Today, all I’ve done is wash and clean
Every painting and bit of artwork has been carefully cleansed of soot and detritus and stored away.
And every piece has been looked at again, as if it was new.
I have a feeling I will pare down the wall and perhaps add open shelves to it
I’ve not decided as yet.
I’ve only seen Mr Poznan today. He popped in a load of old Readers Digests for me, you know the little ones that are a great loo time read
“ You have a whale in the sink” he observed before leaving
You have such a wonderful collection of art and objects! You have lots of energy today!
ReplyDeleteNot really , I had a n this afternoon lol
DeleteNap
DeleteNo hint on the colour you will be using? You are one busy boy, wish I had a tenth of your energy, but I guess keeping busy helps. I did like your picture wall. Gigi
ReplyDeleteI’m letting the art give the splash of colour as will the Burleigh ware pottery,on top of the kitchen tops
DeleteThe walls will be a gentle off white
That's a great line from Mr P! There comes a time when we no longer see our pictures. Just swapping the art work around will give everywhere a fresh look, even if you decide not to cull any of it. xx
ReplyDeleteI agree , see below, I do like moving art and have a beautiful watercolour to bring in from the living room
DeleteOh, to have your energy! Lupus fatigue is constant, sleep is not restful, and it's a bother.. Sorry for the whine.
ReplyDeleteI, too, love your art wall and the glorious variety of pictures there.
I think Mr Poznan has found your book title: "There's a Whale in your Sink" How about it?
Hugs!
You are allowed a moan my friend xx anytime
DeleteWall and shelf space is always such an issue when you love to collect art! Oh, to have endless display capacity!
ReplyDeleteThings do get dusty,
ReplyDeleteWith a fire? Also very sooty
DeleteActually, the whale looks like he's being crowded out of the sink.
ReplyDeleteHe’s a cheap buy, but a cheerful one
DeleteCleaning and decluttering
ReplyDeletecan make one's home(and possessions)
easier to appreciate and enjoy,I'm glad you're doing that.Currently my preference is one great painting per room as a focal point and only a few
useful things on a shelf.I'm fortunate to have places to store a lot and rotate what's going to be used and seen.Wishing you wellness and peace,
xx -Mary
Rotating is the right way of doing stuff, most of the art wall will be going in my bedroom
DeleteHa! That whale clearly had to beg for what little space he got.
ReplyDeleteHis usual place is in the kitchen
DeleteI recently read that gallery walls have become passe---but I have always loved and admired your eclectic collection of personally meaningful art. Open shelves need lots of curating and dusting?
ReplyDeletelizzy
Good point….I’m also a firm advocate of moving artwork around, to see things in a new place, literally in a “ new light”
DeleteThe second photo, what is the painting on the right?
ReplyDeleteKeith
Xx
It’s a gentle watercolour of my tiny first house in Sheffield by my elder sister ann

I love the fact that you can move art around to make it appear "fresh", and a good dust and wash makes all the difference first off. I am beyond excited that I have nearly finished decorating my hallway; the only room in the house I have which doesn't get direct sunlight, I can finally display my fathers water colours that he painted throughout his retirement. I can't wait to hang them and the other pieces of "art" I have collected in anticipation of this day.
ReplyDeleteIt’s a great idea to move paintings I’ve always done it
DeleteThe whale was having a whale of a time in your sink.
ReplyDeleteYuk yuk
DeleteJob well done. Spring cleaning and rearranging gives the house a refresh. New shelving? A nice wall system might be very good. They include: open shelves, drawers and clear or tinted glass door front cabinets. You can add back lights too.
ReplyDeleteFood for thought
DeleteJohn...I've been away for a couple of weeks and am just catching up with your blog. My heart is breaking over the heartbreaking loss of your beautiful, wild and wonderful Dorothy. Tears are falling for the joy and laughter she brought to your life and ours as you shared her playful ways and frustrating foibles with us. Pax, John.
ReplyDeleteShe’s broke my heart k but I knew she would an£ I will get over it
DeleteTangent note..regarding moving art around. I have a Alice Hardwick that has been in the family long before I was born, it's a atypical Hardwick, if I had a decent camera and light I'd send a email of it. I've never found the right light that shows the detail, it's a dark oil on canvas, ponderosa pine forest and needle cluttered forest floor. Not sure what will happen to it when I cut the surly bonds, the kids are vying for it.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of moving things around sometimes so that they have a new and fresh feel.
ReplyDeleteI am a great one for moving thing around John - as you say you get a fresh look at them. I find they usually end up back where they were after a couple of weeks.
ReplyDeleteI agree with moving things around. I collect raku pottery and find that moving the pieces around helps me to appreciate each piece since I seem to start overlooking them otherwise. I plan to change my wall art soon by moving it around. No need to buy new unless it is a piece that "speaks to me" and I have no desire to follow trends.

Spring cleaning gets to us all at some point, well done. Mine was motivated by getting my cataracts removed: the state of my skirting boards was shaming: and yes, I know there should be a joke in there somewhere, but me brain's a bit slow today.
ReplyDeleteSpring cleaning, it's really a thing. As I think about opening windows to let the fresh air in, I am looking around at all of the things covered in winter heating dust (I read that most of it is our skin....ugh) and am anxious to get started. I have to do one room at a time, or I get overwhelmed. I was taught in Home Economics in high school, to start with the ceiling, and work my way down, vacuuming as I go. That advice has never failed me. Now, to just DO it!
ReplyDeleteHaha, brilliant. I'm surprised he didn't comment on the rest of the menagerie. It's nice to know that everything is lovely and clean isn't it, and you can have a whole 'new design the walls day' in the near future.
