Honeysuckle Around the Door.

Albert has sat in the front living room window with his head cocked to the right for most of the morning
From time to time his teeth chatter
It’s a cat’s way of expressing excitement
Secreted inside the honeysuckle which has cascaded over the front door sit two female blackbirds. One on eggs the other on chicks. In another nest higher up is a sparrow mother and deeper in the cover lies another nest but I haven’t seen it’s occupants as yet although the path outside is covered in bird droppings.
Four avian families in one place .
I’m thrilled
Its like Rear Window with birds.

In the brief sun that caught the front of the cottage around nine, the air was filled with the sound of hundreds of honeybees visiting the scented flower heads, their buzzing, even louder than Albert’s purring as he splashed drool on the back of the Trendy blue sofa.

Today I’m going to decide if I’m going away for a few days .I’ll probably go on Thursday as my sister has invited me to see Top Gun tomorrow and it’s Choir today. I’m open to any experience as long as it’s away.
I need to be away , if that makes sense
I need not to be here

  1. I understand that need to be anywhere but here.

Are the birds’ nests safe from Albert? (Poor guy.)

    2. Like you, I go into the city (Málaga) and just wander, or hit the museums. Sometimes all it takes is a walk to the other side of town. Just nice to get out of the neighborhood. But the pull to leave home can be strong sometime, so we’re going to Norway for the month of August. After that, I’m sure I’ll be happy to be home for a while... or at least I think I will.

Re previous post, we stayed at the Hotel Gravina (now Grupotel Gravina) in Barcelona. It's in a quiet side street off the top of Las Ramblas, not far from where the airport bus drops off. Might be too quiet for you though!

  3. I well recognise that teeth-chattering from Albert on his having birds close at hand yet, for them, maddeningly out of reach - accompanied by a weak little, pleading 'miaow'. Sweet. It makes me feel rather sorry for them, but happy for the birds.

  4. The path is "covered" in bird droppings? Perhaps it's a golden eagle. They do a lot of poo-poo.

Makes perfect sense to me it takes me all my time to get up and dressed. But at least today the sun is not only out but also warm.

Anne Bee - for obvious reasons I recommend Dublin too but bring a lot of money. It is horrendously expensive to stay the night there, anywhere in the city.

  7. I bet he is beside himself, I hope the nests are nice and secure.

Oh I know the feeling of needing to be away, the only time it left me was when I lived in the caravan, something about the atmosphere of a caravan park and the changing neighbours took the need to escape away completely. It's probably the reason I have lived in so many different places over the course of my life.

  9. I remember that teeth chattering from my 2, now long gone, cats. I always knew when they were eyeing up a bird! How lucky are you to have 4 families in your honeysuckle. I hope Albert (and any other predators around) can't get to them. xx

The honeysuckle is wonderful. Hope the birds stay safe. Dublin or Edinburgh might be nice. Hope you get away, when you feel like that a change is necessary.

Praktik Rambla was the very nice hotel - quiet, affordable as things go, and in the center of the most interesting area (a personal call of course). Nice if small rooms.

The monastery (message yesterday) was a trip highlight - get there via trains, lots of tourists who leave with the trains making at least an over night stay there magical.
I clearly need to revisit Barcelona!

  18. It's been unseasonably cold and windy here until the last couple days, and there are no bees to be seen -- in spite of the fact that we left the yard full of dandelions as long as we could, in hopes of helping them out. We are worried. Most years the yard is full of their buzzing. Fingers crossed it's only a delay due to weather. -Kate

Honeysuckle: the most lovely of summer fragrances! Mi the bees as you go in and out your door!
Hope you find the perfect not-too-far-away place to go that will satisfy your wanderlust.

  24. Your honeysuckle seems to be choice real estate for nesting birds. Seeing baby birds emerge and take their first flight is always lovely. Getting away for a few days and having a change of atmosphere is great medicine.

You love pottery so why not visit the Potteries. Middleport pottery is lovely, it’s where the great pottery throw down is filmed. Also a trip to Wedgwoods at Barlaston is a must too. Their restaurant/cafe does the most delicious food.

  28. I can relate to that need to just be away. Even more so after the last couple of years. It's as if we need to somehow "reset" ourselves. Loved reading the exchange about the Barcelona hotel and monastery!
Hope you enjoy "Top Gun" today. I loved it.

  29. It's a lovely time of year. Lots of birds are nesting in my garden and I have a family of starlings who have crept up under the eaves of the house. My cat is 16 and her catching birds days are over - thank goodness!

  30. I need away to.. I read that a new museum opened at Cape Canaveral..The Wizard of Oz, with an inside exhibit also on van Gogh,
2 favorite things..had hoped to time a trip to match up with a rocket launch at night time..
I priced rooms and add that to the increased cost of gasoline..well it's a no go ...
On the brighter side...a night red side..I have a pair of cardinals in my yard.
I'll go later when summer season has passed and prices go down.

  31. Yes my cat does the same thing outside on the balcony. Chattering to the starlings.
