I woke around 3.15 pm yesterday afternoon, which was far too early.
I heard the tinkle of water and for a moment lay in bed with Dorothy’s fat face smiling at me.
I rolled over and looked at the floor to see Roger merrily peeing inside one of my work shoes.
Beyond caring I rolled back over and slept until after 4 pm when I had to get up.
I’m not an elastic band any more
We are all getting older
That little nugget of philosophy seeped into my head soon after when I was chatting to a villager with a poorly spouse. Dorothy as usual was playing up as my friend was shedding a tear of worry and remained a pain when she actually snapped the chewed bit off her lead in sheer boredom when unfortunately poorly Meirion showed up so wanting to share his exciting news of a forthcoming cholecystectomy.
Some like Animal Helper Pat and Mrs Trellis have a sort of eternal youth about them, but as they pass the cottage, battling wind and rain and energetic dogs , some others are now looking their age and are slowing up or looking more bowed or grey.
Village Elder Islwyn still wears his yellow workman’s gear around the village but isn’t seen with his spade in hand as much as he was, and Mr Poznan cannot be viewed stilling straight on the village green as often as he once was, sat with hands resting on the top of his stick like Gandalf the Wizard.
I was a slimmer brunette when when I came to Bwthyn y Llan .
Now I kind of waddle and have my father’s hair.
I have blogged for over sixteen years now and I’m worrying that I could have heard the last from The Weaver of Grass who was with me at the start of my journey here as she has been at the start of many such journals.
Oh, your last paragraph! Surely not.
ReplyDeleteI was happy to see Suntie Glad's smiling face and she is well remembered.
ReplyDeleteI share your hope dear Weave is well.
Sorry about the piddle in your show.
Hugs!
please make that last word 'shoe. Ta. :)
DeleteIt’s not aunti glad
DeleteThis morning I was thinking about how much some people in blogland are in my thoughts every day even if I don't always comment. I'm worried too.
ReplyDeleteYes Yael
DeleteMany follow your thoughts for several years ,nquietly listening and sometimes commentating in the back ground
Not Weaver!
ReplyDeleteWell let’s hope she’s been away from home for whatever reason
DeleteI am so worried about weaver. I hope she is fine. We are getting older and have more aches and pains. I am 72 and still busy in the Coucil and various associations... not sure about the word in English.. Keep well and busy John!
ReplyDeleteYou too Dom x
DeleteYes, Weaver holds a special place in the hearts of so many of us, doesn't she. We're all getting older John, but hopefully we will keep a similar outlook on life as Weaver has, seeing the best in each day, and grateful for the people who give her joy. I hope you got all the piddle out of your shoe ... I'm not sure where the joy is in that situation !!
ReplyDeleteYes, she has a gentle heart
DeleteI echo your worry and good wishes. Fingers crossed. But as we are there are times age presses heavily on our shoulders, And some days the awareness of this happening to everyone we see and care for is not good. Temple does indeed fugit! (Or a word very similar.........)
ReplyDeleteDogs are lucky, they have absolutely no idea of how old they are
DeleteWeaver must mean so much to you as such a positive and lovely person who has been with you from the beginning of your blog. I truly hope she is well.
ReplyDeleteAs I grow older, I find I am more often thinking of the past than ever before and I have to make a conscious effort to live more in the moment, look to the future and be positive. It is sad to see the changes in our friends as time passes too.
She has been a benign and gentle constant to many of us in blogland for many years. When a few of us fall out , or decline in posting, she has remained loyal and always present
DeleteI’m on another iPad btw one that I cannot fir some reason I cannot log in on , so forgive my anon comments
DeleteJG
I miss her terribly, her absence leaves a hole in blogland. But she is a determined creature, we should not give up yet and imagine the worst. I think Roger showed true intelligence, at least he 'contained' his pee in a shoe.
ReplyDeleteI have smelly feet
DeleteThere are so many people like you and Weaver who have become a treasured part of our lives through the blogs you share. I do hope that we have news before much longer.
ReplyDeleteYes fingers crossed Ruth . JG X
DeleteGetting older stinks, but then the alternative isn't too rosy either! I'm finding aches and pains in places I didn't even know I'd got. Almost every movement is accompanied by oohs and aahs! I do hope Weaver is OK. I hope we all hear something soon. xx
ReplyDeleteYes, I fart when cough and cough when I cough
DeleteJG
I reckon Roger having a wee into your slipper is a message that your HIS territory. He owns you - just accept it. :-0
ReplyDelete2nd 'your' = 'you're'. (Of course!)
DeleteRaymondo , I agree and he’s practicing his aim
DeleteJg
I never imagined what getting older would be like. I don't like it. I miss my youth, my healthy glow and wish I didn't have to pull my face in shape before facing the day.
ReplyDeleteMovingly put and I agree whole heartedly x
DeleteFingers crossed that Weaver is ok.Barbarax
ReplyDeleteYes x
DeleteIndeed, we're all getting older. Luckily I have no serious medical problems as yet but that could change very quickly. I hope I just die in my sleep before I get too decrepit.
ReplyDeleteI am so serious about that wish Nick .
DeleteI know at some stage I’m going to invoke a clinical directive
I read both your blog and the Weavers and truly hope that all is well. You both bring an added dimension to my life on the other side of the world to you. ❤️
ReplyDeleteWeaver’s blog is more considered and more gentle than mine , but thank u
DeleteUpdate on Pat - Weaver of Grass
ReplyDeletehttps://codlinsandcream2.blogspot.com/2020/10/get-well-soon-pat-weaver-of-grass.html?m=1
please delete previous comment - I did not catch the post was dated in 2020.
