Sunday Lunch

My bladder is playing up.
It will do and has done if I forget to hydrate.
I’ve not slept well but I will be fine tomorrow.
Im embracing home today.
So I’m cooking.
A proper roast dinner.
A British roast dinner is like Jewish penicillin Chicken soup
It does you good.
Of course I will make too much , so I will plate up another portion for Eirlys and will pop it, some mince pies and card a bit later.
Leftovers for tomorrow and Tuesday, fried and mixed together
Bloody lovely

I’ve got a few bits for the village telephone foodbank too, but by the look of things it looks like Sainsbury’s shelves already which is a lovely thing to see.
The real spirit of Christmas in one large red box

I never make a roast dinner for myself, a rare treat…

  1. Have you tried Liquid IV drink mix for extra hydration? You can get it on Amazon. Hope you feel better soon. Bun

  4. Good to see the food bank doing so well. Since the post with the rubber chicken glass ornament, I've been rereading Winnie stories (and sharing them with SG).

    2. I don't have a favorite. Any story of Winnie and a construction worker. But the one that hit me yesterday, that I didn't remember, was Winnie jumping in the water after George and needing to be rescued.

    3. I loved that moment too

  6. I remember reading the Winnie stories, but they bear re-reading. She really was a one-off. A real diva! I hope the roast dinner does the trick and your bladder settles down. The phone box looks like it's well used, and I'm glad the local tow-rags seem to leave it alone! Enjoy your day. xx

Hmmm. Geographically challenged here. I live in the US. Is a roast dinner roast veggies & meatballs? Pat in Pennsylvania

The full telephone box speaks volumes about your community. Well done. As for Winnie, if you are sure you do not want to write a book about your village, at least consider creating one with all of your Winnie stories. Jackie

Delicious meal and well stocked phone box. Good for you and good for all. So mice of you to make a plate for your friend, too.
Hope you feel better soon. Hydrate enough but not too much!
    Home = bliss.

  19. That looks delish! We had beef today too- a rarity. Eldest daughter brought the Grandies round, so I slow cooked the beef overnight then Husband chops finished it off in the oven with a Yorkshire. A two hour snooze completed a rather lovely afternoon.x

    2. Unless you don't eat red meat a simple roast is so easy and delicious. Rub with salt pepper spices, maybe some brown horseradish mustard. 350* /375* for an hour. It makes beautiful brown gravy---look on You Tube. Comes out rare and lovely. What do you use for stews and goulash, crock pot meals? Steak on the grill? If you don't eat beef? [same recipe as above makes a great pork roast or pork tenderloin too, just cook longer.

No roasted potatoes? A roast dinner isn't complete without roasties! Was the meat being added later?

Mini roasties? They're not even brown however big they are. Good roasties are lovely and crispy. have a look on You tube, Jamie Oliver does some good ones, a bt squashed so there is more of the surface to get brown and crispy. You need a hot oven too otherwise the oil will just soak into the potatoes.

  22. Here. much like your red telephone box, we have what are called little free libraries. Usually for book to take and leave, but many now also place food and other items. The two near me are chalk full.

    The din-din looks delicious!!!!

  23. Before I read that it was a telephone box, I thought what I was looking at was some kind of funky minifridge, and that led to another thought: Why in the world does he have books in there?
