On The Nature Of Daylight

Roger found a packet of panini in the footwell of the car. It had fallen out of the shopping bag unnoticed and the resulting hysteria from Dorothy who shouldered her way out of her cage in the back seat like a fat faced drug raiding policeman in order to grab one out of Mary’s mouth would have  caused a car wreck if we weren’t stuck in the workman’s traffic lights just outside the village.

The bickering over the crumbs lasted at least 25 minutes so I had a headache brewing when I finally got to the dentists in Llandudno.

After my appointment we all had a walk along the Promenade to blow away the cobwebs and I turned listening to Spotify on my phone as the waves flung spray horizontally into our faces.

We sat down in a beach shelter as Max Richter’s On The Nature Of Daylight was playing.
It’s a deeply melancholy and rather beautiful piece of music
And as I listened the dogs crammed in closer, on either side of me in an effort to keep warm.
The pressure of each body just noticeable in three places
And the moment just broke my heart a little……

I love Max Richters arrangements. Oh my, I'm picturing the dogs leaning in and think I know ( being a soppy owner of 3 dogs!) just how you were feeling in that moment.

  10. I was on a zoom call with a doctor once, the meeting was about Katie so she had to be there. Katie did everything she could to get my attention away from the computer, including opening the freezer and pulling out a frozen muffin. One of the dogs found the muffin and all hell broke loose, the two dogs fighting over the muffin, at which point I yelled, "Jesus!". I'm sure the doctor was terribly impressed.

    1. I love that , once Winnie walked up to a woman pushing a pram in the church and pushed her whole head in the stroller shelf. After a rummage she victoriously pulled out a farleys rusk and ate it

I absolutely adore Max Richter’s music. He was composer of the week on Radio 3 the other week and so nice to hear him talk about his passion. He has composed many film scores and he also composed the music for Woolf Works, the newish ballet by Wayne McGregor which is being performed at the ROH this March. Would love to go, but need someone to go with who is just as passionate about VW, MR and the ballet as me! Sarah in Sussex

I can recommend Voices by Max Richter, the final track makes me cry every time, I love it but it breaks my heart.

  19. Beautiful ! I looked up the composer and realised that he had written some music for Shutter Island, and that really haunting sound was what I was reminded of. It made a deep impression on me at the time.
