Older

I woke around 3.15 pm yesterday afternoon, which was far too early.
I heard the tinkle of water and for a moment lay in bed with Dorothy’s fat face smiling at me.
I rolled over and looked at the floor to see Roger merrily peeing inside one of my work shoes.
Beyond caring I rolled back over and slept until after 4 pm when I had to get up.
I’m not an elastic band any more

We are all getting older

That little nugget of philosophy seeped into my head soon after when I was chatting to a villager with a poorly spouse. Dorothy as usual was playing up as my friend was shedding a tear of worry and remained a pain when she actually snapped the chewed bit off her lead in sheer boredom when unfortunately poorly Meirion showed up so wanting to share his exciting news of a forthcoming  cholecystectomy.
Some like Animal Helper Pat and Mrs Trellis have a sort of eternal youth about them, but as they pass the cottage, battling wind and rain and energetic dogs , some others are now looking their age and are slowing up or looking more bowed or grey.
Village Elder Islwyn still wears his yellow workman’s gear around the village but isn’t seen with his spade in hand as much as he was, and Mr Poznan cannot be viewed stilling straight on the village green as often as he once was, sat with hands resting on the top of his stick like Gandalf the Wizard.

I was a slimmer brunette when when I came to Bwthyn y Llan .
Now I kind of waddle and have my father’s hair.
I have blogged for over sixteen years now and I’m worrying that I could have heard the last from The Weaver of Grass who was with me at the start of my journey here as she has been at the start of many such journals.

  5. I am so worried about weaver. I hope she is fine. We are getting older and have more aches and pains. I am 72 and still busy in the Coucil and various associations... not sure about the word in English.. Keep well and busy John!

  6. Yes, Weaver holds a special place in the hearts of so many of us, doesn't she. We're all getting older John, but hopefully we will keep a similar outlook on life as Weaver has, seeing the best in each day, and grateful for the people who give her joy. I hope you got all the piddle out of your shoe ... I'm not sure where the joy is in that situation !!

I echo your worry and good wishes. Fingers crossed. But as we are there are times age presses heavily on our shoulders, And some days the awareness of this happening to everyone we see and care for is not good. Temple does indeed fugit! (Or a word very similar.........)

  8. Weaver must mean so much to you as such a positive and lovely person who has been with you from the beginning of your blog. I truly hope she is well.

As I grow older, I find I am more often thinking of the past than ever before and I have to make a conscious effort to live more in the moment, look to the future and be positive. It is sad to see the changes in our friends as time passes too.

  28. Yes, it's very worrying when blogging buddies disappear from the blogosphere and we don't know why. At least in a real life small village, there's always someone we can ask to find out the situation.

Since this type of journal/ blog has evolved into the world of the elderly, aging, infirm and lonely, it is sad but not surprising that some ''friends'' will be lost along the road of blog life.

  30. Sadly, it is inevitable. I'm feeling older too. I'm shocked that we've lived in our current flat for almost nine years. However, I think I would have leapt out of bed if I'd seen the dog peeing in my shoe! (What good that would have done I'm not sure.)

Who has heard, when she was in hospital before?

If any of her readers learns, can we hope that they will comment their information on her blog?

Lots of questions I know. Sigh... But it is so sad, when someone wd have enjoyed reading, disappears.

Oh and I should explain that my Icon will change on the 1st of Nov. In case it could be distressing to anyone. Smile

Roger and the Shoe…..I laughed because we have a new pup Agatha Blossmfeather and in her first days she decided that an appropriate place to deposit a No2 was the second bathroom floor What can you do other than pick it up wash the floor and close the door to future happenings

As for shoes, gardening shoes and my dogs are best friends. Make great chews and used to provide the vet with a steady income. Stopped that Source of income after a few pairs were destroyed. I am a slow learner
