I’m on the second course of antibiotics.
I was apparently resistant to the first.
I was hoping to feel brighter today but don’t , so after a dog walk. I went back to bed.
That was around 8.30 am
Just after 9am the phone went. It was the builder asking if he could give me a quote for the chimney to be relined.
He came round almost immediately, a gorgeous big bearded hunk of a guy
I didn’t have the energy to even think of flirting even if I had wanted to.
I may do when he comes to do the job
I went back to bed as soon as he had gone.
Before 10 am my mobile rang. This time it was the vets’ receptionist reminding me to pick up Mary’s meds so wearily I got dressed and drove the 26 mile round trip to Denbigh to pick them up.
When you live alone there’s no option of asking someone else to do all the mundane things.
On the way home I bought stewing steak and suet from a little shop in Trefnant
I haven’t eaten anything but toast in the last 24 hours and thought stew and dumplings would be comforting , given my headache, backache and the crappy weather.
I walked the dogs again, put the stew ingredients into the slow cooker and made the dumplings from scratch. Then my phone alerted again. It reminded me to go and do Trefor’s eye dressing.
That didn’t take long. The nonagenarian wanted to be off to the soup and roll lunch at the village hall.
By 3 pm, I curled up on the couch with the dogs feeling a bit sorry for myself
when there was a knock on the door
It was the velvet voiced Linda from Well Street with a tub of soup in hand
Just what the doctor ordered
Stew and dumplings
You poor love. I hope the stew and dumplings helps. A lovely gesture from Linda. Homemade soup, a well known cure-all. xx
ReplyDeleteI didn’t eat it all , the antibiotics have made me lose my spirits which is a rarity
DeleteHoping you will not be 'bothered' again - though I must say Linda made a soup I'd enjoy!
ReplyDelete. . . . .FYI, it's been years since I had the energy to flirt with a gorgeous big bearded hunk of a guy. So you are not alone in that regard!!!!!
Be well very soon dear John x
Lol he’s very straight too
DeleteMarried with kids
Oh, sorry to hear about your kidney infection. I hope you get better on the new antibiotics. It's a pain when all those little life necessities demand doing! I'm sure the animals are happy that Bonfire Night is past.
ReplyDeleteHeath is everything!
DeleteI’m understanding that mantra
Hallelujah for that 3 pm knock on the door. What a day! Hope you start to improve... and catch a break!
ReplyDeleteOff to bed shortly , I’m boring at feeling unwell
DeleteAt last -- the soup cavalry! -Kate
ReplyDeleteTally ho
DeleteYou live in such a caring village - that soup is just what the doctor ordered, If these antibiotics suit you better you should hopefully begin to pick up now. Hope the stew and dumplings is ready at tea time. Much love xx
ReplyDeleteI only managed a half portion , the dumplings were Devine
DeleteThe stew and dumplings look tasty. I hope you have a restful evening without any more interruptions! x
ReplyDeleteNo phone calls
DeleteI’m bored lol
I'd just popped to a neighbours late morning today to deliver pickle onions I had prepared(I've been doing this in the early hours as I don't sleep well)and 2 lumberjacks happened to be there with helmets, visors, all the ropes pallava and large powerful dangerous motor tools-I chatted small talk mentioning where I lived as usually I wave to them politely as you do when I'm in the car-both large men with beards x
ReplyDeleteSteady gal
DeleteYou are the living example of good karma. Your village friends will help you out as you have helped them in the past. The stew looks delicious. xx
ReplyDeleteA friendly face went a long way this afternoon
DeleteWishing you good health and an end to the miseries as you're fortified with such delicious and nutritious foods.
ReplyDeleteMay the new round of antibiotics and abundance of rest do the trick.
Hope the fee for the chimney repair is much less than last year's estimate, too.
Healing hugs!
I suspect it will be more , hey ho
DeleteLining someone's chimney sounds rather rude. How kind of Linda to bring you that soup.
ReplyDeleteI thought so too-one day a nice man called here shoved a big black rubber thingy right up my chimney-filled it with water and left it overnight-I was not really expecting that x
DeleteNo comment on either
DeleteIt was hanging down and several feet across the floor-I had to drag my top dog off as he was attacking it-think he thought it was a monster and if he had punctuated it the man would not have been happy x
DeleteLol
Deleteand here is just another thing that is wrong with america...do you know how hard it is to find food-grade suet here? all you can get is suet to feed the birds. there is one tiny place that i can buy it and i live in fear of it going out of business. i just can't make my mincemeat or plum puddings without it. i hope these antibiotics kick in soon and then you should feel much better.
ReplyDeleteThe shop I bought it at looked as though it had come out of the 1950s
DeleteIt's impossible to find "true" suet here in NZ, most NZ recipes advocate grating frozen butter into the mix. Works, sort of but I end up mopping up the grease with paper towels.

For a sick man who lives by himself, you were very busy:)
ReplyDeleteHope you're feeling better soon. Do you drink lots of water?
I drink litres
DeleteToday I could have done with more sleep
But it was nice to see a few faces
I see you tell Simone you're bored - a sure sign the antibiotics are working. x
ReplyDeleteI hope they are pat, I’m still feeling crap
Delete24 hours and the antibiotic should start working to make you feel better. The stew and dumplings sound delicious and soup from Linda is a very kind and generous gift. She's a good friend.
ReplyDeleteShe’s x
DeleteI am sorry to read that you have been under the weather. Hopefully the second round of antibiotics will help. I have been out of commission from blogging for a good while!
ReplyDeleteI know mick x I’m not good
DeleteEat, rest, get better
ReplyDeleteIt’s not easy
DeleteSorry you are still feeling awful. Hope you will feel better tomorrow. Get a good night's sleep! xx
ReplyDeleteI’m in bed now
DeleteIt’s been an odd night
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you're still sick. Take care.
ReplyDeleteI must have caught your kidney infection! I, too, am laid low.
ReplyDeleteI had an enlarged kidney when I was pregnant with my firstborn. The little blighter was breech and lying with his leg firmly over one of the ureters. The pain was such that I thought I was in labour, not know what to actually expect labour pain was going to be like. I ended up in hospital with a kidney infection. It was dire. I really hope the antibiotics are beginning to kick in and you feel better soon. I really sympathise.. the pain is awful.
ReplyDeleteThe stew looks divine!
