It’s Yorkshire day today
So says Gabby Roslyn on radio 2 this morning.
I was driving home from work and she was banging on about nothing
She didn’t have much of substance to say about God,’s Own Country
I think I know parts of Yorkshire well.
I lived in York between 1986 and 1989
Then Sheffield between 1989 and 2006
I miss the counties very much
York was my equivalent time to a young man’s university days
But I grew up in Sheffield…..
In so many ways
‘In so many ways’….there’s a treasure chest of memories… Libs x

ReplyDeleteI like Yorkshire, it's in my blood - allegedly my Scottish line resulted in two illegitimate barefist fighters and their sister coming up to Scotland from there, where the sister fell foul of the minister's son.
ReplyDeleteHow exciting
DeleteWe are shaped by the places we have lived.

DeleteJust back from 6 glorious days in Yorkshire. I am married to a Yorkshireman’s son and he introduced me to Yorkshire 53 years ago. Catriona
ReplyDeleteJust in from a day of swimming outside in beautiful North Yorkshire, , Semmer Water, Cauldron Falls, West Burton and Bardale beck. Wensleydale is beautiful and everything is so green and lush after all of the rain.
ReplyDeleteI have been to Yorkshire twice and loved every second .Drove through several towns that I read about and even found a town called "Gayle". I didn't get to see the town but I saw the signpost. I have a very old photo, will try to find it.
ReplyDeleteI was taking son home from his classes at Cambridge so we were on a quick tour. It was before Christmas and everywhere was magic.
It's so true that we are a product of where we grew up. I went home last week to visit my mother in the Adirondack mountains of NY State. I cannot describe the feeling of peace I get when I go back there, even though as an 18 year old, I couldn't wait to get out.
