Cat Fight

I’m understanding the cat rift just a little more
Last night Bun  (well I think it was Bun) - on the chair back, challenged Weaver ( on the floor) to a fight
Roger quickly intervened and separated the sisters quite effectively but I sense the whole thing is about power and belonging ….its a Game of Thrones a feline version
Roger is beside himself with the stress of it all
Mary couldn’t  give a flying f8ck……

At 11pm it was still going on
So I stood up and yelled into the room
Sort yourselves out you fuckers”🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛

The winner will stay …
And I went to bed

Today I’m up and early, counselling clients between 12 and 6 pm . Before that I met Polly for breakfast
She gave me that lovely Lino print

  1. When the pattern appeared that when one was in, the other was out, I wondered if they were having trouble occupying the same space. I don't know enough about cats to know if they will sort it out on their own. I am with Roger, the stress would get to me.

  2. Our two cats rarely fight, but every so often Rosita tries to run at Consuelo for the heck of it!

    1. Nope; Rosita because that was her name when we rescued her.

Do you have Feliway in Wales, it is a pheromone that can be sprayed or plug in outlet. Vets use it in their offices. It has calming effects and is used for kerfuffles with pets. If you can get some, might be worth try to have peace reign again in chez Gray. Jen

  6. I remember reading advice about not taking on two cats at the same time. After your experiences I never will !

    1. I've had two brothers (just lost one, sadly) and they always got on. Now I have two sisters, and they get on well, thank heavens. Don't know what's got into your two, suddenly falling out like this. Cats can be jealous though - my surviving neutered boy Alfie will scratch me if I make a fuss of the other two for too long!

Poor Roger, I hope you took him to bed with you! Blessed are the peacemakers, after all, and they are in short supply lately.

  8. Cats fighting can be quite fierce. I've only seen it happen once.
Is there a solution that the Vet might provide.
Sweet Roger does not like the cat chaos.

  9. But how weird that this has just started happening relatively recently. Didn't they coexist just fine before? (Except for Weaver's misbehavior, which maybe was actually sometimes Bun? I'm so confused.)

    1. They have always been , well like sisters , years ago I had two sisters Bette and Joan ( go figure) and Bette went missing for two months , there was hell to pay when she returned , it’s almost as though they had forgotten each other

  10. Like Steve, I’m so confused. Can’t imagine how you’re working it all out. Anyway, you have a very different approach (of course you do) than we did with our cats. We simply said, “Be nice.” Surprisingly, that was usually all it took.

  11. Hope the pets settle down. Maybe it's the hot weather you've had.

Get a water squirt gun and when that start acting up just shoot them a squirt of water in the face. They won't know what hit them. If it works, you can thank me later. Or, you can talk to the vet and get some tranquilizers for them and they can just zen out. Try some catnip. Cats can resist it. They will be rolling around in the floor like it's the best thing ever. Oh dear! Some say two of the same sex doesn’t work with animals. It does with humans though😂♥️

I've never had two same sex cats and all of ours were "fixed" so I have no frame of reference but applaud Roger's brave efforts to restore peace and your Kingly voice to tell the cats where to get off.
Hope you slept well and had a lovely day with Polly (still love the lino print!) and your clients.

    Hugs!

  17. Cats!! I wonder if the dynamics are different because they are sisters? There’s always some sort of pecking order. How close are you to the water? That’s a lovely view! - Jenn

We had two Siamese sister cats, one for each daughter when they were pre teens. The cats got along fine but the girls did have their spats from time to time. Gigi

  19. I admire your belief that the darned cats will sort themselves out. Hopefully you're right, and hopefully they can manage to coexist sensibly. It might resolve itself quickly when the weather gets cold, do you think?

From my own experience in animal rescue, it is not unusual for siblings to suddenly be unable to tolerate each other as they reach maturity. And I know this is hardly a helpful remark........

Our sibling cats disliked each other and Lydia lived upstairs most of the time, and Phoebe stayed downstairs. It was mainly hissing and the occasional swipe with a paw. In the cattery during holidays, they were best friends and curled up in the same box. They got a bit more friendly after about 15 years and would settle at either end of the sofa. Cats!

I am amazed this has not happened before. With one cat venturing outside to wander through all kinds of foreign smells, the stay-at-home cat could have taken offence at those strange odors ...fear?...anger?...death?...strange animals previously unknown?

Instigater immediately gets crated, sometimes an hours time out works wonders for everyone.
