Nipples on the concrete

It’s still and very hot indeed.
The ponies in the field are standing quietly in the shade of the hawthorn hedges with back legs bent and Dorothy is lying nipples to concrete in order to cool down after a short walk.
The cottage is peaceful as my neighbours in the new build have put Charlie inside out of the sun, where he can bark his voice box out of his head without bothering anyone.
I’m off out shortly to buy white gloss paint.
I’ve been meaning to paint my bathroom door since CBM was here.
Not only did I buy white paint but I saw some planters going cheap at Sainsbury’s so brought them home and filled them with cheerful pink geraniums
I’m not booked to work until the weekend and have emailed the dog breeder about picking Roger Up

It sounds that a majority of the village has covid

Btw my booked train home last night ( the last one from London ) was cancelled, thank goodness I got an earlier train, the guard on which let slip that the recent excuses of shortage of personnel wasn't quite the truth?
Hummmmm

  1. Nipple's on concrete? Now there's an idea for Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood!

  2. After a sweltering morning we have some fine cloud which is taking the bite out of the sunshine. Due to be a hot one overnight though.
How lovely that Roger will soon be with you - lots of photos, of course. Not really fussed on photos of the bathroom door, but well done!

  4. Your new pots planted with pink geraniums look great. The color says: summer. Now the train travel is going upside down with cancellations? It must be related to the dispute over salary. It sounds like you'll soon be introducing Roger to the family. What fun.

  6. Hope the concrete is cool, otherwise it'll be burnt nipples - ouch! Lots of photos of Roger required, please. Yes, I'm not sure what's going on with the trains, but it's a good job you caught an earlier train home. I suppose you could have slept on Euston station... xx

  8. Transportation is so dicey these days. I saw that Heathrow is cancelling flights for lack of staff. So the train folks are basically doing work slow-downs?

  9. I just can't wait for that first shot of Roger. I wonder what Albert, Dorothy and Mary will think - at least he will even up the sexes so a good ally for Albert.

    1. Oh the fluff will fly for sure
Dorothy will potentially bully him dreadfully until he finds his feet

  10. I'm still puzzling over "nipples on the concrete." Because of the heat? Or am I missing something?

    1. All my bulldogs are rescue bulldogs who have had puppies. They therefore have rather pronounced “ undercarriages” which are all skin and teats
So when they get hot, they have a tendency to lie flat on a cold floor

  14. Good luck with the new dog! I am learning from my daughter's new puppy that they are a lot of work but my daughter, Maggie is so thrilled with her Sofie that she is enjoying every minute! My daughter is 33 and it has been her dream for 33 years to get a dog! So she is happy!

  17. We have a children's boat-shaped plastic sand pit that we fill with water for Billy. He loves splashing around in it to keep cool. It was 37 C here yesterday; we all needed to keep cool.

  20. Your geraniums in their planters look so lovely John ..... very Mediterranean to go with the weather. I have just washed the floors as my children/grandchildren are coming to stay at the weekend ..... my face is beetroot red and I'm knackered. I can't do anything in this weather. Looking forward to Rogers arrival. XXXX

So looking forward to seeing and hearing about Rogers arrival. Thanks for the tips in reply to a previous comment about introducing a pup into the mix - since our old chap died the house feels a little off kilter with two female dogs and I know that , although it's sheer folly, it's only a matter of time before we are looking to give a little boychap a home!

  22. I cannot wait to see Roger! LOVE his name! You will have quite the pack after his addition! For the life of me, I cannot understand what people do for money, if they are not working! Here in the states we have the same lack of staff everywhere - frighteningly in hospitals, too. So where the F do all these non-working people get their money? Unemployment pay is only for so long. I am so confused!
