My boss let me go home early tonight because of storm Goretti which was kind of her.
Instead of near 9 pm, I got home around 6, so I set up a small electric heater on my desk in order to warm the living room as I made and lit the fire.
Bad move
Just as I lit the fire lighters in the grate , I spied Weaver on the desk , she was sniffing loudly and I just had time to bellow
“ No!!!!” Before there was a loud bang, the sudden smell of smoke mixed with cat piss
And all the lights went out!
I’ll fucking strangle that cat

Sorry- I had to laugh. I love reading about your various exploits with both your dogs and cats. Thank you for sharing .x
ReplyDeleteSometimes a funny blog just hits you as it’s happening
DeleteI couldn’t have made this one up ,
Oh, NO! This may be the straw that ends Weaver's time in your household.
ReplyDeleteWhen did the power come back on?
Big hugs!
Luckily I have a trip switch. One push and power is restored
DeleteGood for you!
DeleteHugs!
Bloody Hell!!! That cat is a menace!! She could have electrocuted herself,,, or you!!
ReplyDeleteAt least it would have been quick
Delete“No!!!!” I imagine a bellow like the Wrath of God!
ReplyDeleteAny chance of a subdued and obedient, Weaver in future?
Think Galdalf LOTR
DeleteSo funny to read about though!!
ReplyDeleteIt makes fir a great story
DeleteSorry, funny (but not for you) - I’m imagining Weaver’s fur standing on end! Do you think she might have learned a lesson? Probably not. There’s a real irony that you named the most evil, spiteful feline after a very dignified and gentle lady. Athene
ReplyDeleteShe’s alive ….but remains upstairs
DeleteOh no! When I saw the picture my first thought was the cat knocked it off and started a fire! So maybe losing power was not so bad? How long were you without power? I hope not too long in the cold.
ReplyDeleteNot long, as I have an electrical trip ,but the place smells of pee and smoke
DeleteThat cat will be the death of you, one way or another. Are there such things as cat psychologists (I bet there are). She certainly needs therapy, or it won't be long before you do! Hope all was restored to normality quickly and a large G&T was poured. xx
ReplyDeleteI think she's trying to get a new home. She's likely to succeed if she burns this one down
ReplyDeleteOh dear, not funny I know but I did chuckle. I often wonder what the Weaver of Grass would think of the shenanigans and the feisty attitude of her namesake. Jean in Winnipeg
ReplyDeleteThe old weaver would have laughed I hope
DeleteAfter laughing at your post, sorry as it could have been serious sh*t, that cat sure is a psycho and needs rehoming or as you say there will be consequences, good luck John. Jan in Castle Gresley
ReplyDeleteIt would have been a quick death lol
DeleteOh,
ReplyDeleteI hope everything is back to normal soon.
You need warmth, light and to relax not a delinquent Hilda.
Josie
Nothing will ever be normal with that cat
DeleteI guess this is being just being a jerk.
ReplyDeleteI could do without the drama
DeleteThe heater should have been on the floor and so should Weaver. I remember the smell of burning cat piss but can’t remember what lead up to it. It’s awful isn’t it? Gigi
ReplyDeleteI know I know
DeleteDear oh dear oh dear, Weaver DOES seem to be channeling Satan himself these days. Is it possible for cats to have Antisocial Purrsonality Disorder?
ReplyDeleteShe’s lives a small life with a man she dislikes
DeleteOops!
ReplyDeleteOops nothing
DeleteBloody cat!
ReplyDelete🐈⬛😈🪓😧🍸
DeleteOh no. lol
ReplyDeleteOh bloody hell yes🐈⬛
DeleteJesus squire Jesus 🙀🙀🙀
ReplyDeleteLee
Tee hee
DeleteWeaver: 'Hmmm. Now what would piss John off the most right now?'
ReplyDeleteWhat’s wrong with the girl?
DeleteYou will change the scenery..and that has to have the mark of (dis) approval.....
