I received two gifts today
The first is an absolutely beautiful crocheted blanket which consists of small intricate waves of blues and greens and purples and yellows.
The second is a hastily painted piece of art in a deep blue, which features what could be swirls of clouds over a forest of blue trees.
I absolutely adore both as both were made with affection, a certain skill and a great deal of personal time.
Perfect gifts.
Thoughtful and meaningful
The blanket was crafted by my friend Ruth over many months, and it shrieks .....class
The painting was a result of a joint paint-a-long-on-zoom with a lifelong friend Nia who lives in Australia
A much needed , fun morning in the middle of lockdown.
Loved them.
Gifts with meaning, not just a promise of something nice ,where words mean really nothing
My nephew texted me the other month and asked me what I would like for my birthday
I told him I would love an up to date photo of him and his dog which I could frame
Is that all? he asked, his Asperger’s finding some difficulty with my request
“ It’s because I haven’t seen you for a few years “ I explained and he replied with a short “Arr ok!”
Moments later came another message
“ Are you sure you don’t want a dvd? “ he asked
My wife's birthday today. I gave her a small bracelet. We plan to stay home and order something to eat. I wanted to do more but sometimes a relaxing evening at home watching a good movie on TV is nice.
ReplyDeleteLovely
DeleteThey are beautiful gifts aren't they John-different but strangely similar if you know what I mean x
DeleteThat’s what I wanted to explain
DeleteThe intention
I have made that blanket too, for my daughter. It was designed by Lucy at Attic 24, and was inspired by the Yorkshire moorland. I love the colours in it. The painting reminds me of Van Gogh's Starry Night. Lovely. You'll enjoy both because they were made with love, just for you. xx
ReplyDeleteNow you have really made my day..a Yorkshire moorland
DeleteHow very Sheffield xxx
I was just thinking that this was an Attic24 design. :) It's so beautiful! What a thoughtful gift.
DeleteI’m so happy with it, it’s rather Art Deco I think
DeleteI've made it too, recognised it straight away! A wonderful blanket, fabulous colours.
DeleteTwo beautiful gifts that really compliment each other. They will fit into your cottage so well.
ReplyDeleteThey already have done x
DeleteIsn't a dvd a sexually transmitted disease? Nobody would want that for their birthday... would they?
ReplyDeleteOh lord
DeleteIt's lovely to receive lovingly made home-made gifts, and yes, sometimes words may be empty...but they can conversely be remembered many years later, with just as much meaning as physical things. Perhaps I just got the wrong end of the stick of what you were saying...
ReplyDeleteWords are cheap,
DeleteActions mean so much more charlotte ..
I’ve learned that
One Birthday over 30 years ago, all I got on my Birthday was a lovely hug from another Mum at Playgroup...it really made my day and is never forgotten.
DeleteIt is so much easier to grab something off a shelf in WalMart.
ReplyDeleteWhat great and thoughtful gifts! I love the colors in both.
ReplyDeleteTwo wonderful, hand-crafted gifts made with you in mind to warm your heart and soul and the afghan will warm you chin to toes, too!
ReplyDeleteHope your nephew is happy to pose with his dog for the photo you want ... and perhaps you could suggest a DVD to him that you'd like as a gift.
Hugs!
Did you enjoy your eggs? X
ReplyDeleteBoth gifts are beautiful and thoughtful. Your nephew wants to please you and this is very, very sweet. Heartwarming.
ReplyDeleteBoth are beautiful gifts of time, skill and love. The best kind of gifts! Happy Birthday John! xxx
ReplyDeleteLucky you. I love that blanket; Yorkshire inspired I see. Nice that it has a link to an area.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful gifts, made with love and given with more love. Happy, happy birthday John. Ro xx
ReplyDeleteBeautiful gifts and so meaningful.
ReplyDeleteThe gifts are beautiful. That's one of my favorite combinations of colors in the blanket. But are you SURE you don't want a DVD?
ReplyDeleteNothing satisfies the heart of the crafter than the grateful heart and praise of the recipient. I hope your birthday was wonderful. My grandson became a teenager today. It happened so fast.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful gifts made with so much love. That painting does have a flavour of Starry Nights.
ReplyDeleteGifts made or chosen with care are so special. The Covid times have made such things even more so.
ReplyDeleteYour nephew's response was great!
Both are beautiful. Lucky you. xx
ReplyDeleteWhat resolution of photo of me do you want to be able to print and frame for your birthday? I was going to send you a massive and expensive box set of Zombie DVDs and continental subtitled romcoms, plus a voucher for a year's supply of daily haggis scotch eggs and a crate of Scottish heather gin, but I now realise that would be a cop-out and that a digital image of my face for framing would mean so much more...
ReplyDelete"It is the thought that counts!" as someone once said. Sounds like your birthday celebration is being spread out over the whole week or so! How nice for you!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful gifts.
ReplyDeleteYour nephew reminds me of my offspring!
Love the blanket, and there's a great backstory behind the painting. Does anyone buy DVDs anymore?! I thought we were all streaming nowadays.
ReplyDeleteThe blanket is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteNice. Beautiful Blanket and lovely painting. Your Nephew is so adorable. You are loved.
ReplyDeletecheers
