Thank the lord I’d arranged to meet up with Chic Eleanor for an afternoon at the Theatre. This time we went to see the bleak comedy play For The Grace Of You Go I by Alan Harris.
It was a powerful and rather interesting piece which explored how Jim, a man with profound mental health issues, copes with his production line job and life by viewing things through the eyes of a film director, inspired by the weekly film club he attends.
I loved the fact that in an audience of say just 20 people Eleanor had the total lack of self consciousness to be able to give the actors a standing ovation .
“ Darling Please tell the actors they were absolutely wonderful “ she told an usher as we left
The usher promised he would , and beamed from under his mask
She really is a very chic and gracious lady. No wonder you enjoy her company and friendship. xx
ReplyDeleteI would never have guessed who your companion was from behind her mask!
ReplyDeleteWith your background in mental health nursing, I guess that this production had a special resonance for you.
ReplyDeleteWith our mutual Sam's experience we lived it
DeleteSounds like Chic Eleanor speaks her truth from the heart!
ReplyDeleteShe does indeed x
DeleteYou look great friends John-I wondered if Chic Eleanor's dog is nicely mannered little one x
ReplyDeleteNo.its a bouncy lab
DeleteWhat a wonderful afternoon and you couldn't have been in better company. How kind of Chic Eleanor to ask the usher to pass along her message to the actors.
ReplyDeleteThe play's title reminds me of the last line of 'Kathy's Song', by Simon and Garfunkel:
"And as I watch the drops of rain
Weave their weary paths and die
I know that I am like the rain
There but for the grace of you go I"
Hugs!
I suspect that's where the quote was taken x
DeleteSounds delightful. Glad she was generous with praise, it costs so little and is valued so much.
ReplyDeleteIt means a lot for actors to be appreciated. My mother kept all her appreciation letters.
ReplyDeleteChic Eleanor is lovely, showing her appreciation that way, and she is a lovely friend for you.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
I love it when people are so happy in their own skin that they can share true emotions with others without even a thought of embarrassment, Chic Eleanor sounds like the perfect friend for you. Between her and Nu you have two amazing women friends, no doubt there are more but these two must hold a special place in your heart
ReplyDeleteI'd like to see that play. I don't dare compare the profundity of the mental health issues, but I do know all about coping on a production line by pretending to be someone else.
ReplyDeleteThe set alone looks fascinating.
ReplyDeleteWell done Eleanor, giving credit where credit is due!
ReplyDeleteIs Oriel Theatr Clwyd still going? I was one of the first three staff there
What a friend . . . Chic Eleanor . . .
ReplyDelete“Gift” for each other . ..
Liking her self confidence as well . . .
As a former actor in many many small productions I appreciate how great Eleanor made those folks feel. I have never played to a house of 20 but guarantee actors give their all regardless of the house size.
ReplyDeleteGood on Eleanor!
Sounds like an interesting play, and good for Chic Eleanor for being so enthusiastic and positive!
