I’m back on nights tonight.
And so I wanted to plan something interesting to do today.
Weigh in , takes 2 minutes ( I’ve lost over 32 lbs!!!!!)
Pony sniffing only lasts for ten minutes or so.
Dog walking another hour.
And I’ve finished a couple of chapters of Miriam Margolyes’ autobiography This Much Is True lying in bed with a bulldog chipping away at my last remaining kneecap psoriasis scab
I contemplated watching the new James Bond but the tickets are selling so fast I didn’t fancy dealing with a full cinema.
And so I decided to tick another small wish off my bucket list
I made sushi from scratch.
I chose to make two types of Chumaki sushi rolls
Ones filled with salmon, wasabi and garlic and the others filled with strips of avocado dipped in lemon, cream cheese and onion.
Preparing the ingredients was therapy in itself.
Cutting the avocado and salmon into strips , washing the rice free of excess starch it all slows you down quite nicely
And the results, rather surprisingly were rather pleasing
32 pounds?! We will have to find a new term of endearment for you.
ReplyDeleteIf it were not for your previous post I would have had my suspicions about 'pony sniffing'.
DeleteLol I’d love you know what you call me when I was fatter..
DeleteI’m still tubby and need to lose at least another two stone if not three
Have you ever sniffed a pony?
DeleteWhich end?
DeleteLol
DeleteLooks tasty
ReplyDeleteIt bloody IS
DeleteLooks tasty, cooking relaxes me. Let us know how the book is? Worth reading?
ReplyDeleteYes, she’s a complicated woman , which will not surprise u
DeleteThat sushi looks really good. I somehow didn't know you were a great cook.
ReplyDeleteI need some diet advice from you John. 32 pounds is a major accomplishment!
I now eat just twice a day Jennifer
DeleteBread only at breakfast with eggs
Tea time is usually a stir fry with chicken or seafood
Limited dairy as in milk
I have another 2 stone at least to shift as most of my 59 year old fat is located around my abdomen
The only diet advice anyone needs is "Eat Less". The array of different books converting those two words into sixty thousand amazes me.
DeleteThat’s exactly what I have done …eat less
DeleteWow, you domestic goddess you.
ReplyDeleteI’m enjoying cooking Japanese food. I would love to go on a course
DeleteCongrats om 32 pounds. You're going to need a new wardrobe, new Walking Dead tees.
ReplyDeleteLol I’ve got a long way to go yet
DeleteLose 32 pounds in a month. Go on the John Gray Pony Sniffing Diet. Send £50 for details.
ReplyDeleteNow THATS an idea
DeleteYou could train yourself as a geisha John and perform the rituals-then you may perhaps invite gentlemen round to enjoy the art x
ReplyDeleteMy feet are too big
DeleteOoo-Big feet=Big !!!-well so I've heard x
DeleteMave! Please control your friend
DeleteWell done for sticking to the diet - 32lbs! No mean feat. You really know how to look after body and soul. xx
ReplyDeleteSome would say different
DeleteWell, they'd be wrong. You nourish your body and soul, most of the time. After all, we're all human and the odd lapse (I'm thinking Scotch eggs/ full English here. Wot! No Welsh cakes or Irish stew to cover the whole of the UK?) is acceptable! xx
DeleteYes, the problem with overly sticky diets , are that when you finally lapse , you lapse totally..
DeleteNow little treats need to be balanced.
Congrats on losing 32 lbs. I want to loose two pounds still and it is killing me (I don't have as much to loose). The sushi looks professional.
ReplyDeleteI have a load to lose xx 3 stone to go
DeleteThree stone is 42 more pounds!? We won't recognize you. Very inspiring, impressive.
Deletexx
Sushi is an art and it looks like you’ve mastered it. I’ve been meaning to buy This Much Is True.
ReplyDeleteThe rolls look ok but I need to practice a lot to make them look dapper…I’ve just ordered a sushi making set
DeleteI read a bit of eBook today, a murder spy novel set in England and Germany during the Cold War years. I then went back to more interesting tablet to see was Bruno was doing to Sven and a drainage expert clearing an overflowing sewerage pipe full of... Such is lockdown life.
ReplyDeleteBoth things very non fiction lol
Delete32 pounds is an accomplishment! Congratulations. And the sushi looks superb...did you ever think that anyone in the UK, home of boiled beef and chip butties, would be making such at home? That would have been unthinkable in my youth. You and the world have come a long way.
ReplyDeleteYes, the world sometimes seems a very small place now
DeleteYour weight loss is impressive. You must feel great. The sushi looks good and is very nicely displayed. A Japanese cooking course would be fun. There's probably lots of techniques to be learned.
ReplyDeleteI feel better but need not to lose the impetus I have started
DeleteAnd I thought I was good making a panini, cranberry sauce and smoky crisp bacon roll for my lunch (it was good). That sushi looks yummy - very civilised.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the weight loss.
I can wait to make more pat, I enjoyed the preparation which reminded me of baking
DeleteWell done on the weight loss and your bold and tasty adventures in sushi making! That meal looks professional even before the sushi making kit arrives.
ReplyDeleteI've taken care to lose weight very slowly as I don't want to look like The Saggy Baggy Elephant (children's book title).
Will you take Marian to work with you to enjoy in the quiet hours (I can hope!).
Hugs!
I won’t take her, I’ve got lots of written work to do inbetween buzzers and meds
DeleteThey look very neat and dainty. When I tried to make them they came out the size of Swiss rolls, too big to even bite!
ReplyDeleteI’ve just ordered a very shape knife
DeleteAnd a wooden bowl for mixing the rice
ReplyDeletei don't like sushi, but I love the way it all looks - the colours, the precision and presentation, the ritual. Yours look great x
Having researched it a little fillings like the cheese made a different taste
DeleteCongrats on the weight loss. Well done.
ReplyDeleteI NEED to try my hand at making sushi. I've been too chicken to tr, thus far.

It’s fiddly but very satisfying
DeleteSmall tip
Have a very sharp knife ready
Congratulations on the food art..and weight loss x
ReplyDeleteI feel physically better
DeleteNo cough
No more fainting at work
Your sushi turned out well, though I must admit my first thought was "WHY?" (I am not a cook so making sushi sounds more like a chore to me than a pleasure.)
ReplyDeleteThey are very tasty and well worth the faff
DeleteLooks like you're a sushi master now!
ReplyDeleteI’m going to make more Debra x
DeleteYour sushi look wonderful.
ReplyDeleteYour skill set keeps expanding while your waistline decreases. Good on ya!
ReplyDeleteWell done on the weight loss.
ReplyDeleteMaking sushi yourself is VERY impressive. As is your weight loss. Good for you!
ReplyDeleteWe knew a Teacher who gave it all up to become a Sushi maker. At the time we thought his decision very odd, but he did very well and his company flourished!
