It’s been a restful day
I feel whole again after hospice shifts which have proven challenging in ways you never expect .
Because of my experience and gender, I often work with the more challenging patients at work, yet I have the same mental mechanisms and reserves as everyone else, so downtime today has been therapeutic and necessary
My sister plated a lovely dinner for me today followed by a fuck off sherry trifle to die for.
Kay, from work, got her chef husband to plate me up a wonderful dinner too as did a friend from the village who left me a selection of Tupperwared goodies worthy of a Queen’s Ransom, left on the ubiquitous kitchen wall.
I’m watching the Kylie concert from The Albert Hall which is nose to nipple with gay men and I will be going to bed soon ….
The dogs are crammed in close
But I concede that the cottage needs a cat again ….
A friend’s Queen mother has given birth late in the season and will be looking for homes in the new year
Sherry trifle sounds terrific right about now. Albert is gonna be a tough act to follow. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat’s a Sherry trifle ?
DeleteKeith
Xx
A trifle is a cold dessert made from layers of sponge cake, jelly/jello, fruit (in my family usually tinned peaches), custard and with cream on top. To make it sherry trifle you pour sherry on the sponge before you add the other layers. Either way it's bloody delicious! Tina on west oz
DeleteRaspberry jam should be placed inside the sponge
DeleteHow wonderful to have all sorts of yummy foods and that sherry trifle (ta for the explanation, Tina) and have hda a relaxing day which you needed. May tomorrow be more of the same.
ReplyDeleteAh, another cat?! Will it be one of the kittens or an adult in need of a home? Boy or gitl? Some feline will be lucky to live with you and the pack.
Hugs!
Every home needs a cat. I am sure a cat will find you soon.
ReplyDeleteI would suggest you search for a Maine Coon cat ... They are such a fantastic people oriented cat ... beautiful silky coat, talkers that chirp, and would fit right in with the dogs!
ReplyDeleteDo some research or just go with a "regular" cat ... however you go, you can't lose! ❤️πΊπ»π½
What I did with Albert was to let the rescue centres know I wanted a car who knew dogs
DeleteI cannot imagine my home without a cat. I hope one of your friend's Queen Mother's babes is the right one for you.
ReplyDeleteI, too, feel much recovered from Christmas. It's a good feeling.
I will take things slow
DeleteI'm excited about a new cat for your cottage in 2024! Clearly, I am living vicariously through you, lol.
ReplyDeleteYou are very welcome xx
DeleteYou are one lucky guy with all the lovely home cooked meals and desert coming your way. A cat for 2024 sounds perfect.
ReplyDeleteI googled "Fuck Off Sherry Trifle" but I could not find the recipe anywhere. Please ask your sister if she found it in a Gordon Ramsey cookbook.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the laugh YP! It does sound like it should be one of his recipes. x
DeleteYou are well fed by the sounds of it:)
ReplyDeleteHospice work would be so hard. My patients are mostly dying but at a distance. I was thinking about retirement and would still like to learn more about grief and how it affects nurses, and what we can do to mitigate it's effects.
Do I look like I’m not?
DeleteOh a possible new cat!! I shall live vicariously through you! Might I suggest a tabby cat? They are always intelligent and very cool in my opinion. Have a great day! - Jenn
ReplyDeleteA new cat! You should have a naming contest.
ReplyDeleteOooh, exciting! That's got me smiling! Your work is always demanding, but it sounds as if it's all got "a bit much" . Downtime, some delicious surprise food cooked by other people, and some entertainment on the Tele are just what the Doctor ordered. And a kitten to look forward to. Purrfect
ReplyDeleteI miss having a cat. I was brought up with cats, and not having one around seems wrong.
ReplyDeleteWhen you get this cat, as I'm sure you will, I'll look forward to reading of yours and the feline's, as well as the dogs, adventures.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter suggested I took in an old cat that her friends family could no longer care for. Daisy , my cat, is a constant source of companionship as she is the most ‘talkative ‘ cat I have had and a lovely being to share my home with .
