I booked it completely out of the blue. Only the flights , not the accommodation as yet….I’m thinking of Airbnb this time though I would love to stay at the Waldorf again
That’s wonderful We lived in NYC for several years after we left University- Tony had a “ proper job”, and I was a greeter at a financial company . Best job I ever had - and with the best tips ! We would have stayed ( Tonys company were happy to support his Green card application), but then we realised I was pregnant ( welcome but unplanned ), and the first scans suggested all was not well and our medical insurance wasn’t adequate . So we both flew home to the UK . And five months later our very healthy son was born ( our UK medics could never understand what the US doctors were worried about ). And he thought of flying anywhere with a new baby was overwhelming. And irony of ironies , we could easy find a place to rent because of being away for several years , so no checkable work history , BUT qualified for a mortgage . Crazy
I miss NYC and we have gone back for a visit most years . How wonderful for you to be visiting again
We were planning on going Christmas Shopping in NYC again this year, as we have three times before. Unfortunately, husband is awaiting knee replacement surgery, and even though we're paying for him to have it done privately, rather than him being in dreadful pain for another 8-12 months, it still prevents us doing NY this year! Still, there's always next year, when our Grandson will be 8, so we may even be able to take him with us! X
Good morning from Manhattan, where it is currently a chilly 38 degrees! It’s supposed to be lovely, though, for the Marathon on Sunday. I’m thrilled to hear you’re coming back. There is so much new theater coming in over the next few months, it’ll just be hard to decide what to see. Always a nice dilemma! Have a wonderful weekend. Ginger
I don't think I have been to NY since the 1964 World's Fair! I still have the old scrapbook I pasted together from that trip. Glad you are booking more trips to look forward to, John. You enjoy traveling so much.
Like Ellen, I haven't been to NYC sine the '64 World''s Fair. The happy anticipation of your spring trip will be fodder for happy dreams from now until then!
Perhaps you'll go with "Patrick"? Or peprhaps before your next meeting he'll arrange to meet you on a car park and tell you he's not seeing you again as you're not over your husband, he'll make you cry and ....... well you know how it goes as you did that to the previous prospective beau.
I've deleted my comment, JayGee, as it was written impetuously. Should have given more thought to such a 'big' suggestion even if it turns out to be most unlikely to happen.
Good for you planning another trip to NYC! I have never been there and once declined an offer to meet a friend there. One of my regrets. I feel a bit guilty that I have been to London and not NYC since I live in the U.S. I have never been spontaneous so have missed out on a great deal. Jackie
John, try looking for NY Theater Guide .com, Their website lists plays, theater, musicals, etc, for whatever dates or month. you plan to be in New York City, enjoy,Mary
I will Mary. The idea of this visit is to do all the things I’ve not yet done.theatre, galleries, museums, exhibitions , coupled with a few old favourites
It's been around 10 years since I was in NYC, still my favorite big city. Many of the places I loved are gone, Lalo's on the upper west side, the old Carnegie deli, the Mayflower hotel. It's been axiomatic that change is a constant in The City. I'm sure there are many new places, just a wonderful as the ones gone. Like life, eh?
I'll never forget my first time there - crossing Brooklyn Bridge in a coach. As we approached the bridge the driver said "close your eyes and open them when the music starts. As NY came into view he switched on Frank Sinatra singing 'New York, New York'
New York! New York!! Something to really look forward to -especially after a particularly gruelling shift at work. You deserve that.
