Caught up with Nu on the phone after I got home which was lovely and then settled down to watch the opening ceremony of the Paralympic’s which is much more relaxed than their much criticised counterpart
The Croatian team has just passed and I remember an ex patient Marinko Kapatanovich at the spinal unit who became a dear friend before he was repatriated to Split in his wheelchair from Sheffield in the early 1990s. We wrote to each other for many years before his early death in the 2000s
Marinko
Rural Croatia wasn’t a place for a paraplegic back then.
. The twins are both sat at the bottom of the stairs. Mary is watching them carefully. Another couple of nights and I can see them mixing naturally .
I think I’ve managed their introduction rather well
Roger is asleep on the couch.
What a delight to catch up with Nu as well as having tentative peace among the 4 legged family members. You've done well with integrating the fur babies this quickly!
ReplyDeleteHope tomorrow brings you added joy.
Hugs!
I needed to speak to Nu , she grounds me
DeleteYes, their introduction is going well. Just curiosity all round, no outright antagonism. I've no doubt there will be a few squabbles, as with any family, but harmony will quickly be restored. As my Dad used to say when we kids fought, "Little birds, in their nest, must agree." Won't be long before you have 2 dogs and 2 cats vying to sleep on you. xx
ReplyDeleteWhy did Marinko become tetraplegic John?
ReplyDeleteLee
He fell off a ship in Great Yarmouth Lee
DeleteI remember his admission well as we didn’t have an interpreter and had to call the university for a Croatian student to translate care
They mixed up the word for pillow with the word chicken
I remember his confusion
Stories like this one John , makes me come back for more and more .
DeleteHe was paraplegic Lee , paralysed at the waist
DeleteOh I get it
DeleteLee
You have indeed managed
ReplyDeletethe introductions of Mary,
Roger,Weaver and Beans
very well, it's so nice to enjoy the story of them
beginning to live together
as you post daily updates,
thank you ,-Mary
I’ve chased up weaver again but no news 😞
DeleteHow sad
DeleteLee
Patience dear,-Mary xx
DeleteJohn are you ok? I think you are not quite ok!
DeleteLee
Not quite my friend
DeleteThank you for reaching out for any news on Pat. All we can do is wait I guess. - Jackie
DeleteGranddaughter would like a cat so I am reading how you are doing with your four legged family.
ReplyDeleteWhen I brought a surprisingly larger Romanian home - of which my 3 had never met I was a little apprehensive - I was aware my thatch was on edge - I watched and took action when it deemed necessary - It Was worth it though x
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reminder about the Paralympics, John. I meant to watch them. I'll tune in tonight...
ReplyDeleteIt’s so much better than the “ normal” olympics
DeleteThe photograph of Marinko looks like an album cover. Very atmospheric.
ReplyDeleteYes, a beautiful photograph, and such a handsome young man.
DeleteOh yes, it won't be long before The Twins have the run of the entire downstairs too!
ReplyDeleteThose kittens are mighty cute.
ReplyDeleteWill you be posting about the online novelty veg contest or did you not receive enough entries?
Don't forget to drink your water and take your vitamins.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a comfortable day, in your comfortable space.
ReplyDeleteThose cats are gonna take over, I tell ya'!
ReplyDeleteGood news about the cats, give them a few more days and they'll be in charge!
ReplyDeleteMaybe the sole use of the upstairs for the kittens, and with them meeting the dogs through the stairgate, has been really useful.
ReplyDeleteHow sad to hear it was hard for your friend when he returned to live in Croatia then. You must have so many memories of patients from those times.
The Para opening parade brought tears to my eyes, which was more than the 'main' Games' equivalent did (unless one counts tears of exasperation/boredom). Watching all these beautiful participants yesterday being so joyous, not showing any care - at least for that occasion - about their being limited in everyday movements, accessibility etc certainly puts into perspective any physical 'problems' we full- and able-bodied lucky souls have. Lovely stuff!
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm ever so happy knowing that the kitties are settling in nicely - even if somewhat tentatively, as was only to be expected.
Soon the twins will take over the house.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the animals are getting accustomed to each other!
