I’m going to London again on Friday.
I will be returning on Monday.
Originally the weekend was more or less sorted.
Friday was geek day with my nephew Leo, ( we had obtained tickets for comic con for an exhausting 8 hours looking at super heroes and zombie killers ) and Saturday night was booked Nuala’s post covid friends from far-from_away…get together.
Sunday I’m planning to meet a friend Alex for art house cinema and soho drinks…so the bare bones planned seemed an electric mixture which I could dovetail with some niche London on-my-own things.
Covid has meant Geek day is cancelled until November ( my nephew was incredibly sanguine about it all) and Nu’s party has been cancelled due to track and trace.
Undaunted I’m filling in the gaps
So people give me some ideas…fucking hell I'm still going
I have pockets of Friday, Sat and Sunday to fill…..Friday night I’m going to see The musical Come From Away again and Saturday night will still be “Nuala” time but apart from a few hours on Sunday afternoon with Alex , I have lots of time to do interesting things….so what do you suggest?
I’m working all day. tomorrow , so will have only tomorrow night to sort out my ( your) ideas
What fun….
Can’t wait …..
What do you recommend ?

Oh, how I wish I could have a weekend in London! I'd go to the British Museum and say hello to the Lewis chess pieces. I love them. I'd move on to the National portrait gallery and see their new work, and enjoy my old favourites, then I'd spend the rest of the day at the V&A, wandering. Of course there would be lots of stops for coffee - there's a lovely place down in the bottom floor of the Portrait Gallery, and I treat myself to the wonderful Arts and Crafts decorated cafe in the V&A. Oh ... Oh ... that's made me seriously yearn for a trip, and it may never happen again. Whatever you do, enjoy yourself.
ReplyDeleteTake your pink Speedos and googles and go for a swim in The Serpentine. Failing that, you could visit Tate Britain though I believe you will need to book in advance. Visit their website at https://www.tate.org.uk/visit/tate-britain
ReplyDeleteSir John Soans museum. The most amazing building and contents in London.
ReplyDeleteI long to see London again! If it were me, I would go to Liberty's and buy some fabric. Then I'd get a sandwich from M&S and eat it sitting on a deckchair in Regents Park.
ReplyDeleteHow about the Chelse Physic Garden, maybe you could meet a cerebral sweetie and learn something about the Olde Ways of treatment. I hope to get there at the end of this year or early next year as my daughter and here sweetie live in Edinburg and are getting married!
ReplyDeleteThere is another garden in Alnwick that is the Poison Garden.
How about street walking with that shirt on.
ReplyDeleteThe British Museum. Covent Garden. Bookstores.
ReplyDeleteThe Tate (the old one). You could spend 20 minutes admiring Stanley Spencer's self portrait. It could be the best 20 minutes of your life!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear Comic Con has been canceled. Maybe another time. I don't know London but I would think, as others have said, there would be many wonderful museums and that would get you out of the heat as well. Whatever you do have fun!
ReplyDeleteDennis Severs House … two minutes walk from Liverpool Street station. …. And, I second Sir John Soanes museum. Charles Dickens house is good too ( near Russell Square. ) Have a great weekend. Think lots have to be booked. XXXX
ReplyDeleteI'm certain you want to shop for women's clothes at the chicest shops and mail them to me in the U.S. tee-hee
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
If you like neon art you could try God's Own Junkyard - bit eclectic. x
ReplyDeleteDon't know London really so not sure where will be close to you. Another vote here for the Serpentine Lido, and maybe "Epic Iran" at the V&A. Also one of the markets for a snack and a wander such as Borough Market, Berwick Street in Soho or Brick Lane Market.
ReplyDeleteAlso my favourite place is the Natural History Museum
I went to the Alice in Wonderland exhibition at the V&A with my son and his boyfriend on Sunday.
ReplyDeleteWe found this fab place for brunch.
https://www.bromptonfoodmarket.com/
It has a secret garden out the back.
Enjoy whatever you do.
Ooo yes-that looks very interesting x
DeleteThe last time I went to London was 20 years ago, with my husband...we were glad to get away and back to the Shropshire Hills.
ReplyDeleteAn evening with Nu to yourself will possibly be more fun than seeing a little of her at a party! x
Whatever you wind up doing to fill your time in London, it will be good to be out and about, living life again.
ReplyDeleteA blog I follow Ganching has a post about a new exhibit at the Tate https://www.tate.org.uk/whats-on/tate-modern/exhibition/sophie-taeuber-arp
ReplyDeleteI'd like to go- but unable to travel at the moment. I'm passing it on to you as an idea. I love London, and am happy to people watch and just to feel part of the city for some brief time.
I've been to London twice in my life, as a tourist, so I am afraid I cannot give any good advice about the good things to do in London. I LOVE the t-shirt!
ReplyDeleteLol I’ve gone gay x
Deletered, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet. I think your rainbow is missing blue. Have a great trip.
ReplyDeleteCount the gays at the Portrait museum.
ReplyDeletePaintings of, live ones, or both?
DeleteCovent Garden. Market, shops, cafe and restaurants galore
ReplyDeleteTrip on river
ReplyDeleteJust wander, look, ponder...
ReplyDeleteI think I will
DeleteOr you could go mad and arrange a date online (but I don't think you will). Ach, go to Battersea dogs home and rescue a puppy (unlikely, but more likely than a date).
DeleteCamden Market….wacky, good food, great people watching opportunities, interesting views along the Thames, shopping….. I always have fun visiting there!
ReplyDeleteThat just what I was going to say Laurel,Camden Market!...or even Camden Passage market in Islington..Angel tube stop. Its not huge but its got lots of interesting stalls and shops to browse around.xx
DeleteChurchill's Bunker and Florence Nightingale museum!
ReplyDeleteClerkenwell is good for a wander - google self-guided walks, like this one: https://www.london-walking-tours.co.uk/free-tours/clerkenwell-walk.htm and do a tour. Exmouth Market is good for restaurants. I've been to the gay Retro Bar off the Strand a few times with a group of gay & straight mates and had a great time and it's just opened up again. Second the recommendation about John Soane Museum, well worth a visit.
ReplyDeleteSorry a bit late with my suggestion, but may I suggest The Garden Museum, they have a fab Constance Spry exhibition on.
ReplyDeleteJean.x
The Wellcome collection.
