He was it of sorts yesterday afternoon and took himself upstairs to lie on my bed with a swishing of his tail. He ate only one small meal first thing and his gait was hesitant when he went to sit in the window seat as I made the bed.
His head was hunched and his tail remained thrashing.
He then pawed the soft cushion underneath him like a kitten pawing for milk.
This was not like him.
When I came up to bed last night, he wasn’t there , nor was he in the spare room .
I searched the cottage and I couldn’t find him.
The churned up snow on the patio had already frozen so there were no paw prints to see and there is no sign of him this morning.
He’s not at the neighbours, the garden or the sheds and I’m somewhat worried given his hatred of the cold and snow.
He’s an old boy with only a broken leg in his long life that ever needed treatment and he hates the vets so much.
I’m working the late shift today
Oh no. Have you asked the village to keep an eye out for him being as you are working late. Sometimes they slip away to be on their own x hugs xx
ReplyDeleteI hope you find him, and soon. x
ReplyDeleteOh John, my hearts in my mouth on your behalf. Love to you
ReplyDeleteThis is very upsetting news....poor old fella....! I hope you find him.
ReplyDeleteI fear your instinct may be right. Take care of yourself.
ReplyDeleteI don't often pray but I am praying for Albert and for you. If he is old he may have done what dogs and cats do and just gone off somewhere to come to his rest. But, I hope that even then you can find him. Now I have to go have a good cry.
ReplyDeleteDear Albert ......
ReplyDeleteOh John, my heart hurts for you. I pray you find him. Sending peace and love.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry, John. You know what he decided. You have had enough people in your life to know. And this is the weather they choose. Always tough, unsentimental and independent. Bless him.
ReplyDeleteOh, John! Darling Albert. I hope you find him soon, and that he's safe and well. Wish I lived close enough to help search for him. Sending hugs. xx
ReplyDeleteOh no sorry to hear this news.

oh dear, i remember when our much loved cat was very ill he was determined to get outside to hide away, hugs to you John x
ReplyDeleteThat's cats, all feral at heart. Hope you find him as it's the not knowing that is the hardest thing.
ReplyDeleteThat’s the way cats do it: dying alone in a hiding place. I hope you will find him soon to give him a nice burial. I wish you strength with the lost of this long lived and loved animal. He had a very good life with you!
ReplyDeleteOh, no. Perhaps he is hiding somewhere in the house.
ReplyDeleteKeep us posted.
ReplyDeleteThis is heart wrenching. Where could Albert have gone?
ReplyDeleteOh goodness! Poor chap. I'm lost for words.....Until we know, then.......
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry, John. I hope you find Albert. Have you checked under your sheds? I've helped neighbours hunt for their missing cats in the past. They've always been found under a shed or a deck in their own yard.
ReplyDeleteI hope you soon find him. You saw him in the afternoon, was the door left open since then for him to go out? Is it likely that he went out given his hatred of cold and snow?
ReplyDeleteSome say that cats go to hide away when they're dying but I've had many elderly cats in my life and found that not a single one has hidden away out of the home, quite the opposite, they've searched for human company. For years I've adopted the most elderly of cats that nobody else wanted and its been the same with every one.
I hope everything’s ok. One of our tabbies began to act in a wobbly uncertain way, went off into the garden and became hidden in an area of ground cover ivy. When we finally found her she had passed away with no sign of injury or stress - she maybe realised the end was coming and needed to do it privately.
ReplyDeleteOh no !!!!
ReplyDeleteOh dear,I so hope he's okay, wherever he is.May you be able to feel peace about whatever has happened, hoping to hear from you soon,-Mary
ReplyDeleteOh, John. This is such a sad development. I'm so sorry.

ReplyDeleteThat is heart breaking John - Albert is so loved xx

ReplyDeleteWe had one cat had a hidey-hole - we never did figure out where it was. Here's hoping Albert emerges, over whatever was ailing him. Take care. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteI cannot think of anything so anguishing. :-(

ReplyDeleteOn no, I hope you find him. This is so worrying.
ReplyDeleteCome home Albert. Please come home. x
ReplyDeletePoor old guy, I do hope you find him.
ReplyDeletei hope you soon find out what's happened to him xx
ReplyDeleteDear Albert. I'll be checking this space for updates for sure.
ReplyDeleteOh no. I'm not sure which is worse... an elderly cat who walks away from home to peacefully die or one who peacefully dies on/under one's bed. Poor dear Albert. A big hug for you, John dear. Stay safe and well.
ReplyDeleteThinking of you, and of course, Alfred.

ReplyDeleteSending you another piece of my heart.
ReplyDeleteI hope that your hunch is wrong. However, I have seen it play out in just that way.
ReplyDeleteShit shit shit!
ReplyDeleteI was just thinking of Albert and our two black kitties just last week. I hope you can find Albert.
ReplyDeleteLost comment, I hope you find him. Hugs and woofs.
ReplyDeleteCats sense - indeed know - approach of death and tend to withdraw into a dark and secluded place in which to leave this life. So I fear the worst. Roderick
ReplyDeleteI hope that Albert surprises you and comes home.
ReplyDeleteI think his instinct may have taken him off to a quiet spot.
ReplyDeleteKeeping my fingers crossed that he'll return home soon
ReplyDeleteKeeping my fingers crossed that he'll return home soon
