9 am and I counted just three entries total for the flower show.
Mrs Trellis called from the kitchen wall at 10 am with her entry, neatly written in her usual penmanship
Two pound coins selotaped to her envelope an entry fee
She gave me a snickers bar wrapped in brown paper and string
In drips and drabs villagers popped round
Envelopes in hand
Old cups appeared today too, polished and ready
Chic Eleanor has entered her recent pottery efforts with the cry “ Darling how absolutely exciting ! It’s my first public entry ever!”
I stopped neighbour Ira with the request of a vase of flowers
She agreed, I’m always touched that people allow me to gently bully their entries
A novelty vegetable entry came in from Spain ( above) a lovely thought from Hannah who was one of our original flower show committee members
My old committee 2013
Hannah is far right
Auntie Glad in green
I’ve felt a great deal of love today
Gentle people joining in to an event that still means a great deal to a great number of people
I went to my sister Ann’s house for supper, and more entries came in there and were waiting for me when I got home …..
3 entries this morning

DeleteI think you have taken the mantle from Auntie Glad. Didn't she rally the troops with gentle bullying, too? I'm praying for sunshine for you now. I hope your eye is feeling a little less sore. You could always rustle up a new category for the show - decorative eye patches! (Sorry, couldn't help myself.π) xx
ReplyDeleteShe walked around the village and its environs at 87 and collected more raffle tickets than anyone else
DeleteI miss her so
I am buoyed in spirit, knowing that in the midst of all your *challenges*........ that joy is found amongst friends and neighbors...pure joy in holding each other up and being supportive! It does take a village..... sending you a smile and a hug.....(a sincere one)

What a fantastic day of prepping for the flower show. It is so sweet how the villagers came through with their entries, especially Mrs. Trellis with her Snickers bar and Chic Eleanor with her exciting pottery. Getting 129 entries by 8 PM after starting with just three is a huge success.
ReplyDelete129 entries as of today and more to come.
ReplyDeleteThe community is fantastic, and the people are extraordinary.
You are in great company. Enjoy.
Your town and people are good souls.
ReplyDeleteDid Chic Eleanor move back to your village?
ReplyDeleteLove the cartoony turtle vegetables.
ReplyDeleteOMG! Has King Charles weighed in yet?
ReplyDeleteThe entries built up so well over the day! You put a lot of effort into the flower show and I hope everyone has a wonderful time.
ReplyDeleteLike a snowball gathering size and speed!
ReplyDeleteGood to see it all coming together.
3 to 129 is amazing.
ReplyDeleteI hope your poor eye is getting better.
What a wonderful flurry of entries by the end of the day and there is today and tomorrow for lots more to flood in. I hope it's a really good day, I'm only sorry that I can't take part with my vegetables, scones and jam any more.
ReplyDeleteI love the kiwi fruit turtles with their happy little faces.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely community you live in, that, even when they move away, they still 'belong.'
Those turtles are so cute. It looks like the village is going to turn out as they always have. I am glad they are giving you the love and support you need at this time. Giving back that is. Will look forward to photos of the show, maybe even a video? Gigi
ReplyDeletePeople are so clever! Can't wait to see some pics from the show. I love your community.
