Buggery Bollocks

 I’m writing this at work.
No I wasn’t expecting to work last tonight either!
I arranged to meet up with a friend and make supper, so as the fish pie was browning nicely in the oven and a nice white was chilling in the fridge I was surprised by a phone call from work .
I failed to notice it was at 7.30 pm, the start time for night duty .
A month ago I have volunteered to cover a night duty without a second R./N on duty
I’d totally forgotten about it
Supper wasn’t scheduled until 8 pm so I did the dash of shame , dropped off the wine and dinner at my guest’s house with profuse apologies before driving to work a good hour and a half late.

Bollocks, bugger bollocks

Any dinner party disasters out there?

  2. Oh no! You have a good explanation tho, having been so ill so recently.
My only dinner party disasters center around my ex in-laws, who habitually appeared for holiday meals hours early, then were bored, restless and intrusive as I tried to cook and shower and mind two toddlers. One
Thanksgiving [Christmas?] they arrived anyway even tho I was hospitalized in intensive care. MIL "cooked" omg what a mess. [my sweet nanny tidied a few days later; MIL didn't ''do'' cleanups. ]

  3. My first attempt at cooking Turkey after I got married on the surface looked fantastic, until I went to carve. Who knew they put the giblets in a plastic bag and shoved it in the other cavity!. We ate the other end and biffed the front end ....lesson learned. We now eat ham.

  6. I'm sure they at least appreciated the wine and fish pie. Not surprised some things have been forgotten after being ill with Covid.

  14. I was about to share my disastrous dinner party story but it is too terrible to write about. It must be shared in person and I have to be bolstered with a glass of wine. Trust me, it was horrible.

  16. I once was trying to put together a supper party. I had such a headache. I took something for it and kept right on with the food preparation. I just was so tired and it got worse and worse. I realized just before the guests arrived that I'd taken an headache PM medication. I drank coffee, but I was really no good for conversation that night. I listened attentively, but had nothing to say.
