A Bobble Hat As Tall As A Bishop’s Mitre

It was just after four I think when the tolling Church bell woke me up
I felt disorientated for a while and lay there thinking of why it was doing so.
It took me a while to remember it was the Church’s last day as a functioning Church and that the last service was perhaps coinciding with the bell ringing of St Paul’s and other Churches across the country in support of Ukraine.
The congregation was small given that  the Bishop was officiating , but I wasn’t surprised given the fact that he had not supported that the Church be given Pilgrim Status as we had requested.
A lot of the those supporters had kept away.
I only know this because I checked St Michael’s page of Facebook
Mrs Trellis was there though , her bobble hat erect as always.
It was almost as tall as the Bishop’s Mitre

  1. The white bobble hat and the white bishop's mitre truly bookend that photo very nicely!

It is sad that The Bishop didn't help the Village keep it's Church for future generations -But your description of the marvellous Mrs Trellis made me laugh out loud x

    1. They have their reasons and I wouldn’t want their jobs in this time of austerity and constant change
But there is still much money in church land and buildings

  4. I wonder if Mrs. Trellis wore that hat on purpose, to make a statement about his lack of support, as her hat does appear to challenge the Bishop's wear. She does appear to have a devilish smile on her face.

    1. I’d like to think so, but it’s a constant part of her winter wardrobe

  6. It's a shame Mrs Trellis isn't the bishop. She'd have kept the church going. She looks a force to be reckoned with! xx

  7. How small-minded of church goers to stay away or perhaps they were never church goers in the first place.

    1. Small minded? Humm
I think it could have been more a protest comment as the Bishop had the say on whether the church would become a pilgrim church and therefore supported by the community

Don't blame the Bishop. Like many people, 'supporters' want the church to be there, they just don't want to go themselves! It's the same everywhere.

    1. I think the pilgrim church, where the non church going community members could have supported the historic buildings future was a very valid option

  9. The hat image is priceless. The bishop should have just stayed home.

  12. On noticing the challenge from Mrs Trellis, I wonder did the Bishop deliberately position himself to make the monument look like a massive extension to his hat? I can see six apparent eegits in this photo, and The Trellis is not one of them.

Love Mrs. Trellis' hat standing proud and the Bishop should be ashamed of his money-based decision. I wonder if that decision could be appealed but it may be too late for that. Sad.

    Hugs!

    1. It was a money based and congregation sized decision babs…I think they should have given the pilgrim option a go

  14. Let's hope somebody with a lot of money buys that church and makes it into a monument/museum/place of meditation/worship. So much of value is being destroyed and lost these days ..

  19. Mrs. Trellis's hat IS rather mitre-like! I didn't realize the pilgrim status had been rejected. So this means the church is closed permanently, with no services or visiting clergy at all? That's a shame.