DeleteThanks for trying
DeleteNice to know your work shoes are probably Crocs or something similarly non-soluble. Thinking of Weaver of Grass... and you.
ReplyDeleteDisposable
DeleteThe March of Time... until finally we all fall down as in "Ring A Ring of Roses".
ReplyDeleteWe plod on until we don’t jg
DeleteYes I keep hoping for a (relatively) benign explanation for W of G's silence. Meanwhile dear Roger provides the comic relief - pretty good control if the puddle was contained in a shoe! What will he do next to cheer things up?
ReplyDeleteWarmly,
Ceci
He’s been on the go , non stop today . Mooching and chewing and sniffing jg
DeleteThere was a rumour of a newly broken hip so let’s hope Weaver will be back soon - fully recovered. She can have no idea how much she is valued.
ReplyDeleteI remember feeling shocked and bereft when dear Teresa Kasner ,from a favourite blog , died suddenly.
ReplyDeleteI, along with so so many others here, join you in hoping that W of Grass is ok x
Alison in Wales x
Yes, I too was shocked and saddened when Teresa died. It was so sudden and unexpected. A friend never met. xx
DeleteI check each day on all of my Blogging friends and always worry if they haven't been posting. I've created a little community that helps me get through my day and I would miss you if I couldn't read you anymore.
ReplyDeleteGetting older is rough...
Getting older is rough. I hope weaver is okay.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Carpe Diem, for there are no guarantees.
ReplyDeleteI'm worried about Weaver too and miss her words in blog land. We just have to wait and hope she's getting good care and recovering from something. Hard to tell. I'd rather think positive and send those vibes along. Is Roger trying to tell you something? To late, he's solved his problem.... Quite the fellow that Roger!
ReplyDeleteOh he’s only just learning to cock his leg. Having found he’s good at it means that he’s practicing , like men do with fag butts in urinals
DeleteJg
Last time Weaver was in hospital someone sent a message telling us about it, a close friend or her son. Hope the same will happen now. JanF
ReplyDeleteYes I remember , let’s hope it’s the same
DeleteYes, it's very worrying when blogging buddies disappear from the blogosphere and we don't know why. At least in a real life small village, there's always someone we can ask to find out the situation.
ReplyDeleteYes usually that’s the case. And I’ve had good blog friends that have gone off radar before. Usually the reason is sadly sudden illness with no chances of saying goodbye
DeleteSo did you squelch off to work in the pissy shoe? You sow A. Glad but don t mention her---she must be well into her hundred years now, if still with us?
ReplyDeleteSince this type of journal/ blog has evolved into the world of the elderly, aging, infirm and lonely, it is sad but not surprising that some ''friends'' will be lost along the road of blog life.
"show"* aunty Glad /typo
DeleteLol am I infirm , elderly or just lonely ?
DeleteHummm not quite sure about your demographic
Auntie Gladys is 103 and still with us . ( in body) she is in a nursing home in flint …sadly isolated over covid for 2 years
I am barking -I do hope that is allowed ? x 🐎🐶🦄
DeleteSadly, it is inevitable. I'm feeling older too. I'm shocked that we've lived in our current flat for almost nine years. However, I think I would have leapt out of bed if I'd seen the dog peeing in my shoe! (What good that would have done I'm not sure.)
ReplyDeleteMy work shoes are “ disposable “ and bought from a supermarket ..they were coming to the end of their life anyhow
DeleteI've been worried about Weaverofgrass too. I would hope that her son would post vital information to let her readers know.
ReplyDeleteSon or carer, perhaps... Certainly her son.
DeleteWho has heard, when she was in hospital before?
If any of her readers learns, can we hope that they will comment their information on her blog?
Lots of questions I know. Sigh... But it is so sad, when someone wd have enjoyed reading, disappears.
Oh and I should explain that my Icon will change on the 1st of Nov. In case it could be distressing to anyone. Smile
Gentle hugs
John, are your replies credited to 'anonymous'?
ReplyDeleteS
Still hoing for an update on dear Weave.
Hugs!
The Stalker here, that’s how I identify on Andrews blog also.
ReplyDeleteRoger and the Shoe…..I laughed because we have a new pup Agatha Blossmfeather and in her first days she decided that an appropriate place to deposit a No2 was the second bathroom floor What can you do other than pick it up wash the floor and close the door to future happenings
As for shoes, gardening shoes and my dogs are best friends. Make great chews and used to provide the vet with a steady income. Stopped that Source of income after a few pairs were destroyed. I am a slow learner
Good wishes
Andrews a knob
DeleteI know that Weave had a son living nearby, I would have hoped that he would let the world know what has happened. Somehow I fear the worst, it's not like her to leave us uninformed.
ReplyDeleteHoping for the best with Weave.
ReplyDeleteAt least it was only a shoe...well done Roger on his aim!!
Never having stepped foot on their home continent, much less having met these great ladies, your remark about the Weaver's absence still sparked the thought: "No, not the Weaver, too. Not so soon after the Queen!"
ReplyDeleteI am glad your work shoes are disposable. I hope Weaver will be okay. I have also lost bloggers through the years, always sad.
