The vagaries in blogger’s software has meant that I have generally always allowed anonymous comments to appear. This has become more evident in recent months where many genuine commentators have found it problematical to even log in let alone leave a message or comment and so under the initial label of anonymity they can join in the “ fun” with hopefully leaving a genuine label of who they are and where they are from.
This isn’t always the case and it’s par for the course to have genuinely anonymous commentators hiding snideness and tiresome negativity within comments ….people who feel entitled to say exactly what they like and do so without the constraints of personal accountability.
Cowards, all of them.
Especially the ones that manage to log in under a pseudonym, buoyed up by a false name and a badge.
They are scum.
I guess this will always happen to a certain degree as I am a somewhat Marmite(ish) characteristics the truth be known. But snideness is tiresome,
For everyone….
I know , for I grew up with a snide mother
She was exhausting .
And so before I move on, I will repeat what I’ve repeated in the past.
This is my playpen.
If you have a comment please comment, but put a genuine name to your words. Be respectful of others and of me, and if they appear, personal insults, snideness or rudeness will simply be deleted.
By all means disagree with me, but do so respectfully but if I feel I am being trolled well then you will be deleted immediately and you have wasted your sad sack time….
Anyhow, I should be Sitges today. It’s 70 degrees and sunny .
And I had a balcony room at The Santa Maria overlooking the sea.
Never mind. I’ve got a full refund on the room and I’ve changed my flights for a Barcelona City break in September, so all is not lost. Gorgeous Dave’s new girlfriend got dumped by easyJet in the far Mediterranean, it’s cost her thousands to get flights home
Perhaps it’s good that I’m not returning to Sitges again, Barcelona looks like a fine city to get lost in.
I’m planning my week this morning.
It’s cool and with the hint of more rain. But the garden is a lush green and the ponies in the field in front of the cottage have much to feed on in their allotted paddocks..
The bunting is still up in the village , and everywhere looks cheerful,
As it should be
Ps thanks to Tom , I found a load of comments tucked away in spam for some strange reason, all have been relocated to going gently
I will never understand what people get from leaving nasty comments. They must lead very sad and lonely lives. Anyway, your garden and the field look lush and green (the benefit of all the rain we've had - every cloud and all that!) and there are worse views to be had. xx
ReplyDeletePower, entitlement, mental brittleness, inflated ego ,
DeleteWho knows
It is a pain to have lost your sunshine break just as we have wet miserable weather at the moment but the city break in September sounds good. I have enjoyed seeing the flags and bunting every where.
ReplyDeleteIt’s been all rather lovely
DeleteBarcelona is indeed a great city. Lots to see and do. You can catch the double decker slow train to Sitges. It goes all along the coast and it's a fun ride and only about an hour. You probably already know this!!!
ReplyDeleteI’ve caught that train many times Carole.
DeleteTotally agree with you. They are cowards and should just p off and find somewhere else to be negative.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your break. Every day away from work is a bonus.
Yes poppy , I’m formulating a plan
DeleteWell, you are not overlooking the sea, but you do have a lovely view from the window of your home. Hope you have a nice week, John.
ReplyDeleteThank you Ellen x
DeleteYou have always had so much patience with some of the cowardly anonymous commenters and let them get away with things ... far much more than me. If in doubt I press delete and they vanish for good.
ReplyDeleteI sorry that your sunshine break has been cancelled, all this airport and flights disruption has been terrible for so many people. I'm glad we went to Spain when we did a couple of weeks ago, and our next little break is literally so close to home we will be able to visit to feed Ginger and keep him company all through the week ... or maybe even try him on the boat!!
I haven’t patience , I just don’t immediately notice them with working full time.
