Fruit, Herbs and Woodwork

This beautiful eagle is now mine,
A gift from the man who made it
Colin and Yola Endres have lived in the village all of their lives
And are due to move very soon to Manchester to be near their daughter.
Both are in frail health , so I went around to their house to pick flowers from their garden in order to enter the show for a last time. Colin gave me this sculpture as a gift and I entered it into the show under his name
Of course it won a prize!

The Committee & Judging

Auntie Gladys ( centre) always serves the judges tea and scones before they start work. Here she is discussing " scone " strategy with fellow committee members Irene and Ann.
The show treasurer " Sailor " John is looking a little bemused on the left

Trained cook and committee member Julie is our domestic class judge...she had the biggest job of the day as our domestic classes have rocketed . We had over 65 cakes entered this year and thats not counting biscuits, flans, tarts and jams

 Sorting out the certificates

The veg judge Mr Butler is a nationally renown judge who worksmost of the summer judging much larger shows all over the UK... He always makes a point of coming to our show as a priority.
Terry always seems to escort the cookery judge
And always tries out the tasting of everything

Yesterday

The 43rd Annual Show was deemed a sucess by a neatly dressed Auntie Glad just before we opened. She couldn't see the lavender bunting but we brought some down for her to hold and she got the commitee gently smiling by saying over and over again " how marvellous how marvellous"
It's been our biggest show to date.
556 entries this year ,including 54 international photos.....

And the flowers kept comming.......Chris opened the Show with a wonderfully animated speech on Friendship and tradition....( i'll post a photo of this later as Cameron took some when I was having a sneaking drink in the kitchen) and he praised Auntie Glad who recieved a huge round of applause....
So I have pisted a few photos below in different sections...
Thank you to tbe committee....Sailor John, Irene, Terry & Ann, Derek & Heulwen, Boffin Cameron, Carol, Julie, Meirion & Daphne for all of their hard work
And thank you to all that supported the day

6.40 am
On the way to the station
John: " You'll have to get your own teathis evening"
The Prof" I hate The Flower Show"

What the fuck ARE you doing with my avocado?

Tomorrow morning  I will officially collate the entries to the Flower Show in the village Hall. Given the poor summer we have had and the total lack of good vegetables I know the gardening classes will have a poor showing, as they have done in the Prestatyn and Mostyn Flower Shows, but so far the locals have pulled together and have entered just over 360 classes which is not bad at all.
I am now off for a very large Gin and tonic
But will leave you with my novelty vegetable entry!
Bottoms up!
Its amazing what someone can do with an avocado and a cashew nut
