I’m back to work tomorrow so today feels like that awful Sunday night knotty feeling you used to get the say before school.
The community Association put on a soup and roll lunch in aid of Ukrainian Refugees and in support the village school children had designed Ukrainian flags to stand on each table.
Polish Monika , the hall’s caretaker had made Borscht which was absolutely delicious as the obvious choice of soup to have, even the the Velvet Voiced Linda gave us a choice of six from the menu.
I sat with Affable Despot Jason’s father in law and we talked central heating and bara brith for a while.
Mrs Trellis sans her bobble hat was upset that the church was closing and village elders Ian, Nick and David seemed to be putting the worlds rights over tea and cake.
I gave Bron Haul Marion my raffle tickets and I wanted to get back to light the fire and to do jobs
I’m working four long days in the next five
A lunch to have this weather , Borscht is tasty!
ReplyDeleteA good way to bring community members together too.
Sending best wishes for those long shifts. I doubt that many others would work such long hours
The hall made 180 quid all told ,
DeleteThat's nice looking borscht!
ReplyDeleteI’ve never eaten it before, it was bloody lovely
DeleteI have never ever tasted borscht. Your photo certainly makes it look tasty, tho.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your work shifts! Hope all goes smoothly. :)
I will pop round to monika for the recipe
DeleteNever had borscht but would love to give it a try. Have a good work week.
ReplyDeleteSee above, I will post the recipe

DeleteBorscht is excellent. It's especially good on a cool day.
ReplyDeleteIt’s got a kick to it , which I liked
DeleteIt’s quite seasoned which I liked
DeleteWhat a delightful gathering of people for lunch. As you described the conversations around the room, I had a feeling I'd fit right in. I tried borscht years ago and at the time, I didn't care for it because I wasn't accustomed to cold soups. I'd sure love a bowl right now though.
ReplyDeleteThis is a warm soup , a Ukrainian recipe
DeleteWhat an excellent way to raise money to help the people of Ukraine. I'm making a blue and yellow quilt to send.
ReplyDeleteWishing you well on those long day shifts and I know the doom and dread you feel on this day before. You certainly used those many days off to the max!
Big hugs!
Thanks babs …..I would sponsor you to make a yellow and blue quilt
DeleteIt's many years since I tasted Borscht. I think I'd prefer it hot (sacrilege, I know!) as cold soup doesn't do it for me. Anything we can do to help the people of Ukraine has got to be good. I can't begin to imagine what they are going through. I used to hate that "day before school" feeling, especially as I worked in a school! xx
ReplyDeleteThis version was hot ,and it was delicious
DeleteLooking forward to the recipe - although, as mentioned before, beetroot has an unfortunate effect on me. Being a nurse, I'm sure you know what. 'nuff said! 😉 x
DeleteWhat a great event and a nice opportunity to connect with everyone. I love borscht!
ReplyDeleteNot many masks , I almost feel normal x.
DeleteSorry you’ve got to get back to work. Glad you’ve got work to get back to. Ewww, blech, ugh, just the thought of borscht.
ReplyDeleteI need a holiday in Spain , can I visit lol
DeleteI wish we had room for houseguests. But you can visit any time! There are plenty of places to stay nearby. I was going to ask you when you have in mind for your trip to Sitges. Maybe I can come up and crash your party for a drink or a meal.
DeleteI haven't had Borscht for a long time, but remember it was delicious. Must try it when I have grown this year's beetroots. Such a pity about the church closing. I hope it is not knocked down for a new housing development and it will alter the character of the village.
ReplyDeleteWatch this space …..lol there are plans
DeleteLess than 15 minutes ago I have just eaten grated beetroot on my parmasan toast-spookily x
ReplyDeleteS p o ok y x
DeleteHardly the stuff of the International Brigades but if it makes folk feel better what the hell.
ReplyDeleteEvery little helps ….maybe one Ukrainian will read one day that a tiny welsh village supported them one cold Wednesday afternoon
DeleteIt will raise a smile ….
I have never eaten borscht; I might give it a go before the winter. I hate that back to work feeling, I am starting my A/L on Monday for two whole weeks... I am beside myself with joy about it... so I know what going back will feel like. Chin up this too will pass.
ReplyDeleteJo in Auckland
I really don’t want to go back
DeleteWe have a lot of Ukrainians and descendants of Ukrainian immigrants here in Saskatchewan, where Ukrainian perogies and borscht have become mainstream foods on our plates.
ReplyDeleteI too get that "oh darn it's a school night" feeling in the evening before the next day's work away from my home office.

It’s a small world Kate x
DeleteTake it easy when you are not at work - you don't want to go down with anything. Keep good and healthy.
ReplyDeleteI will mom x