Delete..they just tire me ..I just want a little peace ,,I’m not someone who courts controversy
I was meant to be going away but a miserable sod didn't want to get wet or cold-So for now I am awaiting a visit to the sea -Yesterday I skipped around the corner to a private event I'd been invited to where happy people danced in the street to a lovely lady singer-60s,70s and soul x
ReplyDeletePerhaps flis , you will stop trying to defend me, I can defend myself deArheart xx
DeleteOk I won't - But also I wanted to defend myself when they accuse me of lying about my life x
DeleteAbsolutely flis but if they attack you in future , I will delete their comments …I don’t always see them x
DeleteOakey dokey John- thankyou x
DeleteBig breaths flis and don’t react
DeleteBeautiful photograph, I think you should frame it.
ReplyDeleteWhy frame it ,? The picture I see everyday
Delete"Keyboard warriors" is a good description, LOL!
ReplyDeleteCoined by affable despot jason about someone local who bad mouthedtgestreet party
DeleteLovely view out your window!
ReplyDeleteWhen the comment method changed, I happend on the way to add my name. Just click on "comment as" and options appear.
Enjoy planning!!
Hugs!
Please make that "Click on Anonymous for those options to appear. Ta!
DeleteMore adventures ahead babs x
DeleteIt is one thing to disagree and quite another to be intentionally nasty to hurt someone. I don't understand why people will read a blog that they have such nasty reactions to.
ReplyDeleteWeather here has been wonderful. I've been able to enjoy my morning coffee on the deck . OMG just as I was writing this a hummingbird appeared at my feeder. My day is now complete.
I have certain commentators who want to teach me a lesson. I have others who go out of their way to disagree ..I’ve never understood it. I’ve never commentated negatively ( unless I specifically wanted to) on someone else’s blog
DeleteWhat a gorgeous view from window. Looking at that view, sipping tea, and daydreaming would be a vacation for me. Enjoy your week off. It won't match a Spain vacation but I bet you'll fill it with interesting and fun activities.
ReplyDeleteI’ve got other short breaks booked. One to Berlin, one to Ireland and now Barcelona so I’m not doing badly x
DeleteSorry about Sitges. Glad I couldn’t meet you there this time around! Barcelona sounds exciting.
ReplyDeleteMeet me there for tapas
Deletelove your blog. A real technophobe and have tried to comment before so this may work today. Love your honesty, style of writing and look forward to reading it everyday. Hugs
ReplyDeleteNoreen thank u . That means a lot
DeleteBarcelona is wonderful. We had a hotel near the centre and walked for miles every day - would love to go back.
ReplyDeleteWould you recommend it ? Let me know details
DeleteI'd recommend it - if I can find the name. It was 22 years ago! I understand the Sagrada Familia is a bit nearer completion!!!
DeleteAnd still not finished lol
DeleteYou always seem to take the negative comments in stride. I'd be furious and deleting left and right. There's no reason for someone to even be here if they have nothing but negative stuff to say.
ReplyDeleteI get furious only occasionally , often I’m more hurt by people who insist they know me more than I know myself
DeleteI looked this up, but nothig explained what this means, please? :"I am a somewhat Marmite(ish) characteristics"
ReplyDeleteAn acquired taste on line
DeleteLizzy, Marmite is a yeast extract spread which has a strong, distinctive taste. To say something is Marmite means some people will love it and others hate it - there's no in between! Hope that helps. xx
ReplyDeleteThanks, so it is Marmite-ish *character*, auto correct confusion. Thanks!
DeleteHooker , thanksfir the clarification
DeleteI love your blog. Please don't ever stop sharing your life with us. It's a wonderful way to start my day. I'm Gail, in Northern California USA. Thank you, John.
ReplyDeleteI’m far too conceited to be going anywhere dear gail x lol
DeleteI wouldn't call it conceited ... I would call it generous and open-hearted.
DeleteThe view from your window is beautiful John. After the end of this week you will be able to gloat that your holiday still to come.
ReplyDeleteAlways a lovely optimist dear pat x
DeleteLovely view. Are you are right better to have a flight cancelled before you leave than when you are there.
