Kitchen Table

I’ve been sorting my finances out today.
That means changing my phone providers, sorting a better deal with broadband and getting rid of my landline. I’ve streamlined some accounts and cancelled unwanted frivolous items such as Disney + ( which was a total indulgence as it kept me up to date with the Walking Dead)
With interest rates going up yet again it seemed like a prudent thing to do today.

I had a row with a Nazi Cyclist today too who rang his bell so insistently on the Dyserth Walkway for me and another woman and a dog to get out of his way that we barely had time to gather our thoughts. Dorothy got flummoxed and walked directly in front of him which caused more shouting on his part and he was most upset when I reminded him it was a walkway and not an official cycle track
fucking dog owners!” he yelled
Nazi Lycra wearer” was my robust reply
A good shout sometimes clears the tubes

Hey ho

Well done you, the bloody MAMIL’s feel so entitled, I am dearly tempted to accidentally fall into them or better still lamp them one, why do they think (or not) that they can do as they please😡. But you made the point beautifully. Jan in Castle Gresley

    1. I have ridden my bike down the same “ walkway” so I know of the dangers of ambling dogs and children and toddlers
Some ( only only some) of the serious bikers use the walkway as their own private cycle track

    2. I wouldn't call him a serious biker...more a prat on a bike over full of his own importance, not worthy to be called a cyclist.
Don't knock the lycra...it is so comfortable!

    4. Yes they do. My MAMIL neighbour looks easily nine months pregnant in his, with twins at least. I doubt if he gets up enough speed to be a nuisance though. Next photo in the sidebar - John in tight yellow lycra (Might make some readers weak at the knees, but not me,... I hope...)

  2. Even if our cyclists had bells and used them (which most don't) I wouldn't hear them racing up behind me as I am deaf. I have had many near misses along the public footpaths.

    1. I think you make a valuable point and the speed is another thing, sometimes you haven’t got time to. Gather up the dogs .
All I need to do with Dorothy is to click my fingers and point to my feet and she comes over immediately , but even so, many times I haven’t enough time to do so

  3. I call them Lycrists. The ones who ride two or three abreast in the middle of the road when there's a perfectly good cycle track, or think they don't need to obey traffic lights or give hand signals. Oh, you've got me started now! And to think, I'm not a driver and used to cycle to work every day. Mind you, I've never worn Lycra.🚴 Well done on getting your finances straight. xx

  4. "Nazi lycra wearer" - a brilliant riposte! Must remember that one! Why is it that people have to wear the latest high-tech branded sportswear when they go cycling - or running for that matter. Joggers are a similar group. Is it to identify with a tribe? Or a status symbol of wealth, fitness, and superiority? Are cyclists Nietzsche's new ubermensch? Hey ho.
I've just read a review of the Secret Invasion featuring Olivia Coleman and Samuel L Jackson, thought it might be worth a peek, then saw it was on Disney + which I don't have. Did I know of anyone with it? Why - John Gray in Trelawnyd...then clicked into Going Gently and saw that you'd got rid of it. There are too many streaming services - I can't keep up!

  5. That sounds like a good days work and money saving too. It's a necessary evil to have to buckle down and do this every so often isn't it. But well worth it once it's done.

  6. Some people are so entitled. The world is supposed to revolve around them. Cycling on a walkway puts everyone at risk. We have some cyclists that ride side-by- side on narrow winding roads. I drive behind them waiting for a straight away to go around safely. Cyclists do not like me driving slowly behind them. You would not believe some of the hand signals I've gotten. I do not care! Signal away...

  9. Could you also leave a letter for the council or whoever owns the pathway /road - As it's approaching school holidays I would foresee an accident - We have problem cyclists - Only the other day a dog walker I was talking to suddenly reprimanded one as it's not allowed - Earlier in the year our rangers closely followed a couple along the bridlepath - The adult cyclists were turning around whilst peddling giving usual backchat but the rangers were not having any of it x

Good for you! Cyclists are a nightmare on our local canal towpath, cycling far too fast, coming uo behid you as fast as they can and skimming your elbows, frightening dogs and toddlers, refusing to engage - even to say where they are going at junctions so you can't stp out of the way even if you want to - and being the proverbial pains. Glad you gave as good as you got! (They also do not like being told by a former cycling proficiency tutor - me! - that it is STILL illegal not to have a bell! Just saying.

I did the same thing with my finances when I retired a few years ago. You're right - it's about keeping control.

As for the biker, I walk on a trail through a wooded area which was originally meant for walkers. I'm fine with regular bikers, but many are way too aggressive. And now, some people are riding electric bikes (usually in pairs) through this woods! It is so intrusive in a space meant for a serene walk in nature.

  22. You and I are on the same page about phone providers and internet providers. I recently canceled my landline (it mainly got lots of spam calls), and changed to one provider for cell phone and internet. So far so good and saving money. I have a big purchase ahead, a new roof so saving a bit makes me happy.

Most cyclists here have e-bikes now. This means that they are really fast and that a lot of them are without experience of biking since they were old enough to drive a car. And with a 5000 € bike you can well expect dogs and pedestrians to get out of your way!

  26. As an ex-cyclist myself, I can honestly say that about 50% of them should be behind bars. They behave as if the rules of the road (and pathways) don't refer to cyclists.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I need to sort out my finances too but hate all the hassle it involves.

One of my regular walks is a "Shared" path by the river. Some days it is chaotic as dog walkers, mothers with pushchairs and children on small bikes, ordinary walkers, older people with walking aids, the odd fisherman and cyclists try to find space. Often it is fine and everyone is pleasant and we can all avoid each other. But there really isn't the space for the fast cyclist who just expects everyone to get out of his way quickly.

  28. Arrogant cyclist and then swearing! Maybe there should be anger management classes for cyclists who think we should get out of their way. I like the ones who don't stop at red lights and just cycle on or go on the pavement when it suits them. We pay road tax and have to abide by the highway code the "sainted" cyclist just does what he fancies.
    Infuriating!

The son of one of my patients who was terminally ill told me that he took his very frail Dad for a final drive in the countryside . He proceeded to wind the car window down and shout abuse at every cyclist they passed much to the
sons discomfort . When his son remarked on this he said “ I’ve wanted to have a good swear at them for years and they can’t get me when I’m dead !!! Quite an unusual one for the “ bucket list “! Xx Bernie

The behaviour of cyclists is not in dispute but the use of the word Nazi in other circumstances has led to repercussions beyond shouting at each other on a pathway. loss of job being one of them. I would suggest that other exchanges are considered if this happens in future, if indeed this word was ever shouted in the first place which I actually doubt very much.
