Open Range

I’m just enjoying one of the most underrated Westerns in cinema . Open Range (2003) stars Kevin Costner ,Robert Duvall ( at his most understated) and the gloriously attractive Annette Benning

The film says a lot about respect, friendship and loneliness. I’m enjoying it with a beer and a large packet of cheese and onion

Benning is the only woman I’d ever go straight for.

  2. Well, as it's unlikely you'll ever get the chance, I guess all those hunky, bearded gays out there can rest easy! xx

  5. It must be underrated because I never heard of it. I like both Duvall and Benning, so that would make it worth watching.

  11. Started watching it when it first came out and got sidetracked. (The story of my life) I'm glad you gave me a reason to return to it and finish watching it.

  13. This is my favorite movie, and I love Lonesome Dove and Silverado. A Western movie girl. Just love, love Duvall and Costner living by the Cowboy Code. I watch it a couple of times a year.

  16. I too have always had the hots for Annette B. - at least if it's possible for a 100% (or near as dammit) gay man to have such. I remember the first time I saw her on screen (in 1989's 'Valmont') and didn't know who she was, I did wonder if it could be Jenny Agutter, another of the small handful of female stars who've made a very deep life's
    impression on my psyche.

I understand what you mean about the comparison with Jenny Agutter... they seem to have similar visage. I think Jenny Agutter plays the nun in Call the midwife.

    2. Yes, she does, Jo, though I've never seen it.

When I first watched 'Valmont' with Annette B., I'd not seen Jenny A. in anything other than 'Railway Children' 19 years earlier (still one of my all-time 20 favourite films!) and it was right from that early film that she'd made such a strong impression on me - and continues to do so.

  21. Well well well...I just knew we were meant for each other. I look exactly like Annette Benning. Just wondering how you 'll cope wearing an akubra ,R M William boots and the heat in the outback. Can you sing? I prefer a tenor voice:)

  23. I watched the trailer but decided against the movie. To be honest I'm sick and tired of american rah-rah. This is my land, you can't tell me what to do, all the conflict. We watched the new Top Gun and thought exactly the same. US decides they have to stop a rogue nation from producing enriched uranium. Define rogue. Then lots of improbable shit. I'm in a mood obviously:)
