Tidy Up

I’m working the next four out of five long days ( the hospice is getting the most of me before I go part time in four weeks) so I may not be blogging every day. We are so short staffed, a symptom of post covid too, me thinks ….so many nurses have left nursing after the last two years

In health care masks are still to be worn and it’s playing havoc with my beard which has morphed from being a trimmed goatee to something like Father Christmas would be proud of,

Perhaps I will leave it and wear purple, and shout in the street…..I’m 60 on Wednesday

  1. Wearing masks all the time while nursing must be a nightmare! Especially in the summer too. So many staff leaving has made it so difficult for those left.

Hope you get through the four days work ok and stay well for your birthday plans.

I’m 67 and can attest to the 60s being a great decade! Your beard looks very neat - even if fuller and longer than you prefer. Hope the four day spell passes without incident and that your 60th will be exactly as you’d have hoped it would be!

  4. By the time you go part time, you'll feel like a squeezed lemon! Don't let them guilt-trip you into upping your hours again. You deserve a rest. I know you and Janet have some lovely plans for your birthday, so ENJOY! xx

  5. And wearing a mask means it’s not practical to use beard oil. That must drive you crazy.

    2. I had never even heard of beard oil until a straight friend recommended it. I still didn’t consider it until more than a year later when I was given a full-size free sample while shopping at Rituals.

    3. I’ve used it in my head hair too

  10. Sometimes wish I was sixty again - more often not, epecially after terrible shooting in Texas. As to being 60 hope you are stil around at 90!

  11. For purposes of clinical hygiene you may wish to consider shaving off the beard to reveal the pink baby bum cheeks beneath. A mask over a beard leaves tiny gaps through which viruses can leak or be inhaled.

Damn. I learnt too late of your birthday to send you something gorgeous. I'd like to say something positive about turning 60, but I cannot.

    2. Plait your beard?, there would have to be a rule against that. Although it would give the confused patients something to hang on to.

  18. Going part time will be excellent and more balanced with time to pursue your interests. Less grind and more pleasure... A very good start to your 60th.

  19. I've just checked John on my i pad and if you choose to you may dye your beard quite safely with a beetroot-Please don't wear a best Walking Dead t shirt though as it will be stained and spoilt x

ES and MD are both student nurses. MD qualifies in September and it has been hard work to keep her in Uni as she worked on a COVID ward and in my opinion she has PTSD but Uni refuse to offer them counselling and nearly 60% of her year have quit, But bless her she has powered through and is on course for a 2:1 and has a job on Community.
As for the beard how are you managing to keep facial fluff on and not spontaneously combust? PPE is so warm!!

  31. Love the speckled beard, wearing a mask must make you itch like crazy; when I wear one my face sweats terribly and that's without a beard! I turned 60 in February...not a lot changes but I do notice more and more my legs and hips feeling stiff in the mornings. I hope you have a fabulous day even though you are working... and Janet of course too x
