It’s a soup day, butter bean and chicken with paprika .
After three consecutive twelve hour shifts, I had a lie in with a book this morning, then walked the dogs, shopped and photographed the churchyard snowdrops before the cold ushered me back to the cottage in order to light the fire.
Definitely a fireside soup day! I was sure it was cold enough for the ground to be frozen on a beautiful, but often very muddy local walk...amazingly, not... Is there room to build a porch with loo and dog shower on the side of my house?!

DeleteA dog shower. Now there's a good idea. It might almost persuade me to get a dog. I love dogs but I hate their mess. Now a simple shower with heater that could be connected to an outside hose... have I just invented something that would sell? I bet they exist already.

DeleteIngredients:
1 tbsp olive or rapeseed oil
1 small onion
2-3 garlic cloves chopped
1 chilli
1 tin chopped tomatoes
1 tin cannellini beans
1 pint veg stock
1 tsp mixed herbs
1/2 tbsp marmite
Handful of spinach.
Method:
Heat oil and saute onion, garlic and chilli until onion translucent.
Add tomatoes, beans, stock, herbs and marmite.
Bring to boil and simmer covered for 10 minutes.
Add spinach and cook for a further 5 minutes.
Serve with a grated cheese - Parmesan or Grana Padano (optional)
Tasty!

DeleteYes, but you can just add a teaspoon if you want (or none at all). You can't taste any marmite in the soup, it merely adds to the depth and savouriness of the stock. Hope that helps!

Around here, if a gravestone leaned even half as badly as that, they would kick it to the ground as a safety hazard. It has completely changed the appearance of a lot of churchyards.
