I needed the Choir concert tonight
It was the perfect and what’s more importantly local, home grown quality concert that reminded me that not everything nice can be found over the border.
The Trelawnyd Male Voice Choir (https://trelawnydmalevoicechoir.com/index.php?id=4)
peformed a set of three quarter Welsh Songs supported by a quartet of teenage singers from Ruthin School who were an absolute revelation and delight
It’s was a lovely night
Made better by the above impromptu moment in the interval when half the choir sang happy birthday to 8 year old villager Sophia who is the delightfully polite daughter of Polish Monika, the hall’s caretaker.
Lots of the village turned out, Village Elders Ian and Helen , The velvet voiced Linda, Bridget and Andrew, Mrs Trellis ( looking lovely in pearls) Pippa, TCA Dave and Jean ,Mr Poznan in a bow tie, Gill and Gentleman farmer Peter from my Choir, et al
Just like this
A heartwarming example of all that's best about a small community.
ReplyDeleteI agree susan
DeletePhotographic evidence John lives in an interesting and lovely community ( ps I have something in my eye)
Keith
Xx
Trelawnyd is no different than most small communities in the uk and afar
DeleteI just crow about it more I guess
Was Mrs Trellis ONLY wearing pearls? What a memorable experience for little Sophia! Some things are worth more than money.
ReplyDeleteSteady! She looked very smart
DeleteWhat wonderful voices. Is there anything more moving than a Welsh male voice choir?
ReplyDeleteThe power of them was phenomenal we were sat right in front
DeleteIn the olden days of record albums, when I was in college, the college bookstore would periodically bring in masses of albums on sale for very cheap prices. I would close my eyes and point and get an album completely at random. One time it was an album of a Welsh male chorus and I loved it. I still love Welsh choral music and wish I could have been at that concert. Have you listened to Bryn Terfel's album of Welsh songs? Sooo beautiful.

DeleteWonderful!

DeleteThe Welsh male chorus is simply wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI love this. I am enthralled by the Welsh Male Choir; I've never known a Welshman that couldn't sing..... and I've known a few over the years.
ReplyDeleteJo in Auckland
Sophia must have been thrilled to bits!
ReplyDeleteShe was asked to give the bouquets out at the end too
DeleteWords are inadequate as the soaring voices and harmony were beautiful and so sweetly personal as they sang to 8 year old Sophia, Your community is rich in glorious music,, songs from willing voices, and caring. What a blessing.
ReplyDeleteHugs!
It was one of those moments that just caught you
DeleteJust lovely
ReplyDeleteHow can something so simple as people getting together and singing, produce prickles down my spine? Just wonderful, and how special for Sophia! xx
ReplyDeleteI’ve always supported the medicinal aspect of singing
Delete"...reminded me that not everything nice can be found over the border."
ReplyDeleteThat sentence surprised me because sometimes I get the impression reading this blog that everything nice can only be found WITHIN that border. But I get your point. The Trelawnyd Male Voice Choir is a very class act.
Very well said, Kirk! Have to agree. Am in Flintshire once a year for my literary weekend at the Gladstone Library, and it is beautiful. Even though the Welsh bit of my heart lies in Sir Benfro, (Pembrokeshire,) specifically on Strumble Head
DeleteThe library is in the pretty estate village of Hawarden where all of the serious village documents are kept in archive
DeleteWonderful choir and I love the hymn too. So uplifting.
ReplyDeleteThe hymn was a doosie a real almost ancient experience
DeleteDear John, you recently wondered just what people get from Going Gently. This post encapsulates so much - your need, your community, glorious voices, making memories - and then sharing it with sound as well as words as you so often do makes it extra special. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteVery welcome Ruth xx thank u
DeleteYour opening video - nice to hear this sung as my first music of the day on this of all mornings. :-)
ReplyDeleteGlad u liked it Raymondo
DeleteFew things more uplifting than the human voice singing :)
ReplyDeleteAn exquisite tear jerker John. That happy birthday will live in her memory for ever.
ReplyDeleteShe’s a delightful girl
DeleteGood sized crowd.
ReplyDeleteWe sold 150 tickets I think
DeleteLovely! And also, seeing everyone dressed in their nice clothes!
ReplyDeleteYes, the choir uniform is much sort after and it’s quite an achievement for the men to ear their blazers
DeleteGoosebumps and tears! Gigi
ReplyDeleteYes I found it all incredibly moving
DeleteSeen through your eyes and writing. It is a very special place. You always write so lovingly about your hometown and the people in it. Bravo to the choir.
ReplyDeleteIt’s my home,
DeleteSounds like a wonderful event! The spirit of community is still strong where you are. It's nice to see.
ReplyDeleteYes it is…and we made a lot of money which means the hall will survive another year
DeleteI wish I had something like this .I would go regularly.
