Generally I get home just before midnight on Thursday Evenings
It takes me a while to go to bed
So from tonight I will start a regular feature here on
Going Gently
That is...."favorite person Thursday"
Tonight's choice is
A fat lady who is greatly missed
Now that's a friendly face, without which the world probably makes less sense.
ReplyDeleteI always loved her " spirit that won the war" mentality
DeleteI loved both of them and in fact just got their entire series on VHS from Amazon. LOVE them
ReplyDeleteI LOVE both of them. I watch them here in the states from time to time. A pair of classic ladies!
ReplyDeleteShe was just at the early stage of her fame and fabulous partnership with Clarissa - i loved the pair of them together and their irreverence
ReplyDeleteShe was SUCH a gem - and my favourite of the pair as well. By a country mile.
ReplyDeleteI don't know who that is. I feel left out. I feel left out most of the time.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
I'm out in left field with you.
DeleteJennifer Paterson, one of "The Two Fat Ladies", a BBC cooking series that ran from 1996-1999. It's on the Cooking Channel (here in the states) from time to time.
DeleteThank you.
DeleteYes thanks xxxx
DeleteOne of our favorite cooking shows, loved her and she is missed. The old episodes are on occasionally here in the states. Every time we get to see them, it's like they are new again...
ReplyDeleteClarissa was the absolute double of my Grandma..although Grandma's voice was bit more refined!
ReplyDeleteJane x
I know that's not Clarissa.....but I don't know anyone who looks like she did.

Awww it is nice to be reminded of someone who was such a pip. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteSo loved her! Wish she was back on the air.
ReplyDeleteWe enjoyed the two fat ladies here in Canada too!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the show, I'd have let them into my kitchen.
ReplyDeleteWhat a treat! You are a gem John. Clarissa and Jennifer, I just whipped over to youtube and enjoyed a few min. with "the best of". Can't wait until next Thursday.
ReplyDeleteAwe ...
ReplyDeleteYour blog is wonderful. I don't comment but I love to come by and see the dogs! ;)
Welcome Liz...and thank you x
DeleteClarissa's autobiography is worth reading; an extraordinary life!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the recommendation Cro, I'll get myself a copy. I liked Clarissa and Jennifer together, they made a refreshing change.
DeleteHear hear!
ReplyDeleteAm I the only one here who has no idea who this lady is (was)?
ReplyDeleteSee above

Sorry, but praising half of an anti-veggie, pro fox-hunting, scornful-of-animal-feelings pair is something in which I do not wish to participate. But seems like you've got more than enough supporters anyway, J.G.
ReplyDeleteTake heart, Raybeard. Me neither [wish to participate]. Which doesn't stop me from leaving my calling card.
DeleteThose two ladies remind me of those two guys (similar in size though younger, cooking and on motor bikes) whose appeal does by-pass me like Milton Keynes.

Hands off the Hairy Bikers!!
DeleteOh dear..
DeleteWell you can't win EM all.....
I think the world was a much richer place with Jennifer in it,
A former convent gal, matron of a girls school, cook to the Ugandan Legation, writer and party gal, Jennifer was oh such more than a supporter of blood sports ( which to be fair is more Clarissa 's bag!
Not to worry, J.G. Our dissenting opinions won't make the slightest bit of difference to my admiration for you and your blog - as long as you continue to have your 'pack' on hand for your interactions with them to keep us entertained.
DeleteBtw BotB, I'm not a fan of the hairy bikers either, though in their case I don't know anything of their views on non-culinary matters.
When they started out must admit I'd fantasised that they just might have been 'an item'. What a disappointment! Might just have hoped that Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond had been wedded to each other. Oh, silly me!
Not worried RB
DeleteShe was quite an interesting person. I have Jennifer and Clarissa on DVD and never tire of listening to their banter while they're cooking. Doesn't that pheasant look pleasant!
ReplyDeleteThere I was, John, full of hope that I'd be your favourite Thursday person. Maybe I'll make it today.
ReplyDeleteHug (Albert),

Send me you best open mouth smile photo ( with aside glass of red) and I will see what I can do
DeleteJohn is this a wise request? You will be snowed under with photos of your many followers; apart from me, I don't know how to "upload"? a photograph.
DeleteI always liked Clarissa best, Jennifer's roman catholicism stuck in my craw. And yes, C's autobiography makes fascinating reading.
ReplyDeleteLove Two Fat Ladies! Always enjoy watching the old shows. She was pretty true to life.
ReplyDeleteThe two fat ladies riding about in a scooter and side-car? They were always entertaining. I can see how they would help you wind down.
ReplyDeleteThey were fabulous and her red nails digging into a food mixture are much missed. While not on air at the moment, our gay radio station has a programme called Two Fat Lattes.
ReplyDeleteYou have to have the ultimate respect for Jennifer, dying of cancer but sipping Champagne on her death bed. Have all the recipe books and if you ever need to impress, the lemon meringue roulades dead easy but fantastically tasty. In fact, John, could you enter this in the flower show and poke Terry's eye out with it?
ReplyDeleteI so enjoyed The Fat Ladies riding the Motorbike and side-car.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a very fun Thursday to look forward to.
cheers, parsnip
