I’m on the way to Bangor which is a Godforsaken place.
I’m attending a study day of six hours but add the travelling and the time spent will be over 8 .
It’s a pretty drive all told.
And One I can treat myself to a MacDonald’s coffee with.
It’s a last blog today all told but what is your treat of the day?
When things are a bit tough, when life is just that bit too real

What do you treat yourself to?

I’d be interested to know

  1. Is the Penguin café still there on the high street?

A really good coffee in a decent café and a walk...how is the pier in Bangor doing?

Unlimited kit-kats (usually limit myself to 1 two-finger one a day) and a good strong 'proper.' coffee(usually Taylors Lazy Sunday)Lavazza for Amazonia bio=organic on special occasions.

  8. (Can never resist saying this whenever the 'B' place-name comes up).
So you're taking a 'Day Trip to Bangor'? Fiddlers' Dram had a 'loverly' time there in the pleasant yet maddening ear-worm of their 1979 #3 hit - video of which I wanted to post here but couldn't achieve (still available on YouTube).

My 'treats' for today? One visit to Waitrose, another to Morrisons, both principally for cat-food. Heigh-ho!

      Yes.

    4. Well well! For more than four decades I've assumed it was about the Welsh Bangor, though being aware (of course) that there was another one in Ulster. 'Research' on my part has been inconclusive. The song mentions a Ferris Wheel, and there does seem to be one in each of the resorts. However, I read that the song was actually about a trip to Rhyl, but that was changed to Bangor in the lyrics because of the latter having an extra syllable which scanned better. So.....I don't know - not that it matters much. Once heard it's still hard to get the ditty out of the brain.

Debbie Cook, who wrote it says it was always about Bangor, Wales, not NI. She's a friend of a family member.
Memories of Bangor, and staying in the halls of residence as my first solo holiday. Had relatives not far away. None left there now.

Treat? Lunch out somewhere, anywhere, anything, as long as I don't have to prepare it.

Northern Chinese food that I pick up from the restaurant near me. For lunch, my treat once every three weeks or so. As today is the fourth anniversary of my sweet hubby’s death, I think today just might be the day. I make all my meals at home so that is my treat. Gigi

Oh, some one just mentioned Irish coffee, and since I have a bit of Bushmills in the cupboard I think I will make one for after my Chinese food. I don’t drink booze anymore as I am afraid of getting wobbly and falling but I will stay in my chair and maybe also have an afternoon and a think also. Gigi

  33. Some great ideas here, noted! Right now, my whole life's a treat, pleasing myself, living alone, cooking only what I like! It's great, after many years of total care giving, done gladly, for a husband who is now gone, peacefully, he was ready. He had home hospice at the end, wonderful nurses and aides helping me, never forgotten. I have such respect for people who do that work.

  36. I have absolutely no self control when it comes to ice cream in the house, so I don't buy it. However, I will drive through Burger King and get one of their soft-serve cones when I am out. For $1 an inexperienced worker will fill the cone twice as high as probably recommended by corporate, so I end up with a hugh tower of ice cream far bigger than what I paid for.

Bangor, Maine, is our going on vacation airport and just for a second I thought you were headed there and was ready to tell you about the best second hand bookstore in the world, in Bangor, and also an excellent sandwitch/coffee place near by. Upon reading further I see my error. But if you are ever going to Bangor, Maine, do let me know.

My treat as a working teenager was to nip across to M & S and buy a prawn cocktail sandwich for my lunch. Absolutely delicious! Now living on the other side of the world my absolute favourite treat would be a crayfish but as that is way way beyond my budget now I go grab some Biltong from the local South African shop. Also absolutely delicious!
