My Vietnamese Spring Rolls

The one thing most irritating thing about feeling unwell is that it’s boring
I’m on the third day of Pivmecillnam Antibiotic and although my urine is now a clear amber I still feel lethargic and not well and still have a backache.
I’ve done laundry, odd jobs and have moved things from one place in the cottage to another , which is a thing most of us do when we feel at a bit of a loss
The dogs have been walked, Trefor’s dressing completed and I’ve made tasty Vietnamese spring rolls with   Rice wrappers I found in my sushi drawer.
These non fried rolls I filled with vermicelli noodles, prawns and salmon, coriander and slivers of avocado ( I didn’t have lettuce ) the dipping sauce is a simple mixture of fish sauce, lime juice, garlic, chilli, a tiny bit of sugar and water
The 2014 memorial for the Honghkou Shanghai Jews

I then watched a documentary Harbor From The Holocaust which was a moving and fascinating account of how 18,000 German Jews survived the war in Japanese occupied Shanghai . This was followed by a gentle Argentinian gay film called Hawaii which was delightful as it had a happy ending.

I cleaned Mary’s ears with antibacterial fluid then cleaned Dorothy’s so she wouldn’t feel left out.
And I tackled a few of the eight or so magazines, which I treated myself to yesterday when I went shopping.
The magazine thing was a bit of a blast from the past when on impulse I bought copies of Private Eye, The New Yorker, Empire, Total Film, The National Geographic, Antiques & Home and Hello Magazine

I ve just made myself a decaf coffee and took some paracetamol
Chic Eleanor has just phoned, she and our friends Sara and Pask are coming here for dinner next Saturday
I’ve checked the clock as the light seems to have changed over the field and I’ve seen Pippa from the Rectory in her leopard print Fez walk past the cottage towards home

It’s only quarter past three

Heyho

  12. It always feels strange when we come off summer time and the dark hits so early. It feels like it's 7 p.m. here and it's only 5:30!

I am ashamed to say I never clean Olga's ears. She doesn't seem to suffer for it. Maybe I should be paying more attention to that.|

    Take care of those kidneys!

  14. I’ve lately had the need to move things from one place to another. You’re such a keen observer. Hope you’re beginning to come back to yourself.

  15. Magazines are a good choice when you are sick and may not feel like anything heavier. I'm sorry you are still feeling bad but I think kidney infections can hang on for a while as they are much worse than UTIs. I'm keeping you in my thoughts for a speedy recovery!

  16. I hope you don't mind me delving into your personal problems John but As you mentioned things-could there be a kidney stone?and or would acidophilus tablets/powder or yogurt help x

I love the New Yorker. If I could find it here I'd be buying it. A subscription is a bit out of my league

Are you a member of your local library? You might be able to get those magazines for free to read digitally. I know it’s not the same as an actual magazine but there can be a huge selection to choose from.
I know you can get them if you’re a member of Wrexham library and Flintshire is only just across the border

  20. So glad you are beginning to feel better.
I once worked aside a fellow from Vietnam.
He made the most wonderful spring rolls. Such a treat.
I'm better at cooking creole dishes and stews and I can make a most wonderful
    praline candy

  22. By sheer coincidence I just started reading the book "The Last Kings of Shanghai" - the story of two Jewish family dynasties in Shanghai and later Hong Kong. One of the things the intro refers to is how 18,000 Jews were saved by a Chinese diplomat stationed in Vienna and made their way to Shanghai.
    Get better soon.

  23. I hope you feel 100% very, very soon. I cleaned Franklin's ears last weekend but didn't bother about Penelope's because she never has dirt/wax in her ears.

    Love,
    Janie

  24. I have never cleaned dog's ears in my life. I felt fine yesterday, but still only managed to paint the portico, cook a meal or two, and watch some trash on TV. You always make me feel lazy.

  25. Time goes so slowly when trying to recover from a nasty infection. At least there is some improvement but it's obviously much worse than a UTI.
I like magazines as a treat too. Sometimes a book feels too heavy for how we are at the time. Your food looks delicious.

  26. Hope you're soon feeling much better, you've been prone to these infections for such a long time now ... and only on a blog post would we get away with talking about the colour of our urine ;-)

Doesn't time seem to be going strangely recently. The long nights really have drawn in and it seems to go from daylight to pitch black in the blink of an eye!
