The Duke bored me
I didn’t like any of the characters
I didn’t get them
The bumbling Broadbent, I found irritating , rather than his usual endearing self and Mathew Goode looked rather odd when he faced the screen in bifocals which gave him the look of the terrible Japanese horror that was Micky Rooney in Breakfast at Tiffany’s
I feel odd today
Oh, I was hoping The Duke was going to be a good watch. I hate it when all the hype doesn't match up to the film. Makes you feel quite deflated! Some days are like that, you wake up feeling not quite right and that feeling stays with you. Hope tomorrow is better. xx
ReplyDeleteIt left me flat
DeleteI feel odd every day. Being alive puzzles me greatly. Being dead will be a doddle though.
ReplyDeleteSlightly unreversible doddle
DeleteThankfully
DeleteYou worry me
DeleteSeriously
DeleteI am absolutely fine old boy, but once round this merry-go-round is enough, and even if it wasn't it is all we will get. I fully intend to stay on until Nature throws me off, however, which will be soon enough, I am sure. It seems you may worry too much. And so many people seem to have a great fear of reality, and often such little grasp of it that they must invent fantasies to console them. I am sure you are more familiar with reality than most, however. But your worries should be directed elsewhere. Would you really like to live again, and again, and again... forever? What a dreadful prospect. "Forever" never ends, you know.
DeleteHummm xx ok
DeleteFeeling "odd" each day need not mean feeling unhappy my bloggy friend; and nor does accepting that we live once then die forever. It puzzle me why stating what seems so obvious so often seems to concern people.
DeleteLet’s leave things at that x
DeleteRemember what I told you. Don't fill every ten days of your holiday up with things to do - give yourself some me time. x
ReplyDeleteI’m glad you’ve back my dear friend
DeleteWhen a show is so uninspiring, I leave. Sitting there just grates and adds to the general displeasure. If you suffered through to the end, you are to be commended.
ReplyDeleteI feel odd-distanced from myself rather a lot-always have-I have to concentrate on my belly button area(my core)which helps-call me strange x
ReplyDeleteNature/sun is your friend , get out and soak it in.
ReplyDeleteSorry the film was a disappointment. Shows my age and location, but my first thought when reading your title was your post was about John Wayne. Duh, me!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Weave about booking up all of your time off. Perhaps save a day to paint an area in the cottage that is waiting for new paint, too?
May tomorrow be a better day in every way.
Hugs!
Relax, you will feel more in tune in a couple of days. Symphony for us this afternoon, the last piece was long-long-long. Still it is nice to hear a live racket.
ReplyDeleteI noticed that Mark Kermode in "The Observer" only gave this film a three star review.
ReplyDeleteI feel odd today too. Perhaps it is the alignment of our stars. Perhaps it is the fact that we are living in an insane world.
ReplyDeleteI like your blog,I sincerely hope that your blog a rapid increase in

What a coincidence Ratty - I hope his blog is being updated too!
DeleteHope you feel better tomorrow, John. xx
ReplyDeleteI had thought the combo of Broadbent and Mirrin would have insured its 'watchability'.
ReplyDeleteThe film does sound disappointing. Maybe shows that even good actors can't always make things work. The previous one you saw was so different!
ReplyDeleteSounds like my kind of film.
ReplyDeleteWhat a shame I thought this looked good in the trailers, but perhaps it's one of those films where they show ALL the good bits in the trailer leaving the rest of the film for us to suffer. I might just wait for it to appear on television.
ReplyDeleteOh, that's a shame. I was looking forward to seeing it. I won't tell Jim when I see him. :)
