But it settled for ROM COM status.
Childhood friends Kazim ( Shazad Latif) and Zoe ( Lily James) have grown up next door to each other in an affluent London suburb. He is a serious Muslim doctor , whose only hidden flaws are cigarettes and occasional alcohol. And she is a serial singleton, filmmaker who lives on a boat on the Thames ( !)
When Kazim decides to allow his parents to assist him in finding a wife , Zoe is allowed to film the who process, a film which challenges everyone of what they think is the right way to love.
Written by Jemima Khan and directed by Shekhar Kapur, we still have to put up with the usual Asian stereotypes, but some like Asim Chaudrey great turn as Mo the Matchmaker are probably very true to life.
This blog has been put behind a warning for some reason
ReplyDeleteWarning? Maybe it was the pants on the patio. I'm guessing this Rom Com ends up with the childhood friends falling in love?
DeleteCould be mentioning Roger's new found toy in the previous post!
DeleteThey're finally catching up with you.
DeleteI see nothing in Google search. Perhaps one of your malicious anonymouses has reported something or made a complaint? There is far far worse on the internet than this little blog.
DeleteHave read up on this. It can be due to 'adult themes' or sensitive content - even on posts from many years ago. The mere mention of s3x might do it. Or, it might be that someone has reported the content, ie one of the malicious trolls that used to haunt this blog. I'd hope it's just the state of your underpants (if we're now allowed to use the word). You can't say anything anymore without some over-sensitive soul taking offence and reporting it. Yah, boo, sucks to all such jiggery- wokery I say, there is nothing remotely offensive about this blog. Keep saying it like it is John.
DeleteSounds like just the light froth you needed. Sometimes you just want to watch something that isn't too taxing or serious. Hope it did the trick. xx
ReplyDeleteI see no warning .
ReplyDeleteI think that movie would be very "the thing" to watch for fun and frivolity, them keeping it light.
You will have to say that some of the stereotypes of all of us are still true in some circles....the older folks keep their traditions alive which help what you are calling stereotypes alive.
I am so glad this movie provided the fluff you needed today.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if the matchmaker is as good as Lainey Kazanwas in Crossing Delancy?
Hugs!
Check your spam inbox I sent something good to you.
ReplyDeleteSounds like good rom-com fun!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that Jemima Khan wrote such things. I'd often wondered what she did.
ReplyDeleteI like watching "sweet and likeable"! Sounds good to me.
ReplyDeleteThe warning! Might have been the pants, but I think it’s more likely the mention of what Roger has been doing !
ReplyDeleteThank you, John! We don't have regular TV, so we don't get the ads for stuff. I love your recommendations and have enjoyed everything we've watched that has come about from them.
ReplyDeleteCan no longer get to the cinema as you know, but your brilliant reviews always get me thinking ( and often give me a topic to post about)
ReplyDeleteIf there is a local newspaper, you should write their movie and theater reviews.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a lovely way to spend a few hours.
ReplyDeleteMy comments are not published it seems John - one here and another previous day - I never said anything vulgar - honest x
ReplyDeleteBlog warning? What? Maybe it was the knickers post? Hilarious!
ReplyDeleteSounds fun
ReplyDeleteHow about a ''Dear Abby" type column for a newspaper.
ReplyDeleteA paying gig.
This is completely off piste John......
ReplyDeleteWe picked up 2 Chicken Pad Thai today from Thai by Thai in Chester Market.