ReplyDeleteShe lives in a small world
DeleteI think as someone else commented, she might enjoy life on a farm😁
ReplyDeleteAny takers
DeleteDid she pee on the heater, causing it to short out, or did the heater malfunction and cause her to pee in terror? I can see it happening either way ...
ReplyDeleteShe peed on the back of it
DeleteWeaver's very curious and needs to make anything new smell familiar! Hence....
ReplyDeleteThis is probably exactly what happened. Hope the smell of fire, even momentarily, cured her of that.
DeleteWhat a cat! You can rely on Weaver for lots of drama/trouble.
ReplyDeleteHow do you get rid of the smell?
Smoke mixed with cat piss is probably better than a lot of scented candles that some people like to burn.
ReplyDeleteHahaha! or some of those awful insense sticks !
DeleteI too much apologize for laughing!!!! But yet just another comical situation in the circus of the cottage. Love to you all.
ReplyDeletexoxo
What a cat-astrophe!
ReplyDeleteSorry. Couldn't resist.
How many of her lives has she now used-up? I think that counts as TWO.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the laugh, I think a name change is in order. My son who lives on a farm has a cat called Feral it's very appropriately named. My first time of writing to you but I have been following you for quite a while and enjoy your blog. From Shirley in Perth Australia.
ReplyDeleteJust when you thought you had had a kind and lucky break......Weaver happens! That cat had to live with you because no-one else would understand her. What more can I say? Except that when the smell of cat pee and electrical smoke gets in your nose it (psychologically speaking) never really leaves you.....
ReplyDeleteWeaver may be the reincarnation of our black cat from long ago. His name was Lucifer and was trouble from the get- go. We lived on 24 acres so he had plenty of room for his mischief. We all have our favorite Lucifer stories.
ReplyDeleteweavinfool
You say Weaver dislikes you and she obviously isn't happy. The kindest thing to do would be to rehome her, you're not failing her by doing that but giving her the chance of a happy life .
ReplyDeleteMy now elderly cat came to me as a 2 year old from a home where he didn't get on with his owner, frequently peed in the house and showed no affection. He was described as a nightmare. He took a few days to settle in here but turned out to be the most loving cat I've had, he's spotlessly clean in the house and is as happy as Larry. Over the years I've noticed he prefers women to men so that could be why he wasn't happy with his previous owner.
He came to me by way of the vet, he'd been taken in to be euthanised and the vet wasn't prepared to put down a healthy animal, knowing my previous cat had died the vet asked if I'd give him a chance. I've not once regretted it.
You could ask your vet? Or is there a cat rescue society near you or there's the RSPCA.
By the way Weaver will be hiding upstairs - you bellowed at her!
Rehome her and you'll both be happier.
She’s happy when she’s with her sister
DeleteThey have been litter mates and constants in each of their lives for 18months now why seperate them
Agreed. Separating the twin sisters is likely to cause both psychological trauma as they are bonded.
DeleteWere they dog tested by the rescue before adoption?
Some cats don't get on well with dogs.
Ruling that out, cats ability to sense changes in human health through smell and behavior is well-documented. This instinctive response can lead to increased affection and support for their owners when they are unwell, or feel insecure and become aggressive. Especially, if they've been abandoned before.
If Weaver doesn't settle down, you may have to rehome the twin sisters together. Can any of you family adopt them? That way you still get to see them.
She sounds like my last cat who would employ similar tactics if she was in a grump. Her nickname was psychocat.
ReplyDeleteThat is so funny 😂
ReplyDeleteIf anyone can bring out the love in this cat, it is you.
ReplyDeleteWow, I don't mean to laugh at your misfortune but it is funny.
ReplyDeleteMy last lil Tom peed in my toaster! Luckily the toaster was not on at the time. He hated my grown son and took it out on the whole house. He also pooped in front of Grown Son’s bedroom early every morning …. Some cats! 🐈 May Weaver have an epiphany soon or Get Some Jesus in Her as we say here!
