Buxton

 I’m off to Buxton today,
The Derbyshire Spa town, is very roughly half way between Wales and Sheffield.
I’m meeting my “spinal” injury mates
Sarah and Nigel, two people who have part of my life for 34 years.
These two have followed me, supported me, liked and loved me for a generation and it was time we met up again to touch base, revisit each other and share ourselves as we used to when Sarah was a matron and Nigel and I were Charge Nurse managers.
I love these guys, I love them so much
They walked beside me for years in Sheffield
Walked beside me, tutored me and guided me
That’s so important
So we are catching up over coffee and lunch and chatter .
In Buxton

It was probably Follies - you left your car door wide open all evening by mistake if I remember correctly.

Have a wonderful day! No better place than Buxton! Part honeymooned there aeons ago, and my father was there in WW2 when the riding school was a hospital for war wounded. So much to see there and enjoy. I am envious!

  8. Have fun! We were talking about keeping touch with former colleagues and friends today - I have been an itinerant contractor for years but in a couple of roles have really bonded with some people and we regularly catch up and support one another. Tiems are tough here with our new right wing government insisting the civil service drop thousands of roles, which has made my city, the capital, really depressed. But we support one another!

Good to see you're still up and about, dear Pat!
Waving at you from Virginia where we had mizzle this morning and sunshine with humidity this afternoon. Our lemonade hydrangeas and watermelon pink Crepe Myrtles are blooming and are lovely.

Hello Pat! It’s about 70F here in Seattle and partly cloudy. The house sparrows are singing away and the neighborhood roses and mimosa trees are in full bloom. So nice to see your comment!

Just last week as I was unloading my groceries from the car, a grey haired man stopped and told me his name.. he had worked in our store when he was a teenager. The funny thing was that I had been thinking of his father who was a very tough immigration officer in those days, just the day before. Jimmy has been back living in the family home now for several years. We had a lovely catch up as I’m sure you will have today. Gigi

The last time I was at Buxton Opera House was in 2021 to see my friend Janie in A Little Night Music, which was wonderful. I've performed there in a couple of very big shows too - Bel Ami

See the comment above. Follies is one of my obsessions and I think one of my better performances. It was the show that brought me out of a long acting retirement.

Friends of the road are nice, but friends of the heart, like Sarah and Nigel, stay with you forever - no matter the distance - and you never, ever run out of things to talk about no matter how long it's been since you last spoke. Hope the weather and traffic made the trip there and home again a pleasure. I know your lunch and coffee together once more was a sheer delight.

    Hugs!

The weather you're having in the UK at the moment, the people you met with and the place you went, Buxton, must have made for a very memorable pleasant day. And that all in all is the best of the very best. Hope it was a blast.

  28. Catching up with those people who remain connected down through many years (and the ups and downs) is so heartwarming, I'm glad you were able to do that. Buxton brought back memories for me - we stayed in Buxton about 10 years ago, and did Little Moreton Hall, Bakewell, and a couple of other lovely places from there as our base. Our previous stay was at a wonderful B&B called B...(?) on the Water, but it had closed meanwhile.
I was so pleased to see Weaver's note - I think of her often, and hope she's comfortable and still enjoying her garden.
