The Ponies

At least once a day I go and visit the ponies
I go nose to nose with each one in turn, and blow gently.
They always respond the same way
They inhale and watch with calm brown eyes.

How nurturing for you and the ponies. Bliss on the hoof!
I certainly had to look twice at that first photo.

    Hugs!

  3. The ponies are lovely social animals and enjoy visiting as much as you do. They look very happy and well cared for. I'd want to build a barn and keep them forever.

  4. I miss my horse's mushroom-soft nose.

I think with 4 ponies in the field, they will soon make short work of the grass!

  9. I miss that about equine friends. The breath exchange. Are these the iconic Welsh ponies, John? Such wonderful creatures. How nice to have that moment most every day.

    1. They do because you can’t move quickly with them if you want them close, with them not really knowing me , I have to move in slow motion….that’s relaxing in itself

  18. They trust you if they let you get that close. Exchanging breath is one of the ways they find out about each other. The soft velvety muzzle and kind eye … how I miss my childhood pony.

    1. My sister had a pony when we were around 11 to 18 or so
Her name was Rona and she was an old brood mare with a gentle heart
I never rode well, but I liked her and her nature , her nose and her smell

Yes she was lovely ..dad bought her when i was 12 ..we were the same age...she was 24 when i lost her..she knew if you couldnt ride well and was careful with you...but if you could ride she would sometimes bolt for home or swerve though the older she got the quieter she became ..her mane and tail had been chewed when we bought her ...having lost her last foal to rickets she mothered all the other foals..it never really grew back properly...i still miss her smell and her velvety nose too and her whicker!

  21. I bet they love having someone communicate with them that way. Franklin sometimes likes to put his nose on my nose to sniff me. I sniff back. It seems to make him happy, and I love it.

  23. I was once in deep distress and grief and walked out into a pasture to be away from people. A small herd of horses came and surrounded me; they comforted me on purpose! That happened once before too. Amazing, feeling, kind creatures. -Kate
