I chose to work my birthday so I could have this weekend off.
My plan was to support the Jubilee Street Party but mainly I wanted today off, so I could pack.
I was due to fly to Spain tomorrow morning.
My flight now has been cancelled, cancelled by an early morning email
Like so many have been done over the last week or so.
Bugger.
I’ve lost my car parking fee which is a shame
But I’ve managed to get a refund on the hotel.
The flights I’ve changed to a different airport so my summer Sitges trip is now an autumnal Barcelona city break, but that has cost me!
And so, I’ve got over a week in between now and my trip to Rome on the 17th to fill….
Answers on a postcard.
I shall start by the cinema on this a rather glum day
The Quiet Girl , the first Gallic feature film
Oh, what a bummer! I don't understand the airlines selling tickets when they knew the flights couldn't go ahead as they'd got rid of most of the staff. Maybe a week sitting in your lovely garden, under the canopy, which I assume CBM has erected, and pretending you're in Spain. You just need the sunshine! xx
ReplyDeleteA lucky turn of events. Sitges then Rome back to back was going to lead to a dip in your health.
ReplyDeleteReally?
DeleteOh DRAT! Still, Dottie and Albert should be well pleased.
ReplyDeleteDisappointing to put it mildly. My daughter and her family are also flying today and so far I haven't heard anything to the contrary.
ReplyDeleteOffs gmail is being an arse,,,I have to go and register dunno why,
ReplyDeleteIts Jo from Auckland... so sorry your trip has gone tits up... why I have no idea,,,I hope the Stiges trip makes up for it... darn all of these changes.
Jo in Auckland
Oh no! So disappointing x I hope you enjoy the cinema
ReplyDeleteI know of someone who trekked with llamas in the UK-and wondered whether that would take your fancy x
ReplyDeleteSleep, long walks on the beach with the dogs. It is hard to fathom a last minute cancellation and no plan for accommodating the passengers, no alternate later flight,
ReplyDeleteBelated birthday wishes, John. How disappointing about your holiday plans. I hope you find pleasing ways to fill the week.
ReplyDeleteThat's too bad, John. Glad you have made other plans to look forward to.
ReplyDeleteThere is a reason. Now to see what happens.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand the chaos in air travel, but it is a darn shame that customers are losing money over it.
ReplyDeleteHow disappointing. DS1 and DIL had their 2nd flight canceled Friday night so they were stuck overnight in the midway airport. At leaeast you are home with another trip to look forward to.
ReplyDeleteAs for what to do ... paint your upstairs hall? Meet up with Nu? Have a cookout in your lovely garden?
The last postcard I sent to you was lost in the mail.
Hugs!
Flight cancellation seems to be a hazard worldwide. You are the 4th person I hear has experienced this. Airlines should be held responsible for costs incurred by the customer due to airline cancellations.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry to read this, John and for anyone affected by the current flight situation and having their plans cancelled or changed. How about a last minute city break so you can get a change of scenery? How about Dublin or Edinburgh perhaps? Louise
ReplyDeleteToo bad about your trip! Air travel is still up in the air, so to speak.
ReplyDeleteBetter you find out about your cancelled flight in advance, rather than spend a day in a queue to get on the plane and only then have it cancelled! Sleep, walk, enjoy your garden and your friends. You don't have to be 'doing something' all the time.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about the flight! It's hard to make travel plans now, everything is so chaotic.
ReplyDeleteMy wife had her plane canceled just yesterday. She's getting home a day late. Hope your changes work out okay ... and don't give you too much agita!
ReplyDeleteAs veg artist says - you don't have to be doing something all the time. Why is it that you can't be content just pottering about with no plans? Were you like this when you were married?
ReplyDeleteWhy are so many comments bordering on the rude or snide…what’s the matter with u people
DeleteWhere are all the "so many comments" I can't see them.
DeletePerhaps John meant “why are so many of your comments …”

DeleteAccording to me and if I understand your prose correctly ,you seem obsessed with John, don't you? Maybe are you really unhappy?
DeleteLate to the party Catherine ,
DeleteI’m guessing you are right
Could the same thing happen with your trip to Rome? If given the opportunity I would do a tour of stately homes and their beautiful gardens or churches or try out a new cafe each day-comparing cream teas, drive to the Highlands and walk the vast spaces, go to magnificent libraries and museums, stay at a monastery......
ReplyDeleteI'd be concerned about the Rome trip as well, John. It all seems to depend on which airport and airline you've booked with, and whether they got their act together to recruit ground staff (and get them through the lengthy security clearance) in time, as well as the little matter of seats being double-booked!
DeleteI'd be thinking of alternatives like Susan for the Rome trip as well, just in case.
In the meantime, enjoy the rest and sleep.
I’m flying from a different airport for Rome , so fingers crossed..I can’t be THAT unlucky lol
DeleteSorry about the holiday. Wish I was well enough to say come to the Dales.
ReplyDeleteToo late now as you cancelled your plans but there seems to be train service between London and Barcelona, then I guess you'd need a car rental. Train travel thru France might be interesting?
ReplyDeleteWhatever you do, please keep out of my dreams!
ReplyDeleteWe were lucky that we chose Newhaven Dieppe for our crossing. Dover Calais was in real trouble.
ReplyDeleteSuch a disappointment! Maybe plan a city break in the UK and some National Trust day outs matched up with staying the night nearby and exploring the nearby town too. At least then you will avoid airline chaos.
ReplyDeleteThat’s shit John. I’m sorry x
ReplyDeleteStink!! we know you love Stiges too. <3
ReplyDeleteSorry about your flight cancellation. Hopefully, Rome will happen, fingers crossed for you.
