The Choir Concert

I needed the Choir concert tonight
It was the perfect and what’s more importantly local, home grown quality concert that reminded me that not everything nice can be found over the border.

peformed a set of three quarter Welsh Songs supported by a quartet of teenage singers from Ruthin School who were an absolute revelation and delight
It’s was a lovely night
Made better by the above impromptu moment in the interval when half the choir sang happy birthday to 8 year old villager Sophia who is the delightfully polite daughter of Polish Monika, the hall’s caretaker.
Lots of the village turned out, Village Elders Ian and Helen , The velvet voiced Linda, Bridget and Andrew, Mrs Trellis ( looking lovely in pearls) Pippa, TCA Dave and Jean ,Mr Poznan in a bow tie, Gill and Gentleman farmer Peter from my Choir, et al

Ps they sang Gwahoddiad perfectly
Just like this

  2. Was Mrs Trellis ONLY wearing pearls? What a memorable experience for little Sophia! Some things are worth more than money.

  3. What wonderful voices. Is there anything more moving than a Welsh male voice choir?

In the olden days of record albums, when I was in college, the college bookstore would periodically bring in masses of albums on sale for very cheap prices. I would close my eyes and point and get an album completely at random. One time it was an album of a Welsh male chorus and I loved it. I still love Welsh choral music and wish I could have been at that concert. Have you listened to Bryn Terfel's album of Welsh songs? Sooo beautiful.

  6. I love this. I am enthralled by the Welsh Male Choir; I've never known a Welshman that couldn't sing..... and I've known a few over the years.

Words are inadequate as the soaring voices and harmony were beautiful and so sweetly personal as they sang to 8 year old Sophia, Your community is rich in glorious music,, songs from willing voices, and caring. What a blessing.

    Hugs!

That sentence surprised me because sometimes I get the impression reading this blog that everything nice can only be found WITHIN that border. But I get your point. The Trelawnyd Male Voice Choir is a very class act.

Very well said, Kirk! Have to agree. Am in Flintshire once a year for my literary weekend at the Gladstone Library, and it is beautiful. Even though the Welsh bit of my heart lies in Sir Benfro, (Pembrokeshire,) specifically on Strumble Head

  13. Dear John, you recently wondered just what people get from Going Gently. This post encapsulates so much - your need, your community, glorious voices, making memories - and then sharing it with sound as well as words as you so often do makes it extra special. Thank you.

Seen through your eyes and writing. It is a very special place. You always write so lovingly about your hometown and the people in it. Bravo to the choir.
