Dorothy was indignant at Mary’s entrance and sniffed around her with the expression
“ Where the fuck have YOU been!!!”
We shared a bowl of pigs in blankets and watched old reruns of The Great British Bake off when Mary Berry had longer hair and Hollywood looked like a car salesman .
Today! After a glorious lie in, I drove down to my sister’s but missed my nephew and family by minutes. I bought them theatre tickets to a Liverpool theatrical comedy “all the family would enjoy” ( which means I’d hate it)
My sisters did me proud with some lovely gifts , which I opened when I got home. ( a treat as I get bizarrely embarrassed when opening gifts in public)
The gifts included vouchers for the Storyhouse and a dvd of Giselle which tickled me pink!!!
Lovely
So I’m back home and it’s Boxing Day
And I’m fine xxxx
That sounds lovely John. I've got a plateful of homemade chips, cold turkey and curry sauce........to be followed by huge mug of Earl Grey and mince pies, slightly bizarre combo that we Brits seem good at !
ReplyDeleteAlison in Wales x
Sounds glorious to me
DeleteMy sister plated me up some meat and veg and roasts , which I had sat at the table which was lovely. Proper trifle to follow
Bloody lovely
Happy Boxing Day. Some very thoughtful gifts there.
ReplyDeleteI’m very lucky xx
DeleteI don't like opening presents at all. I never tell the family member I loathe their present but I will just say the charity shops have received some very interesting jumpers my mother bought me over the past decades!
ReplyDeleteI’m always lucky, my family nowadays usually gauge their gifts very well
DeleteI hope you have a bit of time off now to enjoy the holiday season.
ReplyDeleteA few days off before my next night duty
DeleteEnjoy your day with the canine girls and do whatever or not as the day progresses. Jan in Castle Gresley
ReplyDeleteI did not
Deleteisn't it wonderful when things just work out well... Enjoy.
ReplyDeleteSimple and mostly on my,own
DeleteSounds like a lovely day, relax and enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI’m recharged, the hospice work just recently has been challenging
DeleteAgree about pressies, Thank you always sounds a bit forced when they are watching for your reaction.
ReplyDeleteI love opening gifts alone, I stalk myself through it
DeleteI had a lovely time and even had my faraway Texas grandkids and son on Google Meet so we could open the gifts with the children. 2 grandkids at my home and the 3 in Texas all laughing and being silly together!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the holiday but am always glad when it is over! :)
Happy Christmas Ellen x
DeleteI cannot stand opening gifts in public. Yet another thing about Christmas that triggers my worst emotions.
ReplyDeleteMy mother especially needed adulation for every gift , I understand where my difficulty comes from dear ms noon xx
DeleteYour family clearly know your tastes. Enjoy the evening mooching with the furries. xx
ReplyDeleteWe know each other every well
DeleteThe best thing about Christmas is that it passes. A day of disappointment usually, for me anyway. I took the dogs for a walk yesterday and had lunch with Miss Katie.
ReplyDeleteI hope it had its moments
DeleteSorry you missed the family by minutes, but the bright side was you could open your gifts at home. Sweet, and oh, that DVD of Giselle!!
ReplyDeleteHope you're home for the day so you can do as you choose, nap, walk, visit or stay in. Enjoy!
Hugs!
I was so happy with my gifts , I don’t know what I’d ever do without my sisters
DeleteThey always spoil me
And I’m so grateful for that
What a haul! And I see that the dogs were not forgotten! I also get embarrassed opening gifts in front of others. I've never really given it much thought until you brought it up and Ms. Moon seconded it. I always feel as if my response is disappointing, I guess.
ReplyDeleteDebby it will come from childhood when some adult in your family demanded thanking ( whether it be subtle or overt)
DeleteI laughed at your “all the family would enjoy” comment. That's usually my immediate reaction, too. Sometimes I’m wrong I imagine.
ReplyDeleteI know xx
DeleteAh yes, two my my pet phobias: opening presents in public, and "family viewing" unless it is Dr Who. So much we in the Going Gently family share!
ReplyDeleteSee above deArheart x
DeleteYeah, I'm not a fan of "whole family" shows either! Sounds like you had a great holiday. :)
ReplyDeleteI feel better tonight, more rested and whole
DeleteOur turkey lunch from the pub was surprisingly good, we all enjoyed it, couldn’t even finish it all. I was having some lunch just now and my fixed bridge came out! I think the anchoring tooth fell apart. Looks like I will have a massive dental bill very soon. I also hate opening presents with the giver watching. Don’t have to worry about that anymore as we don’t do gifts. Enjoy your down time john, gigi

DeleteAdorable hare & robin pillow! Hope the remainder of Boxing Day is relaxing and peaceful. Stay safe & well, John dear.
ReplyDeleteI had a sleep on the couch, then watched the great escape
DeleteI too do not like the tradition of opening gifts in front of others. First, I don't like to be the centre of attention. Second, I have to fake excitement or pleasure I rarely feel when gifted with anything. Although last week when my sister Karen gave me a beautifully wrapped tin of something frozen, I almost shrieked with delight when she told me what was in it (it didn't need to be opened just then): baklava. OH MY GOD her homemade baklava is better than the dessert I had last time I had it at the local Greek restaurant.
ReplyDeleteYes , surprising as it may sound , i too don’t like the attention that present opening has
DeleteSo glad you got a day to recoop and catch up, too. I already have a card earmarked for you for next year to help cover your room. Now all I need to do is not lose it! BTW, you weren’t forgotten but I haven’t got to send cards this year. They will become New Year greetings. Have a wonderful one.
ReplyDeleteCheers Lou, it’s a small wish, but a slightly obsessional one
DeleteOddly I don't recall anyone but myself every having admitted to being embarrassed while
ReplyDeleteopening gifts in public .
When I married my son's father I was only 17..
As I stood unwrapping one cookbook after another I really wished I had taken all the gifts home and opened them while I was alone .To make matters worse my brother was the photographer, and captured each pouting expression I made as I realized that everyone there knew I hadn't yet learned how to cook ..
Mary
We’ve started a “ thing”
DeleteHere in the States we still haven't a clue what one does on Boxing Day.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a child in the 60's and 70's I rarely got much for Christmas that I wanted... it was generally a new polo neck jumper and skirt or a pair of pj's and slippers with a cheap doll thrown in... I was happy if I got a reading book and for this reason I hate opening presents in front of anyone because I had to show such appreciation as a child for my "thoughtful" gifts. Who gives a 6 - 8 year old just clothes and expects gratitude. Not being well off I guess it was easier to give a new outfit and at least we would have something "decent" to put on should we have to go anywhere.

The reason I don't much like Christmas.
