Holiday day two today.
I’m off to Mostyn Art Gallery tomorrow afternoon then I’m catching up with an old friend for dinner. I want to plan “holiday” things after today.
Today was another “ jobs catch up day”
Mandy & Sailor John from next door gave me an old bookcase a while ago .
It was a utilitarian, ugly piece that sucked the life out of my office/ spare bedroom
Yesterday, I sanded it down and painted it a cheerful gentle yellow with the paint leftover from the living room.
A bit rustic but certainly an improvement
I’ve gone all DIY
Looks good - room for another plant on top :)
ReplyDeleteDefinitely an improvement, looks good 👍
ReplyDeleteIt couldn’t look worse lol
DeleteOh that is nice..I usually prefer natural wood, but I like that.
ReplyDeleteEnvy envy...I loved visiting Oriel Mostyn...enjoy!!
It’s a peaceful place ….
DeleteI love it.
ReplyDelete🤩
DeleteYou are Very handy with tools John-I do like a man with tools x
ReplyDeleteMave , !!! She’s at it again
DeleteChoosing the correct knobs will make that piece perfect. I'll bet flis would enjoy picking the perfect knob.
DeleteYes Debby-I'm always on the lookout because as I have got older I do need a more substantial knob to get a better grip x
DeleteLovely...what an improvement! Mrs L is right...a plant trailing down the side would look very good.
ReplyDeleteI’ll buy one tomorrow
DeleteExcellent :)
DeleteLove it!
ReplyDeleteKJ
Oh yes, it looks MUCH better now!
ReplyDeleteLooks good! Love those glass doors!
ReplyDeleteYou'd have to pay £££'s for that in an upmarket shop. The boy done good! xx
ReplyDeleteI've just had a peep inside John and would you believe it but sitting alongside me is possibly the double of your terrier in your bookcase-I bought mine from Dorchester Market one sunny day-I think he's 1920s-quite large, has a wobbly bottom but much loved x
ReplyDeleteThey are collectors items
DeleteWonderful face lift for the bookcase you were given! I just love bookcases and think all homes should have one or more. We have more than one.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy tomorrow's plans! How many more days do you have in this holiday? If you've said, I overlooked that information somehow.
Hugs!
Oh, and methinks your iron should be out of sight behind the solid doors below. You're likely to have something much prettier to put on the top shelf in place of the iron. There is my 2 cents!
DeleteMore hugs!
The bottom cupboards have all my files in x
DeleteThat lick of paint has done wonders :)
ReplyDeleteYour cabinet has been fully transformed from ugly and old to updated and really lovely. Great job!
ReplyDeleteThe bookcase is beautiful! Nice job. That cottage has become a showplace. You’re inspiring me to go into the city and visit the museums. Thanks for that. I need a push.
ReplyDeleteBeing lonely at times is a great motivator
DeleteYou have to make an effort
Looks fab.
ReplyDeleteX
DeleteLooks great, an off place to store the iron.
ReplyDeleteThe iron is getting mucho reviews lol
DeleteYou definitely have a real knack with colour John.
ReplyDeleteLol weave , it was the only paint I had x
DeleteJob well done...and the honey butter color is perfect.
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful. Difficult to do, so neatly, with the wood on the glass.
ReplyDeleteThat's a beautiful piece of furniture. I love storage with glass doors. The color is cheerful!
ReplyDeleteYou dressed up that bookcase perfectly!
ReplyDeleteLiking your color . . . and the cheer!
Definitely an improvement.
ReplyDeleteThat looks good; waste not, want not.
ReplyDeleteLooks good, and very useful. I love that shade of yellow. It's a calm colour, not like some yellows!
ReplyDeleteThat's an elegant piece, and looks lovely in that pale yellow. It will serve you well for many years, and be a worthwhile piece for whoever inherits it next. I love glass fronted cabinets twice over because they save the dusting.
ReplyDeleteThat looks so sweet!
ReplyDeleteGood DIY effort!
ReplyDeleteThat's so bright and cheerful. Love it.
ReplyDeleteThat's a considerable improvement. Some things HAVE to be painted. I had to leave the Escape to the Chateau DIY group as I couldn't bear to see people with more money than sense buying really good antique pieces just to PAINT and ruin.
ReplyDeleteI love light coloured wood but dark wood can be quite ugly. It is a lovely transformation and fits in perfectly.
ReplyDeleteOh wow! You have done a grand job of that bookcase John. Well done!
ReplyDeleteExcellent work and a good choice of colour. I love how it blends in with the wall so that the bookcase doesn't dominate the room but remains useful.
ReplyDeleteLooks so much better in a pale yellow covering then the harsh brown wood tone! Well done, John!!!
ReplyDeleteJohn....Fantastic! Good for you! Cheerful...clean...like new. Hugs from the base of the mini-mountain in Maine. Stay well.
ReplyDeleteIt suits your cottage and style to a tee John.
ReplyDeleteLooks much better. Good job. It's always so satisfying to finish a project.
ReplyDeleteI'm not normally in favor of painting wood. At least not woods like walnut, cherry, oak, mahogany, etc. but you made a good call on this piece. I do agree with Barbara Anne about the iron. If no room in the bottom section, at least move it to the bottom shelf and put something prettier in its place? Or find a basket or tin to put it in?
ReplyDeleteIt wasn’t a good wood , I feel the same
DeleteIron moved
DeleteYou made it look very nice by painting it to match in your room. I like that it has glass doors on it, too.
ReplyDeleteI am curious what wood you think it was made of. It looks like a dark wood of some type, but maybe that is just a previous stain color.
Some of it was cheap veneer
DeleteLovely transformation John!!!
