Hot Afternoon

Yesterday I met some friends from the village to discuss planning an open day for the new pond. It was a case of mixing work with pleasure as the meeting took place in a dappled green garden under the trees, with wine glasses and beers in our hands.

It’s felt that my holiday has just been extended by several days .
I’ve agreed to help manage the Flower Show again and next year it ( as well as the novelty vegetable photograph competition so enjoyed by blog readers ) shall return.
It felt the right thing to do.
Last night I caught up with my family again for a Spanish supper in my sister in law’s garden.
It was her first dinner party post lockdown, another milestone for her, and a pleasure for us as she cooks very well.
So today is a non day as I’m working a single shift tonight.

It’s far too hot to walk the dogs more than 100 yards which makes Dorothy listless and sulking.
I’ve already sat her under a cold shower earlier and now she smells of body shop pink Grapefruit soap but is still unhappy at not being able travel in the car.
I gave her the meat from a left over lamb chop in an effort to buck her up but that failed miserably
Roger arrives on Monday
I wonder what that little bombshell will have on the bulldog diva.

  2. Planning anything while drinking beer and wine is most unwise. I believe it is how Johnson, Farage, Rees-Mogg etc. came up with the idea of Brexit and look what a disaster that is!

  3. Glad to hear you'll be back in the saddle again with the Flower Show and Veggies Novelty Photos competition again! I wonder if Dorothy has a premonition that her life is about to change? Roger will perk everyone up, I'm sure!

  4. Planning with a wide or beer in hand usually means you agree to far too many things ... dangerous but fun. 🤣

  5. It is nice that you volunteer in your village. Now with your part time work, you can go back to enjoying the events you like to plan. Good luck with the new pup!

    1. I have missed it Ellen. Since my marriage broke up in 2018 and with 2 years lockdown , I’ve been out of village life for four years effectively

  6. Oh, to sit in dappled shade with a glass of something cooling! Dorothy looks very disgruntled there. Just wait till Roger arrives! Hope the night isn't too hot. Work and heat isn't a good combination. xx

  9. Your cottage looks beautiful, the deep blue modern sofa is superb. I don't think we have ever seen a complete view of the living room like this. I hope Roger can come if the heat continues, how exciting.

  13. I feel a little tense at the imminent arrival of your Roger -My tich is rather alarmed by some rushing dogs -Yesterday I was assisted by a kindly dog walker who suggested the technique of - turn and face - Having 9 dogs in 30 odd years I'd never heard of it -It seems very useful I thought x

  17. You've always enjoyed your work with the village and it is great that you are back and very involved. What techniques you will use to introduce Roger to the family. You've done this before so you must have expertise. Dorothy's reaction is what I am thinking about.

  18. Oh how exciting is the imminent arrival of another pup. Dorothy will have her nose out of joint I am sure but I expect her to be her at her diva isk best in her reactions. Great to meet up with your family on home soil... just makes the holiday more fun. I am pleased to hear you are becoming involved with the flower show again... I think that as at work you are exceptional at leading a team; so the less experienced villagers are in for a treat. Looking forward to the pictures of strange veg! Always fun. I hope to visit your village one day... your descriptions of village life make me want to see it for myself. Now that's something to look forward to in these less than certain times.

  21. I like the sign a friend saw in the English Midlands...If you are taking your dog for a walk between 10am and 6pm, wear a fur coat and go barefoot...then you will know how your dog feels
