I hate it when people say something “ wasn’t meant to be” if a plan doesn’t come off
Of course it was meant to happen.
It just didn’t .
I’m full of the first proper cold I’ve experienced in three years.and so yesterday I licked my disappointed wounds mostly in bed, with vicks rubbed on the soles of my feet and slept most of the day and all of the night.
My sister, Janet called up this morning and completed my birthday garden makeover. She observed that my chest cold couldn’t have done well in the 35 degree heat and fumes of central Rome and she was right of course.
I’m wheezing like a fat walrus.
I made a spicy katsu curry with salmon and coconut cream and tidied the cottage as it simmered with lashings of coriander . The neighbours commented on the lovely smell.
I couldn’t eat it when it was cooked
More lemon water for me
My friend Ruth sent me a photo of her minuscule static caravan toilet in a successful effort to lighten the mood. The toilet was so small that I had to back into it slowly like an articulated lorry backing down an ally and when one of Ruth’s Findhorn friends asked how I was coping with the rather “rustic” arrangements I kind of shocked her by describing using the loo as
“ lowering a family sized jelly onto an eggcup”
I will leave you with that visual
Hope you feel better soon, John!
ReplyDeleteI had so many people say it to me when I didn't get to Genoa that I started to believe it.
ReplyDeleteWell, you may be feeling a bit rough but you made me giggle with that image. Hope a few more hours/days of R&R mean you're back at full throttle. xx
ReplyDeleteSounds like you desperately needed the sleep. I'm sorry your vacation was so rudely cancelled by the airline but maybe its worked out for the better.
ReplyDeleteYou concluding line and then going back to your post title made me laugh long and hard! I hope your cold doesn't last long.
ReplyDeleteI'm giggling at that too! Hope you feel better very soon.
ReplyDeleteYou do have a way with words, lol
ReplyDeleteRest, hydrate, etc. Hope you feel better soon.
Hope you're feelilng better soon. Your last visual, I fear it will stay with me for the rest of my life! Thanks for the laugh. Sending hugs and get well soon.
ReplyDeleteWell, if you have to be sick, it's better NOT to be in Rome. That's for sure. Why do you rub Vicks on the bottoms of your feet? I've never heard of that cold treatment! Feel better soon...
ReplyDeleteI've never seen a toilet area that small. Rustic living for sure. Not for me. With your newly renovated luxury bathroom, it must have been a bit of a shock to see that toilet. Feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteGood thing you have been watching your weight, you wouldn't want to get wedged in there and have to be pried out. Airplane toilets keep getting smaller, and I am not.
ReplyDeleteHere's one I hate: "Everything happens for a reason." No. No it doesn't. Just like, "It's all good." Seriously?
ReplyDeleteOr- "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger." Fuck off with that shit.
At least you still have your sense of humour! :)
ReplyDeleteAye, it "wasn't meant to be" when those brave lads failed to return from the battlefields of France - just as it wasn't meant to be when Mark Chapman gunned down John Lennon on December 8th 1980. The thing is - what was meant to be? Bollocks!
ReplyDeleteI agree completely 'It wasn't meant to be ...' TOSH of course bloody well it was, otherwise it wouldn't have been advertised, paid for, travelled to etc etc It just didn't happen!!
ReplyDeleteYou'll never know if the Rome heat would have helped your cold or made it worse. I do know that in the heat of Spain I got over a really bad cold in four days, and it came back with a vengeance as soon as I hit the cold street of Manchester.
Oh, thanks for that visual. I’ll be sharing that with my friends. I suppose it would have been worse to have been in Rome with that cold. I don’t believe things aren’t meant to be or are. Nor that things happen for a reason. Things happen. We do what we can.
ReplyDeleteAnd it took a shoe horn to get it unstuck. Ha!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on the “wasn’t meant to be” thoughts. It's the same people who tell the bride that it's good luck when it is raining on her wedding day or if a bird poops on your head, you will have good luck too. Do people really believe that rubbish? Sorry John, I guess I'm feeling a bit cynical today -- But I do hope you feel better!
ReplyDeleteAmen Kim x
DeleteMy late mother used to comfort me by saying "Most things happen for the best", and I tended to believe her. Something better usually came along.