ReplyDeleteFunny my return journey is still on line! Go figure
DeleteYour view from the window is preferable to the view from sitting for hours on an airport floor! I also have had problems with the new comment system. Technologies clearly prevails!! Stop the facility for anonymous comments, as trying to think of a false name seems to deter brains of such low IQs they only dare to be snide to people who can't reach to deck them. But seriously, I stopped anon guest comments on my fan fiction site and it has been very rewarding screening. Life is too short to spare these morons even the chance of oxygen .
ReplyDeleteI think you may be right. I will give it another go though liz
DeleteWhatever you are most comfortable with. I shall be in Flintshire at the weekend for a crime fiction annual get together at Gladstone's, so it is bound to rain. Just a weather warning!
DeleteLol our fingers almost touch
DeleteThat, my friend, is a beautiful thought. But I would never dream of imposing a visit upon you.
DeleteBeautiful view from your window. Hopefully the flights situation will have calmed down by the time you go to Barcelona-my daughter’s second favourite city. Catriona
ReplyDeleteI’ve got Rome next week and a city visit to Berlin later in the year too with another
DeleteSorry your vaycay was upset but Barcelona in September should be delightful. I just watched a tv show about Madrid and the city (and the food) looked marvelous. BTW, I am Bruce from Prescott Valley, Arizona, USA. But I blog and comment with my avatar name: Catalyst. I hope you'll not be offended.
ReplyDeleteOf course not xx
DeleteI loved your toadstool lol
DeleteI loved your toadstool lol
DeleteYou will love Barcelona in September. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteYes I’m already looking at tapas tours
DeleteI was in Barcelona the first week of May. It's a beautiful city. You will enjoy it. Denise in KC
ReplyDeleteI think I will Denise , no old ghosts there too
DeleteThe blogger comment filter consistently snares a couple of friends, it is also catching genuine spam. I am checking it daily. Only kindness for you dear,
ReplyDeleteCheers david x
DeleteI have seen anonymous comments slipping in to mine of late...
ReplyDeleteThey seem to tweak things but not let us bloggers know!!
Enjoy your vacation when you get it..and like someone commented, better stuck at home than stuck away.
Keep checking your spam folder, I am finding many comments there from valid readers as well as many of my own comments!
DeleteGo figure
Why don't you just delete the comments you don't like without writing a post about them as you're just giving them the publicity they crave.
ReplyDeletePersonally I don't mind reading the anon comments, t takes all sorts as they say, but what gets on my nerves is the likes of Ursula who is vicious and has every intention to cause harm.
Perhaps you could also remind other commenters (flis comes to mind) that you don't need others to speak for you, you're more than capable of looking after yourself.
I never mind the anon comments until they are taken over by sad trolls and even sadder individuals who want to spit negativity .
DeleteI’ve asked commentators not to defend me and make fuel for unstable fires and your point is valid
Everyone please note.
I’ve got to be quicker on the delete button , which is hard sometimes
I wish the trolls and snide commenters would just go away and be nasty elsewhere. In real life, we would not let them in our houses. It is a shame that Blogger does not have a facility that allows blog owners to bar them with one click of the "enter" key.
ReplyDeleteIt’s balancing things I guess YP i could keep comments to Google users only , and cut out most of commentators. I’ve considered allowing no comments but my ego couldn’t cope with that one.
DeleteLol.
I’ve been here before and I’ve had to remind people to behave and they do, until they don’t
Such is the internet .
Barcelona is lovely and there is a monastery in the near by mountains that is also beautiful and exciting to travel to, and you can stay in a former monk's cell in case that appeals. Lovely hotel in the city, too, blanking on the name but it was chic and inexpensive (relatively); if the name floats back in I will let you know.
ReplyDeletececi
Oh do send me details , I live like a monk already
DeleteAh, the monastery is called Montserrat, and it is really not hard to get to, just exotic seeming I guess. Still wracking the brain about the name of the in town hotel. Maybe it will come to me in the night.
