Fate

I had pain in my ear and down my jaw all yesterday. Last night the pain was suddenly  so severe I rang out of hours and by mid evening I was collecting antibiotics and painkillers for a suspected tooth abscess
I went to bed early and woke up feeling as though Shelley Winters had sat on my head all night
I took more antibiotics and painkillers and by ten was starting to feel a little more human but still quite nauseous

I think fate wanted me to be home today for when I sat at the kitchen table looking at a cup of tea, I heard coughing from outside .
It was Albert  and he was being sick .
His damaged leg stuck out at an odd angle and looked suddenly useless.
He looked very unwell.
I scooped him up and I cradled him on my knee ( something I have never done before) and we sat in the garden as the dogs sniffed at his black fur until they grew bored and dropped one by one to the floor.

Albert died soon after

As Roger gleefully got up and chased a bumble bee up and down the gravel path in the sun like a loon.

  23. Oh, Albert ... what a beautiful black 🖤 kitty you were, even with your gimpy leg!! You had a mind of your own!!
I had to Google the use of "vale!":
Some dictionaries say that vale relates to valley. They do not mention the death of a person. The dictionary says vale relates to the declining years of a person's age, but then it says vale relates to goodbye, farewell, adieu. To valedict is to bid farewell.
I am glad you were able to hold Albert when he needed you the most!! ❤️

I wish l had not read this comment as it stirred up memories of the death of my husband in December. He died of oesophageal cancer and l think had a haemorrhage and choked. I hope it was quick for him and the sleeping pill he had meant he was not too aware. I went out today and it took me quite a while walking in the countryside to feel sort of ok again. Nobody’s fault these memories rise up every so often.

John, I read regularly but rarely post but felt I needed to offer my sincere condolences for Albert. He had a long life and was well looked after by you and had his “pet siblings” to love and terrorise too when he wanted. Being a pet lover and now owner of a cat I understand the lost of one of the pet family. May he walk the rainbow bridge forever with his beloved Winnie. All the best. Sally
