Ian Parry was a good friend of mine.
We grew up in Prestatyn
He took this photo of Rol and I ( yes the one from a few blogs ago) in the 1980s
A photo I have always treasured
He shared so much of my salad days in North Wales and I miss him still
Me and my sister Janet joking together
Me and my nia at the cinema
My grandmother laughing
Kelly Ann, a friends baby
Wow! Pictures of you clean shaven!
ReplyDeleteI was 23 or so x
DeleteWhat wonderful photos, one and all, and what a tragedy Ian Perry died at such a young age. Perhaps if you have another wall needing a photo, one or more of these you cherish could be enlarged and framed, or many photos put into a frame that holds multiple pictures? As long as friends remember Ian, he's not gone yet.
ReplyDeleteHugs!
I’ve always kept his photos babs,
DeleteI knew that photograph of you and Rol was something special, someone with a good eye. That's really sad his life was cut short. His photographs are great. X
ReplyDeleteThey were Rachel, even as youngsters we all knew his talent and was in awe of it
DeleteLoves it!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I like you clean shaven too.
XOXO
I was a lot younger lol
DeleteThe photo of you and Janet is just great. Fun, laughter, enjoyment in motion, captured as a still.
ReplyDeleteU
I always think looking through old favourite photographs brings on a feeling of nostalgia tinged with sadness.
ReplyDeleteSo young to die so tragically. Clearly he was a gifted photographer, judging from the private photos he took of you and friends. The Ian Parry Scholarship is a worthy cause to donate to.
ReplyDeleteSuch a moving post, John. Made me stop and think. xx
ReplyDeleteIP was a great photographer. The photos you post show his talent. It is extremely sad that his life was so tragically cut short.
ReplyDeleteI tried to donate, but the Gofundme was closed. It is a worthy cause. Photos tell true stories.
ReplyDeleteLovely photos, from a talented man. Those significant photos bring back such strong memories, don't they. That made me think of my most treasured old photos. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteWe rarely hear the stories behind the photographers. They are often extremely courageous; and, sadly, occasionally pay the price. Very sad.
ReplyDeleteIt's true, a picture can paint a thousand words. Such promise, cut short. So sad. xx
ReplyDeleteAmazing photos and such brave men and women to put themselves in such risky situations.
ReplyDeleteIan Parry-a very handsome man x
ReplyDeleteSome poignant photos. I read about Ian after seeing your previous blog post. His loss at a young age in '89 clearly affects you now. There seems to be some controversy over the aircrash given the momentous events taking place in Europe that year. Very sad and a tragic loss of a promising young journalist and your personal friend. I'm sure Ian would have approved of the scholarship in his name.
ReplyDeleteThere was a line in the video that struck me, "In a world inundated with fake news..." It's clear why photographs can be so important." It's also a reminder of the risk people take to tell the real story. No wonder you treasure that photograph.
ReplyDeleteGreat old pictures! I especially love the one of you and your sister. I can't watch the vid at the moment because I'm at work but I'll catch up with it at home.
ReplyDeleteOne is blessed to have a friend like that.
ReplyDeleteWhat a tragic loss. The photos you have are wonderful!
ReplyDeleteIan Parry was a wonderful photographer and inspiring to read about the legacy of a scholarship in his name.
ReplyDelete"the words he was a good friend of mine" are heart wrenching gone to soon, I think Ian would have been proud of you as well for the man you have become.
I really appreciate your professional approach. These are pieces of very useful information that will be of great use for me in future.