ReplyDeleteCats, in a way, are like children. Each as different as can be, no matter their upbringing. My cat is simply what I would call insane but I love her and I know in her own way, she loves me too. She is a constant companion. And what's a little blood here and there? Weaver is still young. She may settle down yet.

ReplyDeleteWe had a cat like that - shorted out our new large screen tv. Researching all his behaviors I learned that cats can be super sensitive and react this way when they feel stressed or unsafe. There is a plug-in or spray that is available, odorless to us but it mimics cats' feel-good pheromones that can help them to feel calm.
Good suggestion. Feliway diffusers can be really effective.
DeleteThis reminds me of my Nan who used to leave the back door open and was occasionaly visited by a local stray - this wasnt evident until the portable heater was switched on. Where upon everybody would shout Phew!!! burning cat pee! as he had marked his territory ha ha
ReplyDeleteJohn do you have a litterbox? Do you have them where you live? Or does everyone just expect their cat to use the cat flap and go outside... That said... i once brought a kitten home from work... i already had an older cat that used the litter box religiously but this new cat would sometimes use the litterbox then out of the blue pee elsewhere... i tolerated it because i adored it... until one day i left the clothes dryer door open and it peed on the clothes in there... last straw.. I also had another cat who used the litter box but must not have liked the used video game console we brought home and peed on it! I think it must have smelled like another cat or somehthing .. Poor Weavers name sake... its a wonder she didn't get electrocuted! and she's certainlyi in the dog house... Hugs ! deb
ReplyDeleteYes,they have a clean box and they use it…..
DeleteThank God for circuit breakers.............. One does wonder if there will be any learning from this one.
ReplyDeleteThere's a programme on UK TV called My Cat From Hell. I caught part of one episode where the cat was poo-ing and wee-ing everywhere. Might be trying to get it on Catch Up to find out what they advised - and if it worked. Fingers crossed.
ReplyDeleteHa ha ! There used to be a book out years ago “101 uses for a dead cat “ it just suddenly came in to my mind !! Xx Bernie
ReplyDeleteIt is almost unimaginable to me to suggest rehoming Weaver--and perhaps her mean ways are a bit of hyperbole by you?---but in her case I am thinking she'd like to be a barncat or free cat. Maybe a farm or stable near you would take her? You've rescued so many unwanted creatures, now let someone help you?
ReplyDeleteShe’s happy enough with her sister , it’s the way it will be
DeleteWhat heating is in place for the pets when you are at work ; or are they left to freeze ? Weaver will not change, Mo.
ReplyDelete“ left to freeze” loaded comment eh?
Delete. I have lived with a cat similar to Weaver's disposition...... think I mentioned here before that she ended up finding herself a new home all on her own.... and I was ok with that. She was into everything, caused trouble whenever possible and a contrary cat from the moment I took her home...no amount of TLC ever changed her demeanor. Weaver will be Weaver... it's *you* that will adapt (and it sounds as if you are- you have no choice!)
ReplyDeleteSusan M/ Calif.
Check out Jackson Galaxy aka Cat Daddy. Weaver is likely marking territory. TMc
ReplyDeleteFrom your answers to comments it seems you will disregard any suggestions. In the meantime you have one very unhappy cat. You say she's happy with her sister but she's obviously unhappy with you. Her behaviour is not normal and not healthy for her mental state. Each cat would survive perfectly well without the other as cats do when a partner cat dies. Have some empathy for your cat's situation, she shows you daily that she barely tolerates you, instead you are blithly ignoring all advice in order to be able to continue writing an entertaining blog post.
ReplyDeleteYou say you have a cat litter tray so you obviously didn't take any notice of the several readers who suggested they have a tray each. Why is that? A refusal to admit someone might be able to help? A laziness to do something about it?
Yawn
DeletePurrfect response, dear John.
Deletececi
Some of the replies here have me scratching my head. It's a cat fgs. She had no idea the heater would smoke and short out. But some are saying she is evil. She is unhappy with something and trying to express that.