Deletececi
I love the view that your window frames so perfectly. You keep on being John, and ignore the riff raff. But I agree with deleting abusive comments, whether they are aimed at your or another commenter.
ReplyDeleteYeap , delete delete delete xx
DeleteI have had only a Small handful of distasteful comments on my blog but I leave them there for all to see the mindset of the commenter
Delete*you
ReplyDeleteYour sky looks much the same as mine in northern, coastal California where we’re welcoming any drops we can find with our drought. Peaceful, garden views like yours invite a calming day. Looking forward to hearing about your plan B travels, too. Meanwhile, enjoy the furry family! P.S. I doubt that any of us would miss anonymous.
ReplyDeleteI love big skies
DeleteOh, and I thought you had deleted them because I hide under a pseudonym.
ReplyDeleteYou and Weaver are my constants Tom xx
DeleteYou need a secretary to manage the comments for you!
ReplyDeleteYour light hearted comment has a ring of truth , working full time , means I sometimes miss threads of comments which flourish before I get home
DeleteKeyboard Warrior. is to good a name for them Keyboard cowards seems more apt to me.
ReplyDeleteIrene
A term coined by the affable despot jason
DeleteI'll correct you here John, the term Keyboard Warrior wasn't coined by Jason, it's been around for some years.
ReplyDeleteThere's an entry for it in the Urban Dictionary in 2005.
(I think it has a Chinese origin but I'm not sure on that)
Forogot to put my name - it's Pam
DeleteFor me it’s been coined by jason
DeleteHey John
ReplyDeleteThe big indoor Barcelona Central Market is worth a tour, and on the other side of the market, across from the main entrance, is a great place to have churros y chocolate. I loved browsing through the seafood and candy stalls.
Why can't people just enjoy the company and thoughts expressed. Creating a battle seems senseless and sometimes even hurtful. Isn't there enough in the world that is unpleasant? Your guidelines for the blog are very reasonable.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry about the problems with your flight but it could be a blessing in disguise. You never know what Barcelona may have in store for you! Your view out the window looks like a classic piece of art!
ReplyDeleteYou have an exquisite view out your window! I marveled at the fact that there were no screens on the windows the one and only time I travelled to England! Do you have screens? Sorry to hear your plans got way laid but glad you now have new plans for travel! -Jenn
ReplyDeleteHi John, Virginia here. I've been having trouble leaving comments on a couple of blogs - they seem to just disappear. And it won't let me sign in with Google any more, insisting on being "Anonymous". I'm astounded at some comments - makes me wonder how those who have to put up with them 24/7 manage!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry your holiday got cancelled. We have done Barcelona a couple of times and just loved it. Fabulous food, and galleries!!! Especially the Joan Miro Museum and all the Gaudi... Oh, I am jealous! We haven't been back since the Sangria Familia was completed. I also spent days moseying around in a Jewish quarter in Girona. There was another great museum there too. (I love museums!)
Wherever you go, you'll have a great time, I'm sure.
I think you will enjoy Barcelona more than Sitges. (The genuine) Cro.
ReplyDeletePlease can I come I’d love Barcelona, joking aside have a great time this week doing nothing, I’m Sandy from Wales
ReplyDeleteI can see the comment problem. You can't be constantly policing the blog as you have a life to lead and yet by preventing all Anonymous replies you would lose some genuine ones. Seems a bit like a teacher having to leave a huge classroom alone and hope that we all behave :)
ReplyDeleteBarcelona should be amazing and you can create new experiences and memories for the future. I always love the planning and excitement as much as an actual trip.
You have explained my predicament better than most x
DeleteI have to apologize, I can no longer sign in to leave a comment and I was so used to that requirement I keep forgetting to add my name.
ReplyDeleteLisa
Some 'people' just need to grow up a little.
ReplyDeleteYour doorway is wonderful with it's bird nesting. It just wouldn't happen for me as I have two cats. One thinks that he is an SAS assign, the other, she thinks that she is a dog. Never mind