ReplyDeleteA cat does change the whole atmosphere in the house.
ReplyDeleteSo much love for you in those home cooked meals. Have you got the energy for a kitten, or would an older cat be less work? I don't know, but I'm sure whatever you decide, it'll be one very lucky feline. xx
ReplyDeleteI miss cats too but we are now firmly an all dog household - the terrier would love a cat....... between 2 slices of bread and butter!
ReplyDeleteAlison in Wales x
Good for your sister and Kay. Done well, yours is a demanding job physically and mentally
ReplyDeleteSo happy to hear about a lucky cat. What a home. Glad you’re recovering and so lived and looked after. I’ve never had a fuck off sherry trifle.
ReplyDeleteLoved loved loved

ReplyDeleteWhen you cook for yourself every day it is such a welcome relief when some kind soul cooks a meal for you. It all sounds good. Goodness, how do you introduce a kitten to an established pack of three dogs? I wait with interest to see how it's done. x
ReplyDeleteThe sherry trifle sounds amazing, and a new kitten in the new year sounds just wonderful, it will bring a whole new energy to the cottage.
ReplyDeleteNew plans eg
DeleteMeals from those who love you are especially delicious as they hit the heart, not just the tummy. I can't wait to read about the antics of the new kitten! He or she will have such a wonderful family with you and the doggos.
ReplyDeleteI was very moved by Kay at work. She is the mother of a young family. Her kindness moved me greatly
DeleteHow lovely to have such lovey neighbours, family and friends John . New Year, new kitten .... perfect. XXXX
ReplyDeleteThere’s no rush, but when the right one comes along
DeleteTwo home cooked meals, treats, AND fuck off sherry trifle, you are one lucky man. My late husband used to make a huge bowl of trifle when we had a crowd for lunch on his boat.. I think he used some kind of liquor in his. All I remember was that it was incredible. A kitten for 2024 sounds like a lot of work with your busy schedule . I feel that every house needs a cat too, but I am too old now and my dog hates cats. Enjoy your day, Gigi
ReplyDeleteYes he would have added Sherry or port but Sherry is tge. Booze of choice
DeleteOur family use Strega and marsala x π§
DeleteMarsala is nice too
DeleteOooh, another cat, perfect!
ReplyDeleteAny cat will be lovely, but I'm a black cat lover, our old girl looked just like Albert, but she was smaller and more ladylike, and she'd have run a mile from a baby rabbit!
A good DSH (domestic short hair) moggy would be wonderful.
Many years ago, my Aunt asked my Mum how we managed to get all our animals to accept each other and 'get along', Mum's reply was "They're family, they don't get given a choice"! X
I will give the animal rescue my number, the cat has to have experience of dogs
DeleteTigs Reg and Millie Cat have asked me to send a message to Uncle John, to say thank you for thinking of adopting another of our brethren and we hope it might be another black one as they are the most over looked at the rescues. Mate you've not lived till you have had the remains of a barfed up dead mouse left in your slipper. You know you have missed all that! Much love Tess and the Pussy Posse x
ReplyDeleteA black cat it is xx
DeletePleased to hear it will be a black cat. As Tess said black cats are most overlooked. We are a black cat family.
DeleteSherry trifle! Food of the gods. Take care x
ReplyDeleteHeavy with Sherry so that the sponge is almost fluid …bloody lovely
DeleteDrooling!
DeleteHow nice that your sister and friends spoil you with yummy food! I'm glad you have time to rest and relax, John. xx
ReplyDeleteThe food was delightful and the trifle the best ever
DeleteA cat!. Yea! I can't wait for the stories.
ReplyDeleteWhat the relation between a Queen Mother and a cat ??? I am completely lost ! For me and Wikipedia a Queen Mother is « the widow of a king who is the mother of the current king or queen.« My level of English is too low for subtilities.Who can explain please? Catherine from France. .
ReplyDeleteA “ queen” is the name of a cat , the mother of kittens xx
