Bees

I’ve been in college today, only two more official weeks to go and that’s it!
I got home around 3.30 and was faced with the oddest thing
30 or so honey bees on the inside of the closed window
All buzzing loudly
I opened the window wide to let them out
How odd

  1. Yes, very strange! Better check that you haven't got a nest forming inside somewhere. Are there any bee keepers in your village?
Two more weeks! Wow, that's come around quickly, although I suppose for you, doing all the hard yards, it's not been that quick. I'm so proud of you for having that dream and working to realise it. You're going to make a great counsellor. xx

Could they have come down your chimney? Is it possible there’s a swarm in there? It’s peak timing for swarms.

  3. I agree with the others and thought of your new wild flower bouquet on the counter as another possibility.

Yup, call the bee keeper! Sounds like a swarm event and your visitors were checking out the chimney as a site. We had a similar event in a tree beside the garage and a bee keeper came and got the swarm and took them to a hive box. It was fascinating to watch!

  6. Wow, that’s a really lucky sign as you embark on a big life change (finishing school, starting a new job = changing hives)!
Bees are industrious makers-of-sweet nourishment-//like you!

I agree a bee keeper may be the safest help around as you don't want a swarm anywhere indoors!

  10. Well, if those mysterious bees aren't a message from the Universe, I don't know what is.

I agree with all the other comments, bee's inside a closed window very odd and probably come down the chimney as suggested; I also liked what Fresca said about industry and change regarding to your counselling. Wow only two weeks, better get that Champagne in (all of us) we can have a mass Toast to John's success! What an achievement!

  13. You have worked hard with your triple schedule (university, work, and counselling practice) - and the end is in sight for one of the big three. I would feel quite giddy if I were in your shoes!

  14. Not long now. You have worked so hard and at times have had to juggle so many different things at once! I admire you and wish the best for you.

I agree with others who are wondering about a possible swarm. A lucky sign, but maybe a good idea to check with a beekeeper.

  15. I have had to let a few out too, but not all together. Was there a Queen with them?

  17. The bees knew where to find sweetness and love.

  18. Yes, we had a swarm of native Asian bees come in via the air conditioner looking for water/ What an awful mess to clean up. They had built a nest in a hole in the wall.

  19. Hard to believe how that time has flown by. My dad used to say the older you get the faster time flies. I wish he was here now, I'd tell him he was right xx

  20. How very odd. Any clues?

  21. How did they get in? Are there any hives near you?

  22. Only two weeks to go, it seems to have gone by so quickly, but then maybe not quite so quickly for you with all the hard work that you have put in. I caught a large wasp in the process of building a nest in my shed, so I quickly purchased a fake wasp nest and I seem to have nipped things in the bud.

  24. Hope there are no more bees in your home. That would make me nervous.
Congrats on finishing college! You sure have been busy! Soon you can celebrate!!

Honey bees like to establish colonies in attics and chimneys, and can be a pain to remove.

  26. Hmmmm...I wonder if you have a nest in your walls somewhere. They can be relocated if so. You can probably call a local beekeeping group for help.

  29. Each morning I open the door to let the cats out and the wasps in!! Mostly wasps but bees, and the other day a big fat bumble bee.
All the world outside, and they head straight for my conservatory and kitchen. They then spend ages bashing against the window to get out!!!"
All the bars in all the world and......."!
I then have to wait until they are low enough to capture them in my bug catcher or a jam jar and card.
Some years ago my husband discovered a wasps' nest the size of a dog in the attic. Last year I found a wasps' nest the size of a football in the shed. I even saw them stripping the wood from my sheds to make it !!! The cheek of it.

  30. I once stepped into the old camper in our back yard and found a swarm of bees inside at the window. I just propped the door open and by end of day they'd decamped, as your visitors did.

  31. What an insightful and creative take on bees! I really enjoyed how you connected their natural behavior to larger themes—both in nature and storytelling. It’s fascinating to think of bees as a “disaster” theme in such an artistic way. Looking forward to more unique perspectives like this!
