Sushi

I am consistently amazed that such in innocuous blog such as Going Gently can rile some readers into such apoplexy and anger.
It baffles me, as does a comment from last night which admitted that my blog is bad for a certain reader’s mental health.
Gawd help us, if that’s the case, I hope that reader contacts MIND immediately before never reading Going Gently again.
There’s a lot to be said for self help.

Anyhow I went shopping today.
I’m not a big shopper, but I heard that a new sushi bar had opened up in the town of Mold which is located around 17 miles east of Trelawnyd, so I thought I’d treat myself.
Mold’s Welsh name is Yr Wyddgrug ( Mound in English) and it is a pretty market town overlooked by Theatre Clwyd which situated a mile or so out of town.
I was impressed with the bespoke shops as well as the sushi and as well as buying myself some Japanese tea, I bought some French bacon twists from a bone fide French baker, some books at in independent bookshop and some bespoke birthday cards from an art shop

  2. I completely fail to get my head around as to WHY people who get so annoyed by reading your blog (which in itself is extraordinary) continue to do so. I know it's been said often - and not only by yourself - but, you people, if it offends you, for Heaven' s sake, just STOP DOING IT! Easy-peasy!

    1. I may be wrong but I'm not so sure about it being more personal towards you rather than the blog itself, JayGee. I suspect that certain people feel some compulsion to read a blog , any blog, and derive great satisfaction by shooting it down - perhaps giving them some feeling of 'control', a sensation which they feel absent in their lives away from their computer/laptop/phone or whatever. At this point it only gives them yet deeper satisfaction when it results in a reaction from the blogger by their personalising it. I'm only theorising though must confess it's the thoughts of someone who's never been trolled and have had VERY few - hardly any, in fact - hostile comments in all my 15 years of blogging.

My morning routine: read two news feeds, one right leaning and one left; immediately read Going Gently to offset the horrifying, depressing stuff in the news. Going Gently is my reassuring, mind-balancing therapy. Thank you for writing it.

I would say just take some of it on board if it fits, and sod the rest. (Says the blogger with one commenter). I used to stick with gardening posts, and got into conversation with dozens of people around the world. It was wonderful. Now, since it's 'life' blogs that apparently follow me, there is nobody out there. Just opinions that don't like criticism. You aren't one. Don't become one.

Ok, so the problem has to be that your blog is honest, funny, candid and wise. And the other problem has to be that you are disgracefully normal, sand and loved by so many people online and in real life. Yes? So we have a sad, inadequate soul who resents your sanity and is still nothing more than the child with the strange look in the eye and an unhealthy obsession with picking scabs, it's own and other peoples. My message would be to gently tell them to stop spreading your misery onto others and get help, bless you. Because you do seriously need it.

I have lost all patience with her and a few others that feel they are so superior and they must visit blogs and spew their venom. I agree that they have some deep-seeded issues that need sorted but I now feel they enjoy being controversial so that is how they have fun. The profile fits a very lonely and insecure person but I am tired of taking the high road of feeling anything for them but annoyance. Yvonne

    John Gray

I follow many blogs and yours in unashamedly sentimental and arch all in the same breath.
    I love it .
One day I cannot quite believe what you say about someone in the village , the next I’m worried about an old cat I’ve never met or crying at an old nursing memory I have no experience of .
I am warmed by the fact you can’t eat food without dripping most of it on yourself , and by the fact you are still filled with sadness after a divorce you didn’t see coming .
Your comments about finding a man with a hole in his clothes made my heart soar for you and your efforts at reinventing yourself with friends and a new career and by plodding on bravely when I would have given up ,made me see you in a new light.
You are flawed, and silly, and shallow and wise
