Harrison Ford is 80
Fuck me, when did that happen?
I notice he’s leading the charge in another Indiana Jones movie
This time with the glorious Phoebe Waller Bridge in tow
I’ve asked Gorgeous Dave if he wants to go and see it next week
It’s a big boys film for sure.
In 1984 my entire family dressed up in evening gowns and dinner jackets to go and see the “Premier”
Of Indiana Jones and The Temple Of Doom.
It was showing in the local Scala Cinema and we booked tickets in the balcony section much to the confusion of the ladies that ran the cinema on that night.
We even got in the local paper
Me and friend Nia
A few months later and buoyed up with our silliness we all dressed up as cowboys and Indians and went to watch a local version of Oklahoma to support my uncle and aunt who were in the chorus
Silliness is always a good idea and often makes wonderful memories
ReplyDeleteIt lightens the heart
DeleteDressing up as a group event is such a fun idea. I will have to see what I can instigate. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteVery dapper!
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of fashion, I thought of you when I saw this article in the Guardian about the bucket hat:
https://www.theguardian.com/fashion/2023/jun/23/bucket-hats-baseball-caps-battle-it-out-summer
Mr william’s glasses leave a lot to be desired
DeleteI hope Gorgeous Dave agrees to carry on the tradition and that you and he show up dressed fabulously for the movie!
ReplyDeleteHe’d look excellent in a dinner jacket
DeleteNo wonder you are such fun - is it genetic?
ReplyDeletececi
Of course
DeleteA bit of silliness is never a waste of time.
ReplyDeleteInherited from my maternal grandmother x
DeleteIt's a great idea to dress-up for a show. It's become quite a trend.
ReplyDeleteIt was 1984
DeleteLove the pictures and the fun!
ReplyDelete"Sulce et decorum est desipere in loco."
Latin for 'It is pleasant and proper to be foolish once ina w while'
Hugs!
Make that "Dulcee ..
Deleteat the beginning of the Latin, please.
Ain’t that the truth
DeleteLooks like you've always been a sartorial trendsetter, then, John! What will you wear to this one? xx
ReplyDeleteThat I have NEVER been HH
DeleteALWAYS a scruffy beggar
You all look magnificent! But have you gone to sing-along The Sound Of Music as nuns? Or The Rocky Horror Show as one of the cast? And if not, why not? Or might that be a future plan? :)
ReplyDeleteI’ve never been a Rocky fan , although I have enjoyed a singalong sound of music a few years ago
DeleteWhat a fun gang of family and friends. If that opening were today, you'd probably wear a T-shirt with a tuxedo imprint on the front.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea and a lot cheaper
DeleteMaybe you could have your own family theatre company x
ReplyDeleteMaybe
DeleteI love the idea of dressing up for a movie or theatre event. It looks like a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteIt can provide vicarious pleasure to the crowd watching many of whom would join in
DeleteWhat a brilliant idea to dress up for premieres, and you do look very dapper in that old photo. You should at the very least wear Indiana Jones hats and carry whips for your next visit. :-)
ReplyDeleteI’ll be nearer his age for sure
DeleteThat spirit of adventure lives on inside you.
ReplyDeleteOh yes I’m one mad bitch
DeleteLOVE that you dressed up!!! I am acquainted with a group of peeps who does similar. Usually superhero movies.
ReplyDeleteI’m too big to be superman
DeleteAbout 20 of us yachties went to the local tee shirt factory in Grenada and all bought the same tee shirt dress to wear to happy hour one night. Lots of laughs and a photo to remember it..that was about 25 years ago..My last 20 years have just gone poof, how does that happen? Make those years count John.xx GG
ReplyDeleteYes I agree xxmake it count
DeleteLovely memories to hold on to John.
ReplyDeleteThey are always there, flitting around my head and heart x
DeleteI dressed as a nun for a Sing-along-Sound of Music, such fun. I recently put my nun outfit and headdress into the charity clothes bag, I did wonder what the staff must have thought when they found it! Silliness from time to time is a good thing.
ReplyDeleteI think I’ve dressed as a nun once but I’ll be dammed if I can remember just why
DeleteYou probably wouldn't want to dress as an "Indian" nowadays. I think a lot of productions , movies tv, songs and the written word from years ago are now considered as racist or sexist. At least here in America.
ReplyDeleteAnd quite right too
DeleteWe were a product of our time for sure
Adding on: I recently reread a book from years ago and was appalled at the racist and sexist remarks that were mace which were acceptable in the 70s.
ReplyDeleteYes, it’s funny how significant attitudes can change over even one generation
DeleteI can't see any Indians
ReplyDeleteTheres a big sqwar on the front row
DeleteThat squaw is Nerys, a buxom nurse from my youth
DeleteNope can't see either sqwar or squaw
Deleteunless you mean the one with a headband a what looks like a nightgown with a fringe on the bottom. Not what I'd call buxom though.
So you are wrong !!!!there was an Indian there…..

DeleteYou were obviously attending the Hollywood premiere, at least in your minds. :)
ReplyDeleteI can't believe Harrison Ford is 80. Just add him to the long list of people at whose age I'm now astonished.
We last did this with the premier of Spectre lol
DeleteFamily fun is important. Great photos!
ReplyDeleteMy siblings and partners have always been silly in this form in a sort of defiant reaction to my parents who with their children were no fun at all
DeleteLove this! You gave me a chuckle this morning, thank you!
ReplyDeleteE
Veryvwelcome
DeleteGreat fun! And what a handsome lad you were!
ReplyDeleteWere lol
DeleteLooks like you had a fun bunch of family and friends, John!
ReplyDeleteSeems like your ideas about Lee on The Archers were very prescient.
ReplyDeleteThe archers storylines mostly are rather transparent
