Froth On Your Hot Chocolate

Velvet voiced Linda had told me there was a woodpecker present in the trees around the village pond last week but I only got to hear him hammer today.
I think my early morning dawn chorus sojourn has turned me into everything birds

I’m on nights until Monday morning.
And so we all went to bed for an hour at 1pm and wasted the afternoon by sleeping in until 5.30.
I cooked a prawn stir fry and walked the girls
And I’m writing this , in my uniform , coffee in hand.

The nice bit of the day has been a trio of communications .
A friend’s carefully written and honest email; a message from a faraway friend suggesting lunch and a kind mega early birthday card with a gift of a crisp ten pound note in it.

Contacts from friends are always nice but when you are single they can be the real froth on your hot chocolate so to speak.

Flintshire county council sent me a 150 £ rebate too, to help with my fuel bills

That was a nice gesture too

I can hear the woodpecker again, as I get ready to leave.

We often see woodpeckers in our garden. Lovely birds, they sound like someone has started DIY early in the day!

Ah, friends are also the sprinkles on the donut of life!
We have a wookpecker here but we haven't seen him yet.
Wishing your well on this run of night shifts. Safe journeys.

  8. I've never, to my knowledge, heard a woodpecker. I used to regularly hear cuckoos, but haven't for many years now. Hoping the night shifts pass swiftly and uneventfully. xx

  9. I hear them most days and at the moment they are unbelievably loud x

  10. "...the real froth on your hot chocolate..." I like that. Since you already have an early birthday card, let me be the second to wish you a very happy birthday. (whenever it is.)

  13. I never like when you are on nights - you always get overtired.

  14. Most mornings I hear woodpeckers behind my house. Sometimes I see them but not always. A multitude of birds were singing this morning. They know it's Spring; at 40 degrees, sunny and windy it feels cold and not very Spring-like..

  15. The ''carefully written and honest" email sounds ominous. Criticism disguised as caring? "I just thought you needed to hear about this"?
While there are no woodpeckers here at the beach [too harsh/ no trees], where I grew up we had many varieties from big flickers to tiny downy and redheaded versions. My dad always made sure our yards had a lot of trees and woods. If you hang out a feeder with suet and seeds they will come to your yard.

  16. We had a Woodpecker in the park recently. I don't know what type it was as I never actually saw it. Sadly it seems to have gone now; probably to find a mate.
