At dog walk one yesterday morning the fields looked grey and icy and very cold
Roger who has never seen snow before, looked perplexed as he went on tip toe into the white ice
Is was up to four inches in places and he looked uncomfortable and looked to Mary to teach him what to do.
Every few seconds in he bit mouthfulls of the snow and let the coldness fall at his feet.
He’s a darling
I loved him even more when he sat down at one moment, his eyes wide with shock with his arse in the cold
During college he sat next to me facing the camera
Watching everyone on line as Welsh terriers do
The counsellors on line waved at him and called his name at the end of class
And he smiled as terriers do and sat unmoving like a puppet , enjoying the attention offered.
It’s 6.15 am and the lane is covered again with snow, fingers crossed I can get to work
Go carefully, John. No snow here, but it is bitterly cold. Xx
ReplyDeleteThe storm is on it's way, no sow yet, just a bit of wind.
ReplyDeleteI had a dog who absolutely loved snow. One summer we took a trip to the north (to mountains) and it was a very long drive and fly (with very small aircraft, which few weeks later ended upside down on the lake), so after 2 days of travelling he saw a small patch of snow. He looked at the snow, looked at us and ran to the snow. He spent something like half an hour rolling on the snow, eating it, hiding his head under the snow... Finally he just sat there looking at us with a big grin "Oh the trip really was worth ALL troubles!" Never seen happier dog. Oh I do miss him, he was smartest dog I ever met - way too smart for me. He got cancer and on the day he was to put down, there was small snow storm, first snow of the autunm. I took him outside and he just laid down on the snow, most likely he knew it was the last time ever he'd see snow.
Hope you stay safe.

A beautiful scene! Be some time till our snow...much too mild yet.
ReplyDeleteI love to see animals venturing out into their first snow. Tentative steps, sniffing, shaking paws, tasting, until they realise, it may be cold and wet, but it's OK. By the sound of it, Roger has a growing fan club. Well deserved, he's such a sweetie!
ReplyDeleteDrive safely. Hopefully, by the time you're on your way back home, the snow will have melted.🤞xx
Take care John, safe travels Kath x
ReplyDeleteNo snow in my part of SW Wales, but cold. We've had a lovely pink sky this morning, which maybe doesn't bode well. Take care.
ReplyDeleteWho needs counselling? Just bring along a Welsh terrier for the clients to stroke and then their troubles will melt away.
ReplyDeleteMy dog has quite short legs and when we do get snow it is usually several inches, so to make headway, she leaps up and down. So funny to watch. As she gets older she is not so fond of having wet feet. Hope Bluebell got you to work safely John. Roger seems like a very sweet boy. Gigi
ReplyDeleteRoger is a delight! Think I'm in love 😍
ReplyDeleteThe first time an animal experiences snow is magical isn't it, and it sounds as though Roger's was especially so. You try sitting on the snow with a bare bum and see what your face does!! No, on second thoughts I shouldn't suggest that to you should I. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI think he should try that, talk about an interesting photo.
DeleteHaha ... don't encourage him!!
DeleteHaven't got one.
ReplyDeleteI can just see Roger's face when he saw the snow. A lovely description of it all. I laughed out loud at the bit where he sat down, that must have been a piture. Oh the shock on his face. Lovely innocent Roger.
Jean.
That's picture!
DeleteWe might get a dusting of snow tomorrow. I remember as a kid so looking forward to snowy days. Now that I am old, slippery snow is scary to me.
ReplyDeleteHope you had no trouble on the roads, John.
I love seeing dogs playing in the snow. Your Roger is such a lovely boy.
ReplyDeleteAlison in Wales x
How lovely to have such a sweet companion.
ReplyDelete"he let the coldness fall at his feet"
ReplyDeleteIf Roger was out in 4 inches of snow wouldn't that make it difficult to see his feet?"
I've got a bit of a tum but if I drop something it falls to my feet...it's just a saying... not always literal.
DeleteWhat a charming word picture you've painted! Tell Roger 'good dog!' from me.
ReplyDeleteThe Roger Fan Club thanks you for this message.

Roger's response to your snow was delightfully comical and so normal. Hope he learned a lot from Mary!
ReplyDeletePlease let us know you made it to work safely. Ta.
Hugs!
Surely it snowed last winter? And Roger saw snow? But he probably doesn't remember, every snow will be his first. What a sweetie.
ReplyDeleteI hope you get to work and home afterwards safely.

Love your description of Roger's snow experience! He's such a sweet fella.
ReplyDeleteHope you & Bluebell made it to & from work safely.
Stay safe & warm, John dear.
"I loved him even more..." it surprises a person every time when you don't think you could love them more, they do something that makes it even more apparent why you love them and that there is more to love that you haven't seen.
ReplyDeleteI love this whole story , but this part touched me especially, to tears.
I envy you...snow, dogs and cats! Linda
ReplyDeleteI wish you had taken a picture of Roger with his arse in the snow, too funny!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing Roger's first snow experience. Such a sweet boy. He a little surprised with the cold stuff.
ReplyDeleteYour lovely boy! He 's so funny and dear. I enjoy your reading about your animals so much, but he is my favourite.
ReplyDeleteI think my second comment got deleted somehow.
ReplyDeleteSweet Roger, sitting down in the cold snow on a doggy bum would give him a funny look on his face...I love it when animals are amazed by something new and they explore. Hope you managed to get to work and back. Have the kittens been out in the snow or are they still indoor cats??
Roger must really brighten up everyone's class time. I wonder what he thinks of those faces and voices.
ReplyDeleteI loved snow when I didn’t have to get to work... or anywhere else. I enjoy seeing pets and children when it snows.
ReplyDeleteMy dog is Very envious. Drizzle here in Somerset. Kath x
