Duds

Chic Eleanor had originally agreed to act as my fashion guru today but was unavailable for a trip to Liverpool so my friend Colin stepped into her expensive Italian Bruno Cucinelli sandals and gave me the benefit of his fashion advice.
Anyone who knows me well knows that I have an “eclectic” type  of fashion sense which is complicated somewhat by colourblindness and a limited budget but with Colin flexing his impressively sartorial gay muscles I was in safe hands.
I did make things a little difficult when I bought a jacket before I met Colin.
It’s wool and nicely heavy, but he pursed his lips just a little and said with a bit of exasperation  “hummmm  I see we are going for an obvious country theme here”
We entered John Lewis skipping.
The salesman had an interesting take on formal ware shopping. Because of covid he said suits and jackets just haven’t been selling until a few weeks ago when everyone either needed a new outfit for work, to replace ones not fitting because of lockdown weight gain or needed to purchase wedding outfits , weddings open to more than a handful of guests.
The shelves were pretty empty .
Having said this almost two hours later, Colin had picked out two pairs of trousers, two dress shirts, a belt, a pair of shoes and a trendy tie.
I was exhausted but satisfied we had made the right decisions so we had chips and curry for a late lunch in way of celebration .
I even bought a handkerchief for my top pocket
Hey ho

  11. Those togs look very stylish. I love the flecks in your jacket and the tie is absolutely perfect. You’ve even splashed out on new shoes., (Do wear them in the house a few times so you know they’re comfortable won’t you.)

You’re going to have a great time and feel a new (very trim) man ! Over here lots of weddings have only the bridal party in formal suits - some not even them, so I’m sure your choice is great.

    Enjoy the day.

  15. Really handsome! Nice dark fabrics, gorgeous tie! Are those new shoes peeking out. If not pls wear good shoes [and nice glasses] and polish the shoes.

I have a friend who only wears bespoke suits and shirts, and his comments, as to why wear a suit? is that you always look good, put together, and it is less effort in the long run. However I think an outfit like yours is beautiful and perfect, since you do not wear a suit every day and a tuxedo every night as he does.

But you are a better man than he as you have integrity, kindness, a big heart, a great sense of humor, talents as a potter and cook, and you're a nurse, a writer, a spokesperson, and the Alpha Male in your household. Now you're a fashion maven, too.
Hold your head high, my friend.

  24. You've made excellent wardrobe choices. These choices work well for lots of occasions and will serve you very well. A meet up with friends at a high end London hotel bar would be great. Even high tea in the city (where dress code applies) sounds lovely too.

  40. Is it coincidence that when I tried to buy something at John Lewis a couple of weeks ago the shelves were bare then too? I wonder if this has to do with whatever supply chain and transportation issues we're dealing with.

    1. I shouldn't say the shelves were bare -- that's an overstatement -- they just didn't have many pillows in stock, which is what I wanted.

  44. Well done love the tie and brown shoes much nicer than black can't go wrong with two choices of trousers and shirts will see you through many occasions mix and match much nicer than a stuffy suit.
