Flower Show Prep

9 am and I counted just three entries total for the flower show.
Mrs Trellis called from the kitchen wall at 10 am with her entry, neatly written in her usual penmanship
Two pound coins selotaped to her envelope an entry fee
She gave me a snickers bar wrapped in brown paper and string

In drips and drabs villagers popped round
Envelopes in hand
Old cups appeared today too, polished and ready
Chic Eleanor has entered her recent pottery efforts with the cry “ Darling how absolutely exciting ! It’s my first public entry ever!”

I stopped neighbour Ira with the request of a vase of flowers
She agreed, I’m always touched that people allow me to gently bully their entries
A novelty vegetable entry came in from Spain ( above) a lovely thought from Hannah who was one of our original flower show committee members

My old committee 2013
Hannah is far right
Auntie Glad in green

I’ve felt a great deal of love today
Gentle people joining in to an event that still means a great deal to a great number of people
I went to my sister Ann’s house for supper, and more entries came in there and were waiting for me when I got home …..
3 entries this morning

  7. I think you have taken the mantle from Auntie Glad. Didn't she rally the troops with gentle bullying, too? I'm praying for sunshine for you now. I hope your eye is feeling a little less sore. You could always rustle up a new category for the show - decorative eye patches! (Sorry, couldn't help myself.πŸ˜‰) xx

How wonderful that so many in your community join in the resurrected Flower Show!!!! Wonder if a life-size Auntie Glad would be a joyful welcome to the show?
I hope to email you a humble entry a bit later.

  15. What a fantastic day of prepping for the flower show. It is so sweet how the villagers came through with their entries, especially Mrs. Trellis with her Snickers bar and Chic Eleanor with her exciting pottery. Getting 129 entries by 8 PM after starting with just three is a huge success.
