The village from the West
The temperature gauge says 22 and sunny but it feels hotter than that. Dorothy couldn’t take a long walk so we took advantage of there being no sheep in Graham’s fields and the girls ran around for just five minutes before wanting to go home to lay their nipples on cold concrete,
Albert joined us as per, but he too found the sun too fierce and so retired under a giant Beech tree like a lion.
We left him watching a couple of foolish rabbit pups with narrow eyes.
He’s still bad tempered .
It’s Sunday morning and the shooting range over in Trelogan is in fine form. The putt, putts of the shotguns echoing around the valley hills like fireworks at New Year.
I’ve heard a cuckoo, just once which is rare
There is a heat haze over the village and it feels deserted , like a Spanish village at noon
Thank goodness the elderflower cordial I prepared three days ago is ready to drink.
I had dear friends yesterday - as they drove through Leyburn it was 29 degrees

DeleteStay cool, join the dogs on the floor if needed. I went for a walk with the camera yesterday afternoon, the air was body temperature when I finished. I need to get out earlier today.

DeleteI'm like a limp lettuce-went out for a couple of hours but mainly wandering-chatted to doggy people and lots of dogs then sat in the stream with the hairy ones under the oaks-teddy was wearing his cooling coat-no cyclists up my arse today which I should be pleased about but I was still on my guard x

DeleteMy neighbour's 3 black cats like to doze in the long grass at the end of my garden when it's hot. Lucky you hearing a cuckoo. I haven't heard one for decades. A cool elderflower cordial sounds perfect! xx

DeleteWhen it's this hot, and it is hot, my dogs only go out for their nature calls. If I let them out for too long, they will melt into the veranda.

DeleteGranddaughters chug was sulking yesterday but as it was still 26 degrees at six in the evening he had to wait. She got up at seven to walk him this morning.
ReplyDeleteThe heat is oppressive. We've had a week of high heat, humidity and rain (80-90 degrees). The gardens and grass love it. People and pets, not so much. Fall will be welcomed.

Deletewelcome to my world. it has been near 30 and humid as hell a LOT this summer. Our neighbour has a shooting setup at his farm. when we were away at our cabin my housesitting daughter sent me a message telling me our neighbours were nuts, setting off fireworks in the middle of the afternoon. hahahar

DeleteMy cat is asleep in long grass, out of the sun. It is 43 degrees (109F) in the sun-trap just outside our back door. We are doing nothing, gently!

DeleteIt went up to 46 (115), going down now, but there are parts of the back of the house where it has seemed hard to breathe! We've got this for at least another 3 days, then thunder to look forward to!

ReplyDeleteIt's been in the low 90s*F (32*C?) for the last week here with high humidity so the air was hot and thick. Happily, and most oddly for Virginia in July, the coming 10 days should see highs in the 80s*F (28*C?) and that will be welcome.
I've always wanted to try elderflower cordial. Enjoy!

ReplyDeleteI'm cat sitting Nala for my neighbor again - she is on the cool bathroom tile floor even though the a/c is pumping overtime - it's 93F and so humid outside!

It's still 29 degrees here, and like a ghost town outside. Not complaining, we are far luckier than the places where they have had floods and fires. A glass of home made cordial would go down a treat!

ReplyDeleteIt was about 30 C here yesterday. Mowing, swimming, mowing, swimming; not much else to do.
ReplyDeleteMy flat is littered with four flopped-out pussy cats, as it has been for three or four successive days . On a downbeat note, this weather is okay for once in a while but I fear will rapidly become the norm for our Summers, and maybe outside the season too, which will by then be too oppressive to 'enjoy'. Oh dear. Better now try to find something to cheer me up. :-)
